Is it common for Sprint to attach their antennas and panels to high voltage towers?
-
Well, let me update, Transferred everything over to the Galaxy S3. PATHETIC SPEEDS.
Now, mind you, this phone is connecting to the SAME TOWER it was when I had the Victory.
I'm suddenly on a new prefix (931-447-xxxx) instead of the number (931-371-2291) that I had earlier. Not sure why I couldn't keep the same number.
Anyways, NOW, My LTE never reaches over 10mbps (versus over 30.....not that I need that much speed...but why cripple my speed all the sudden)............My ip address is coming from DESTIN, FLA!!!!!!
Earlier, my IP address was coming from Shelbyville, TN (duh, I'm in TN, I should be routed from TN).
I know mobile broadband devices used something called a HA(home address). I wonder if I can get Sprint to reassign me a closer HA)??????
NOT HAPPY!
This can happen. I have connected to the same tower and had Nashville one time, Ringold, GA another time. I would suspect it is distributing the load on the servers. Speed can also vary due to usage. More people can be on at one time and it will slow the speed. In downtown Nashville, I can have days where speed can be 8 down and 4 up, then days where the speed is less than 3 down and 1 up. As they say it is a work in progress and it has shown much progress since the deploy started.

That is true but with all of the upgrades, I thought the network would hold up better.

I will say this. Sprint needs to improve the network in downtown Nashville. With the CMT Music Festival in town and the crowd it brings, the newtwork could barely send a text message. I know it is still being worked but this is a perfect stress test of the network and it was disappointing.

Careful now. Japan,Taiwan, and South Korea are very different places from China. You wouldn't say "North American" And throw in Canada and the USA if Mexico was doing unsavory things, right?
I thought I specified China in my example?

With the patents, it really does not matter to the Asian manufacturers. They will copy something with complete disregard of the patents that are in place. It does not matter what industry either. I was working in the manufacturing industry years ago attending a tooling show in Chicago watching the latest evolution of what machinery could do. A US manufacturer had a new design that saved time and money for the end user of the product. While standing there, I saw someone from an Asian manufacturer (China) with a sketch pad drawing this new machine in detail and writing its capabilities down. He stood there for hours. Guess what was on display two years later at the same show....

Jesus is LTE that power hungry on the iPhone?
It is for me. When in the office or home, I stay on WiFi. Now it does depend if I am using data on the phone with LTE but it does drain it fairly fast.
-
I have upgraded to OS 6.1.4 and have not had any issues with battery life. I do make sure that at least twice a day that I double click the home button and fully close the apps that I have opened. Some apps will continue to run in the background and drain the battery rather quickly.
If I am running LTE full time, it will drain the battery quickly as well, probably three times faster than WiFi or 3G.

I'm going to be visiting Nashville in July, and specifically for a few days I'm going to be at Belmont University. Does anyone know if this location has solid 4G coverage? I am hoping to turn on the mobile hotspot feature on my phone and use that. If there isn't solid in-building coverage, I'll just use a Verizon LTE MiFi that I have. Any reports on how coverage is around the University would be appreciated.
Thanks!
The signal there is good. They just turned on a LTE tower a few weeks ago.that is less than 200 yards from the campus.

Depending on where you are versus the location of the tower, the LTE signal sometimes is not able to penetrate the walls of a building. I have discovered this even in my office in downtown Nashville. I have towers that are close emitting LTE and if I go to the center of the building, I do not pick up the signal.Live in Mt Juliet, been getting 4g at my house in the Providence Area for past couple of weeks. Still get crap service in the actual Market Place though...

Robert will have a very large update for the Nashville market when he updates. LTE is available in several new areas in Nashville, including my home.
-
The tower closest to my home is now pinned as converted to 4G but not currently emitting a 4G signal. Hopefully by the time I get back from traveling in a week, it will be up and running strong.

I believe the tower at 12th Ave S and Wedgewood is back up again. I am able to pick up that tower at the office.

A question to those in the know. I was looking at the NV map versus a map available on Sprint's website that displays the tower locations to be upgraded. I see towers that are on the Sprint map that are not pinned on the NV map. Does this mean if the tower is not yet scheduled to be upgraded at this time if is not pinned on the NV map? .
Thanks for the insight.

The LTE signals where I work in Nashville is becoming more consistant and stronger. I work in a building that is like a bunker so if I go to the middle of the building, I loose the LTE signal but kudos to those who are fine tuning the signals.
-
An FYI... I am receiving an LTE signal here:
Lat - 36.1472
Long - -86.7935
Did a speedtest and it is not very good right now but it should improve. It is on for a few minutes, then off for a little while.
Network Vision/LTE - Nashville Market (including Knoxville/Chattanooga/Tri-Cities)
in Markets

I have to disagree with the snails pace that is being discussed. With the acceptance reports that Robert is adding, the Nashville Market, not just Knoxville itself, is one of the fastest movers in the US on average. We have to remember that The Nashville Market goes from the state line with NC, includes a small part of VA, then heads west to the TN River. I am not sure how many towers that incorporates but I ponder a guess of 500 to 600. Even with the coverage that is shown in Nashville on the maps, LTE, 3G and voice are still spotty in areas but is getting better.
As Robert has stated on many occasions, the crews go to where the work is. There is not rhyme nor reason on the pattern of which towers are completed next. There are variables with permits, access to the property on which the tower is located, where NV equipment is delivered, etc... that can hold up the change. The crews are not going to wait in one area when it is available and ready to be installed in another. They need to make their money too.
Just remember, once the conversion is complete, Sprint, in my opinion, will have the better network. Granted, it may be longer that we would like it to be. I will not change to the others for the same hatred due to all of the data I use in a month for emails. I would burn through the others 2GB data plans in about 3 days on average.
