  1. Robert would happen to know anything more about the site at Fowler and 50th? It has had panels up for around 60 days now so I'm just curious as to what the delay may be. Particularly curious because this area has several fiber lines that service the university so I wouldn't imagine backhaul being a pressing issue.

That whole area gets Verizon FIOS. My work office has it and so does my apartment 1/2 mile away. I hope it comes on soon

  2. Were you ever able to check and see if there was a dbm different between the Evo LTE and S3 as far as 1x and EVDO was concerned?

I checked the EVDO RSSI levels between the Evo LTE and the S3. Side by side the S3 is getting 10-14 dbms better signal than the evo

  3. I believe it is actually the same radio as the S3. I wonder how much the metal backing comes into play here...

all the antennas are in the top plastic half. i know the lte modem is built into the Qualcomm chipset in the same die as the processor. But i dont know if theres a separate amplifier component.

Hopefully soon it wont matter as much as we'll get the dead/fringe spots filled in.

  4. One was at like 100 and thr other was 114dbm giver or take. It gets lte everywhe the S3 does unlike my Gnexus lol just seems to be harder for it to get and stay connected

14dbm is a huge difference. Between the Evo LTE and S3 i usually see ~8dbm side by side. just to give you an idea, 8 dbm is about how much you loose by going indoors or the difference between betting 1-3 mpbs and 10-12mbps

  5. LTE can still be really slow still. I am pretty sure my LTE signal was low didn't get a chance to look at the engineering screen.

this was done at my office in sable park.

just fyi sensorly shows dbm under the more details screen. also the CDMA Field Test app shows db in app and in the status bar. Looking at your speeds, i would guess you had about 118-120 dbm signal, which is bare minimum

  6. I was at dale Mabry and northdale inside a restaurant and had great lte signal.

    I have an evo lte: 12mbps down 6 mbps up.signal: 96db

My gf with an S3 : 28mbps down 8 mbps up signal: 92db

It's pretty crazy how the S3 can get choose better speeds with only a 4db signal difference

  7. It shouldn't fail unless of course the 3G is overloaded where it can't stream it. Or maybe Netflix's app can't handle the different in speed change between 4G and 3G.

Its failing because LTE and 3g have different IPs until they turn the NV cluster on

  8. There is no Network Vision 3G upgrades live yet in the Tampa area. Sprint has to bring 3G improvements up in clusters. So even sites with new NV backhaul will still have 3G on legacy side until the whole cluster that site belongs to is complete.

i thought that once EHRPD was set that all 3g traffic was routed through the lte backhaul and had the same IP address etc. So what you are saying that even if you are connected with EHRPD that its going through the old 3g backhaul? so if im connected to a tower and loose LTE i'll switch to EHRP and the old backhaul and have a different IP address right? once they switch the whole cluster then they'll share the same backbone right?

i've been getting speeds of ~1-1.5 mbps hopefully once they switch the backhauls we can get 2-3mpbs on 3g. that would be great!!

how big are clusters? say 5-10 towers? or are we talking a certain mile radius?

  10. Curious, did you notice if 1x and EVDO values were affected?

if you are connected to LTE the CDMA field test app will not show you evdo or 1x. I have noticed that the evdo signal drops quickly, right in front of perkins i get 60 db by the time i get to fletcher and 56 its down to 90 db

  11. Could you actually take a picture of the two phone's signal strength in the same location using the SignalCheck app? I'm curious to see the difference for myself.

It was turned on last Friday or Saturday I think. Coincidentally I found out when I was debugging my app that night lol.

We were at the papa johns sitting next to each over by the glass window. Using the CDMA Field Test app i was getting ~96 and she was getting ~88, I dont remember the exact values, but it was 8-9 db difference 1 ft appart

  12. There is a new one on Bruce B Downs off of 42nd street that I mapped the other day. I think I posted about it too thinking it was the Perkins tower. It practically covers the whole campus right now, but not indoors.

When did that one get turned on? I was at the papa johns off Bruce b downs and 42nd a couple of days ago and was getting pretty good signal. I thought it was the one behind the fire station since the signal died when i got to 42nd and fletcher

Im jealous of my girlfriend's S3, that thing pulls doen 8-10 db more than my Evo LTE
