  1. Earlier this year when our 3G was bad in Toledo there was one tower broadcasting 1x800. I was able to get usable signal 10 miles away from the tower. The tower was active for about a week and then I have not connected to it again since (even forcing 1x800 checking).

    @stuckinohio1:

Do you have signalcheck pro? There is a feature to export logs of connections (pro only?).

It will export on your phone to /root/signalcheck/(date)(cdma/lte)-sites.csv

Could you look through file and find the rows with a 1 in the second to last column and post the address in the last column (Tower address) or attach the file in a pm?

note: file may contain sensitive locations (i.e. home address in form of gps coordinates for safety you could delete everything before provider i.e. "Sprint")

  2. Thanks guys. I don't follow up with the forum that much because I work so much, so if my question upset some of you sorry. But thanks I really appreciated that my question was answered.

Watch this 3 minute video. Sums up a lot of what is talked about around here in a everyday business talk (not complicated).

If you have more questions feel free to ask in forum or by pm.

  3. I'm just randomly reading your thread, but wanted to point out that this situation makes perfect sense.  Please understand that Sprint is launching in clusters now due to an eCSFB issue.  Also, understand that they are working outside of the market inwards in order to keep dropped calls / frustration as small as possible.  Therefore, almost all areas notice the same thing.  Small rural towns get their towers upgrade to LTE first and then Sprint works there way in.  This is a generalization and cannot be taken as gospel for all areas.  Another thing to note is that towers are LTE accepted ONLY when they have backhaul installed.  It is extremely possible for one site to have backhaul installed and ready, while another site 2 miles away doesn't get backhaul installed for six months.  Another catch is permitting.  All of these upgrades are major and require a permit.  Some site locations are more difficult than others and therefore require more time / permitting in order to complete.  Therefore, please try to be as patient as possible, the light is nearing the end of the tunnel...

Toledo is over 80% LTE it is everything outside the the city that needs backhaul.

How can i determine which band it is, Fraydog?

Engineering Screen -> LTE Engineering -> Band Number

Engineering Screen Code Changes based on phone iirc but try *#*#33284#*#*

  4. Download CellViz when I leave the house it shows a line between my phone and the tower im connected to and it shows how far the tower signal goes before your phone jumps to the next tower im at home on collett and n street im connected to a tower hidden behind st ritas not the ones on top of the building.

FYI the locations at least for legacy (not sure about all NV) were offset from the towers by a few blocks. The locations used on the sponsor maps are to the actual towers.

Also it seems that there is work going on in Toledo market. I have been all over this morning and it seems there is no data from any tower at the moment. My phone is also only getting 1x from Michigan right now.

  5. I picked me up a new extended battery case for my phone that I'm going to use so I'm going to be running sensorly all over the city to help get a heavy map of sprint.

    Sent from an S4!

I picked this charger up a while ago and it works great in my car. I can run sensorly and my phone will actually charge. There are a couple models that support different phones but they are interchangeable.

  6. So there's been a lot of trying to figer out who is doing backhaul and such, so I did some research and I found century links service areas in our area. This to me is why we don't have sites With LTE, unfortunately it seems they are lacking in many markets. Don't mean they are doing all of the backhaul for sites, but it's a good chance https://www.centurylink.com/wholesale/territory_maps_us.html

  7. Ive heard that micro is not as good as good old fiber, not sure exactly why but I assume is somthing to do with interface maybe or somthing. I told Ryan I would myself like to have fiber, but if micro is the quicker faster way to get us LTE than let them. Being out in the BFE like I used to I don't think you'll really tell much diffrence tho having less people on the towers and such. I wish I knew a little more about this cus we have these little microwaves on our towers and they are new and Idk if they need to have one for receiving and out or just one. Keep an eye out like you have tho it's appreciated.

The they in the same direction or different? In general I would guess that it is two way data. One site could be supplying two others a data connection. Also it could be for a public service.

  8. Here's a couple of probably stupid questions...

How do I know which tower I'm connected to for data (3G)? The 1XRTT tower info is listed, but there is nothing listed under the eHRPD section about which tower the signal is coming from. Could they be coming from the same tower? If so, then why is there such a difference in the signal strength between the 1X and eHRPD?

Lastly, if you look at the screenshots, you'll notice the BID numbers are different. That means that the phone has changed towers, right? Is it normal for the phone to switch towers when it is sitting stationary on my desk? Not moving, it will constantly change between BID 426, 979, 996, and sometimes even a fourth.

    Thanks a lot.

Going to take a try at answering this but I may be wrong.

1.Only CDMA 1X transmits location. The developer for that app is mikejeep on this site S4GRU. The pro version gives an id but does not give a location.

    http://www.bluelinepc.com/signalcheck/help/#locations

    2. Voice and Data could be from the same tower but this is not a requirement.

    3. Not sure on the signal difference. Could be many different factors. Towers, Antennas, Tilt, Frequency...

    4. If the BID is changing that means your going from one base station to another. This could be because of signals dropping below a threshold and your phone finding a new tower. It is normal but should not be extremely excessive to the point you drop calls or have bad service.

edit: If you have a really high bid show up around 40,000 or (xAF--) show up that may be another issue.

  9. .... In a nutshell, yes. Each new network vision site has 2 new RRU's..1900 and 800.... As far in Monroe, those sites only have 1900 up... On the outside of West Toledo which where I live in sylvania, they been tested 800 only at one site Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

@redskykiter I have connected to that 800 site at my house when bid 514 was out. I was also connecting to the most southern accepted site in Michigan also.

edit: Check the screen shot for that. At my house I had a -105 RSSI -22.0dB Ec/Io. It would rate that as almost usable.

  10. Sorry for spamming.  So I just figured out (by dialing *99) that I am connecting to someone's air rave... This may explain my crap signal??   Do air rave's have their own BID? If I'm not connected to this BID 44852 everything works fine.  Any suggestions on how to not connect to a neighbor's air rave?

  11. Based on what I have written down for these towers.

Ketukkee Trail is the one behind Meijer.

    Waldorf is over by I-280

    Rudy's is actually the 514 (hex 202)

The last one has got me. That is a new 3G site for around here. Guess I really need to check that site Ryan asked me to a week ago and have been busy.

edit: I spend a lot of time in this area so these are the towers I have the most data for.
