FIBER IS IN THE HOUSE!
Upon completion of Sprint's network overhaul, Sprint expects 90 percent of its backhaul to be driven by Ethernet over fiber and the remaining over microwave.

Why not simply have lower prices? ATT and Verizon worship margins. If Sprint gets meaningful 600 MHz coverage going, it's doubtful VZW, ATT would decrease prices until Sprint steals many customers. He is probably not wrong since he didn't really step out on a limb with any conclusions. I don't think there is capacity in the US market for more than the two big guys. They have built out over a good chunk of the nation and I have my doubts that if Sprint or T-Mobile expand beyond highways and cities that they will make that investment back. That doesn't mean I think Sprint and T-Mobile will go away, they will need to differentiate themselves from the big two in ways that no analyst will be able to predict. If they execute that strategy then they will be king. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 4

LTE?By the way for those that are interested, Sprint now has 3g service at Stennis Space Center.

Why is that unfortunate? Competition is always good.T Mobile has put up a bunch of shops labeled as Metro PC s. Trying to sell all you can eat for $40 a month. This last month at least 18 towers have went up in the area for LTE in Toledo... Unfortunately the s#$% is faster than sprint. Which would be the last in the area..

A dividend. They're also buying cable networks so they can bundle services like with Kabel Deutchsland. But what the heck are they going to do with all that money? Pay down debt? Blech !!! Invest it in Europen networks? Europe is still mired in crisis. They have to do some M&A.

The FCC said "no" to AT&T. There is a difference.
That S4GRU might say "no" to you, maximus, does not mean that S4GRU would say "no" to every member.

I still think they want 4 players. I sure do.

That was because USM is pulling out of Chicago. Is this number on top of the layoffs from the US Cellular purchase? There were over 600 laid off in Chicago alone.

Lower. The ones that ATT bought from Verizon for ~$3 bil in Verizon's AWS-related divestment. Are you referring to the Lower 700 MHz C block licenses or the Upper 700 MHz C block licenses that VZW won? The Lower 700 MHz C block licenses were not included in Auction 73 in 2008. They were auctioned five years earlier.

Soon to be 6 bands: WCS (30), 700 MHz D,E supplemental downlink (29).You're absolutely right about their spectrum. Their UE requirements have changed to Band 2, 4, 5, 17 after they've divested large chunks of their AWS spectrum to T-Mobile. And since they don't really have nationwide lower 700Mhz paired spectrum either, they have to deploy LTE in other three bands. Perfect example is Bloomington, IL where they're introducing Band 5.
As far as user experience, I don't think it should matter that much as long as your AT&T branded device supports all four LTE bands.

They will leave 5Mhz of HSPA+ and refarm 5MHz for LTE. 37Mbps vs 14Mbps (AT&T never went for the 21Mbps flavor). I would take that tradeoff.
AT&T (NYSE:T) said it is moving to the 21 Mbps version of HSPA+ as it upgrades its network rather than the 14.4 Mbps HSPA+ version, a move likely precipitated by T-Mobile USA's aggressive migration to the 21 Mbps HSPA+ variant.

Their own doing. They cheaped out in the 700 auction. They could've bought all the B,C blocks.Although I had heard it before, I never thought how much of spectrum disaster att has. It has to lead to very inconsistent experience for customers from market to market.

This FCC said no when TMO was failing. Why would they yes with TMO succeeding and putting pressure on big 3?Yes, companies do these strategic, "what if" exercises all the time. But they don't take a year+ and they don't do an in depth analysis. We are talking about financial, project management and technical integration. Plus outside M&A teams and consultants. Sprint and T-Mobile were talking even before Softbank but the work has really picked up since. But like I said, whether it will happens or not or gets approved, that is something entirely different. All I know is that it is seriously being considered and vigorously studied.
Hesse probably told Son to not waste the money on TMO integration studies cause he knew what would happen if they tried to merge.

Fake trees? Booo. You'd think people would be happy to see a site so close to them.I normally notice the flagpole and fake tree sites are near highways, so I imagine they are more positioned and tuned to serve road traffic than the population in the local area.

Sprint.Maybe. But VZW does not have the same level of PCS holdings that the other big three do. New York City is really the exception in that regard with 40 MHz of PCS. In so many other markets, VZW has only a single 10 MHz PCS license. At best, that would buy VZW only an added 5 MHz FDD band 2 LTE 1900 carrier. What does that really gain?

Would've been better to have an extra $3bil. Stupid dish.Sprint has attractive borrowing opportunities now, id say there isnt really a minimum or maximus reality anymore between their budget sheets and ability to pursue
Sent from my Note II. Its so big.

Urban, suburban, rural?TLPS does not seem to fit a macro network model. Not enough power. TLPS needs a site or access point every block.

How much "extra" money does sprint have? With the extra money could they get more aggressive? Tell them to get the work done or we will offer more money to this guy? idk..
$5bil from softy minus Clearwire price minus USM spectrum buy.

So for voice ATT is using pcs? Why the rush to refarm when HSPA can give you decent speeds AND voice?

All articles I've read about m2m have the carriers insisting they're keeping 2g as long as their m2m customers need them even Verizon. The problem is machine to machine (M2M) connections. Apparently, a lot of those rely on GSM/GPRS/EDGE. That is a questionable choice in the US, since GSM coverage has historically lagged well behind cdmaOne/CDMA2000 coverage. For M2M almost everywhere in the US, CDMA1X or EV-DO would make far more sense. But the GSM based M2M modules are reportedly very cheap because of international economy of scale. So, M2M customers went the cheap route. It could come back to bite them, as some may have to upgrade to W-CDMA or LTE modules after only a few years.
AJ
But I call BS. I think 5mhz FDD LTE is orders more profitable than equal spectrum amount for CDMA/gsm m2m.

Try to get sprint to expedite nv nationwide then lol.Area no. We are nation wide. Every state and Puerto Rico.

The problem occurs if ATT, Verizon go after USM and bring in TMO for the dismemberment to appease the FCC/DOJ.Oh no, not this again. Like I said in the US Celluar thread, I don't think Sprint needs to accquire USCC. Some kind of LTE roaming deal would be perfect for both.
For that possibility alone it'd be wise for sprint to go after USM.

Wow they're moving quick.Yeah, the current AT&T antennas list basically a 700-2200 MHz range on the bottom. We have a telephoto shot or two in one of the threads around here. But I believe the antennas have only one low frequency port, one high frequency port, making them basically dual band antennas.
If AT&T cannot or will not do AWS 2100+1700 MHz in a market, the high frequency port in the current antennas seemingly could be used for PCS 1900 MHz. So, maybe the new antennas are for Cellular 850 MHz and WCS 2300 MHz.

System for Mobile Communications, or GSM, and Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, or EDGE, will be on market-by-market basis. Service on the networks will be fully discontinued by about Jan. 1, 2017.

Does nv go faster in the summer?
Are there any safety limitations for work in winter like minimum temperature, no work when it's snowing etc.
WSJ: Sprint looking at T-Mobile purchase

We're afraid it'll start being like in Canada: 3 carriers, horrible pricing.
Without Tmobile, that's one less reason for Sprint to keep unlimited. And regarding the "unlimited for life ..." whats to stop Sprint from pulling an ATT and interpreting that to mean "throttles after 3 GB"? Definitely not the "arbitration is mandatory" contracts all carriers use.
