  1. Does anyone know if Sprint changed the LTE TDD configuration to configuration 2? I decided to run a speedtest in my office and got 14Mb/s down 2 Mb/s up, where it used to be about 9Mb/s down and 4.5Mb/s up. I'm using a Moto G4 Plus which does NOT have carrier aggregation btw.

You shouldn't have had to pay for high speed data in Canada anyway. In addition to Global Roaming, did you also have the $0 Premium International Experience enabled on your line(s)?

I went into my account online and thought I added $0 Premium international Experience the week before I left on the trip.  The day before the trip I double checked again, and premium international was still an option so again I added it again to my plan.  After both times maybe an hour or two later I did receive a confirmation email that my services were changed.

I just checked my account again and the Premium International Experience is still available as an option. It looks like it's not sticking when I select it as an option to add to my plan.  This is despite the fact that I do receive confirmation emails that a change to my plan was made (but the email doesn't specify what changed, only that it did change).

  3. Just came back from Montreal for the weekend.  My Sprint service worked fine for calls and text, but data was throttled to 2g speeds (speedtests were showing 0.02 Mb/s down and 0.05 Mb/s up).  My Unlimited Freedom plan has global roaming, but I thought I was supposed to receive a text to invite me to pay for high speed data passes?  I'm using an unlocked Moto G4 Plus, so maybe only Sprint branded phones get that option?  In my hotel I was on wifi and looked at my Sprint plan online and didn't see an option for high speed data.

  4. Good news for those of you in Houston. Sprint has finally thinned out 3G on the PCS band. They have shut off EVDO channels 725 and 775 in favor of a second LTE carrier (1965-1970 MHz). They've also done some optimization where LTE is now going in deeper into buildings and holding on even longer (looks like they lowered the qrxlevmin).

I'm disappointed it took them over a year and a half after San Antonio did this. But impressed nonetheless. I guess Calling+ is about to see a massive push.

I noticed that earlier this week in the parking garage at my office. I didn't know if it was something new or just an error with the signal check pro app.  I'm near the Galleria off of 59/Southwest Freeway and New Castle.

I get a solid B41 signal in my office so this isn't important to me here but it'll be nice around town when not on B41.

  5. I really don't understand this sudden Warren Buffett talk rumors. Prior to this, it was about Comcast and Charter, then of course before that for the longest time it was about merging Sprint with T-Mobile.

I have nothing against Sprint and not bashing Sprint themselves, but it seems Softbank's control of Sprint is a complete mess, including the terms of the deal involved when Softbank bought into Sprint in the first place. Having banks tell Softbank that the company isn't allowed to invest any money into Sprint? Wow! A completely wrecked system, in my opinion.

At this point, I much rather Dish had bought Sprint instead and kept Dan Hesse onboard. They would at least have deployed enough spectrum to get Sprint strong enough to make a solid purchase of T-Mobile eventually, which between the three of them especially, we'd be seeing Sprint in first place dominating the other carriers.

Again, this isn't a Sprint problem, but a Softbank one. Hopefully Masa unloads Sprint to someone who will properly take care of Sprint the way it should be. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the next rumors involve AT&T, Verizon, or possibly Bill Gates.

Dish also has tons of debt and wouldn't be of any help.  Dish was originally looking to have someone else build their network using the spectrum they own.  Sprint doesn't have enough money to deploy their own spectrum let alone someone else's spectrum.

  6. Meanwhile, in East Texas & Houston...No sign of a second B25 carrier at all. Just a single congested G block carrier to go along with an even more congested B26 carrier. This network inconsistency Sprint has in each market drives me crazy. They should just thin out CDMA already since EVOD sits unused for the most part.

It's been a while since I've been to SA, but I believe the last 2nd B25 carrier is seen just east of Luling on I-10 when you head to Houston. Anyone know if that's changed? I think Sprint had the spectrum to push a second carrier all the way to Sealy, TX but they haven't done so since my last drive out there.

Houston is really thin with 1900mhz spectrum.  Wish Sprint would have been able to grab some 1900mhz when AT&T bought out Cricket Wireless.

  7. Yeah, and it was not a great Arysyn post.  A top notch Arysyn post must hit all of the highlights:

    1. dislike of John Legere
    2. problems with retail stores or customer service
    3. his illness/disability
    4. his mother

I think you're off base here.  Where's the part about fantasy wireless plans?

  8. The advantage comes in capacity as opposed to raw speed. You can put more carriers on air even if you aren't aggregating them. You can also adjust the download to upload ratio to favor downloads more heavily which Sprint is already in the process of doing. That'll push the max download speed on 2 carriers beyond 168Mbps.

Right, but in those capacity strained areas you'll more than likely have small cells, which at the moment are 2X20 B41 which isn't a huge advantage for areas where Verizon or T-Mobile has 20mhz of B4 for small cells. 120mhz of B41 isn't necessary unless Sprint decides to waste a ton of specturm like they did with Wimax.

  9. Does T-Mobile have plans for small cells?

Ultimately when it comes to capacity it seems like adding small cells is the way to go and that's what Verizon is doing. 3x20 B41 sounds nice and all, but in high density areas where even more capacity is needed small cells will be used. Sprint's small cells are capable of 2x20 B41, which isn't a huge advantage over a 20X20 layer over B4 (what is it, like 168Mb max download vs 150Mb max download?)

It doesn't seem like having 120mhz of B41 available in a single market is that much of an advantage versus if Sprint only had 2x20 or 3x20 B41 CA.
