  1. I'm getting a 4G signal in my office for the first time. This is in Dearborn on the Ford campus (near intersection of Village & Military Rds).

Speeds are not great (500K down, 1400K up), but it's a start. 3G has been so lousy for the last several months that anything will be an improvement.

Those speeds are my average 4G. Since Sprint 4G towers are so far and few between, I'm usually in the 1-2 bar range. The fastest I've ever seen is about 12mb down (Considerably slower than my friends on verizon at 20 meg) but that's fast enough in my book. I can relate to you with my first 4G speeds (300k down), but they are making fast progress and by summer there should be more consistant coverage.

I can't wait for their 4G coverage to be everywhere, because I plan on streaming HD Netflix and using tons of my unlimited 4G just because I can (to make up for all the stuff I wish I could have downloaded over my first year with sprint). I also find those root wifi tether apps very interesting...

Bottom line: I'm good with Sprint's progress so far and I hope they can improve by the time my contract is up so that they'll be as competitive as Verizon.

Cyanogenmod shows accurate 3G signal. If it were showing you 1x, it would say "1x" next to the bars. CM shows all signals correctly.

Mine shows the correct type of signal (3G, 4g, 1x). However the bars for everything but 4g aren't accurate. See screenshot. Network signal monitor is accurate because I know I'm in a 5 bar signal area, but my CM bars say I've got nothing.

  3. It's been reported that CM 10 series shows LTE signal strength. And fortunately it does, because it will not allow you to use dialer codes and access your LTE Engineering screen.

So glad they got that in! Now if I could only change the bars to show the right data while on 3G... Still, as 4G becomes more common I guess it really won't matter.

    Thanks!

  4. Just upgraded to the latest version of cyanogenmod (10.1) and it seems now whenever I connect to 4G the bars will suddenly change to an accurate reading. I know whenever I'm on 3G the bars show my 1X signal strength, which on sprint apparently is terrible, but as soon as the 4G light comes on the entire thing changes completely. Does anyone know if in Cyanogenmod the bars don't lie and in fact show your true signal strength?

  5. Ive noticed my signal around the washington/macomb area has not been as good. Also been trying to pick up the signal at 23 and card and my phone has a hard time connecting. Does anyone have a problem with there EVO 4G LTE not picking up signal?

I agree with you completely. I've found myself stuck on 1X occasionally and it sucks... I really hope it's due to work. We'll see in a week or two.

I've never tried this, but could you replace the SystemUI.apk in /system/ with a stock one? I would nandroid first before attempting it, but it could be worth a try.

I'm on digiblur's ROM now and it has very good battery life, lean, and nice and clean. Might be worth a try.

Just tried flashing the stock SystemUI apk and... It did nothing. I initially thought it was going to work, too. Hmmm. I think it has something to do with Cyanogenmod's theme chooser and constantly changing systemUI files.... I'll play around a little but if any one hears any thing lmk!

  7. I know this forum is kind of done, but I'm having some trouble in cyanogenmod now. I realize that cyanogenmod's status bar (and more specifically the signal strength) is very different from the stock, and after about a month I find myself wanting to return to stock just for the signal strength meter in the status bar. Does anyone know of a way to change the entire signal status icon along with the 3G/4G data up/down thing to the stock one? Or if its easier can anyone suggest a stock-like rom that gives me the speed of cyanogenmod? Its speed and reliability is what keeps me using it.

  8. Finally drove out to see the LTE at Hall rd. and Gratiot, and I wasn't impressed at all. My galaxy had a very hard time finding the signal to begin with, and then once it found it and locked on it didn't want to hold it. The first time it grabbed 4G I went to the google play store to update some apps, but after I clicked update it shocked me by saying no connection. Then it went back to eHRPD. I'm running cyanogenmod but I don't think that should be a big deal. I really hope this was something to do with signal strength where I was. I guess I'll try again when I go to Brighton next month where I hope to find service that'll compare to my friends on AT&T...

  9.

It means that Sprint has verified that the upgrade is complete and functioning as designed.

Was wondering the same thing... Glad someone cleared that up.

Can we expect new sites to begin coming online faster? I understand that covering the state (well technically in east Michigan about half) does take a lot of towers, but should they start popping up in more areas more frequently?

  10. Thank you, Virtualbot. I finally got some time to sit down and really look this over and I think it worked. I changed my cyanogenmod signal strengh bars to the default samsung ones, and so far I like it. 4G will be the real test on whether it worked or not. I have that network monitor widget so I'll know when it should be saying 4G.

Thanks everyone for all your help!
