I would elect to go for the YOU'RE_ON_4G, but that's just me...

LOL, sorry to go all grammar police on you. Just poking fun...

Oh... Yes. My mind was thinking in programming mode where an apostrophe is considered unacceptable lol.

If someone could post a link to how to decompile the systemui.apk and change it, then re-apply it that would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to try anything without a set of instructions, or if Ascertion could do it for me I'd really appreciate it.

  2. Like this?

Easy mod in Systemui as the icon was already there.

    Sent from my little Note2

Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking!!!

If you guys give me your SystemUI.apk I can change the 4g icon for you and send you a flash able zip. Let me know if you're interested. Theming is my specialty. ;)

Also - I can change 3g to EvDo or 1x to 2G. Lol whatever floats your boat. I just run pure aosp because I like Googles icons.

Can you guide me through the process of giving you the SystemUI.apk and then re-applying it? I've never modified anything like that and I have some idea on probably how to do it, but I don't want to screw it up...

  3. Hi everyone,

I've been using this site for a while now, and LTE is starting to pop up around me (still haven't connected to it personally yet though). I have a rooted galaxy s3, and from what I've heard, when you connect to LTE, the only sort of notification you get is that the 3G changes to the number 4G in the notifications bar. Since I don't often look there (and glancing up there I probably wouldn't catch sight of it unless all of a sudden my data was going a heck of a lot faster), I'm wondering if there is a way to change what it shows in the status bar as 4G. Maybe something obvious like YOUR_ON_4G or something like that? Or if that's too long I'd rather have it just say 4G LTE so it'll be a little different? Does anyone know how to do this? Right now I'm running stock but I'm considering cyanogenmod for all its themes.

    Thanks everyone,

    Joe

  4. I don't know if this is the best forum to post my question, and I'd be happy to ask it where it should be if someone directs me to where that would be...

Anyways, I live in a fair to poor signal area (most 1x bars I get is about 3. Usually I get less than 1). The tower that I think I get my service from isn't in a very rural area, and I have a feeling that it will be upgraded to lte when it comes to my town (even though I can get up to 1 Mbps from a certain room upstairs right now with 3G). When lte comes, do you think my signal strength will improve at all, or if I take my phone to the parts of my house with three bars, will I get faster speeds possibly above 5mbps?

    Thanks everyone,

    Joe

  5. I followed Grand River in each direction until LTE gave up on my phone. What you see is what you get for the moment. I attempted to go down Hughes Rd to connect to Golf Club Rd but I lost LTE signal lock just about as soon as I made the corner. Latson north of Golf Club and M-59 heading east towards Hartland was as I was leaving town. I drove around Home Depot, Lowe's, Staples and Meijer for fun. I wanted to follow the loop from Latson south of Grand River to Grand Oaks but road construction prevented that. I hit each leg of that loop the best I could since the tower is on Grand Oaks.

Thanks. I hope the surrounding area will pop up quickly.

While I'm at it, thanks to everyone mapping this information on sensorly and for the inside sources at sprint who give us this data! I know I really appreciate it and I'm sure there are many others like me who feel the same. Keep up the great work!

  6. Quick question to those mapping the area: does the lte extend all the way to Brighton? From the look of the map on sensorly it seems that the person traveling SE on grand river avenue just seemed to turn it off. I have relatives in Brighton and 3G service there is pretty good (but 4g would be better). Haven't been out there recently so I'm hoping the next time I go I'll be able to use lte there.

I don't seem to recall Sprint ever making any promises to me, especially keeping me abreast of all roll-out details and schedules. I also don't feel as if Sprint owes me anything or make them out to be liars if they don't meet standards that only I myself hold.

I'm referring to the emails sprint has personally sent to me when I asked about their 4g rollout. In their own words, "Sprint is dedicated to keeping its customers fully informed in regards to network vision improvements and the 4g LTE rollout".

I'm sorry I wasn't clearer by mentioning the email in my previous post.

  8. I heard from a source one of the sites in Howell, Michigan is now complete with LTE. It may or may not be live at this time. But Samsung is calling for inspection. Yay! Finally.

I am so enthusiastic for the first site to come online! What a great way to start the new year! A nice purple LTE dot on sensorly might call for a trip out just to let my s3 see the light of LTE for the first time.

Hopefully my area (Romeo) won't be far behind! Thanks to everyone on this site for all your help, and happy new year!

  9. I'm not sure what happened but my 3g speeds have gone from averaging 150kbps to 1.5mbps in my little town just south of Ann Arbor (Saline for those of you that know the area). Whether they are doing NV or not I don't know, but they clearly did something and I'm a content customer again

Same to me. I was actually able to peck 2 Mbps (which is a new high for me) with my average being at about 1.7 Mbps a couple of days ago. Streaming pandora is actually a reasonable thing again. I have a feeling NV must be going on and we'll see lte come soon (or customers are leaving sprint and therefore freeing up the airwaves) but I have a feeling it's NV :-) Ill keep my eye on towers as I pass and trust me I'll be one of the first to put lte on sensorly once I get it.

Merry Christmas everyone and I hope by next Christmas I'll be posting via 4g!

  10. But... then why would he need to be rooted or jailbroken? And why is he talking like tethering is unlimited?

:angel:just me feigning innocence that's all

Just to be clear that I am not breaking the posting rules, the text that follows is based on fact, not my personal opinion.

Unauthorized (aka illegal) tethering requires rooting and uses your phones unlimited data plan, thus sending all its data through the same port that your phone usually would if you were using it for Internet. Authorized tethering by sprint uses a different port so they can track how much you use of it and does not require rooting. The penalty for illegal tethering is typically cancellation of the account.

    Now for a question:

Would I be able to (without breaking any laws) use an app to project my phone's screen onto my computer and from there to my tv? When 4g gets out here my idea was to stream Netflix on the phone, but just show it elsewhere (for the obvious reason that my home Internet could be better). I don't see it as tethering technically, but I'd like the community's opinion

I don't think Sprint will say in official channels that work is under way in markets they have not announced. I remember something similar happening in Raleigh. I had someone confront me and say I was lying that work was under way in the Raleigh/Durham market and they cited some official Sprint FB page or Tweet or something. It wasn't even but a week later that Sensorly reported the first hit in the market and it showed up in the following site update. It was a full two months later before Sprint acknowledged work in Raleigh.

So that tweet does not concern me one iota. Have you been able to verify if it is even legit?

    I really hope you're right.

On a side note I'd like to say that I've noticed quite a 3G speed boost lately. A couple of days ago I tried a speed test and was able to pull 1.3 Mbps (on 3G ehrpd of course) :-) . I really hope NV is making progress around here. How long does it take lte to turn on after 3G nv improvements start?
