  1. Im in the same boat

Just saw that Sprint officially launched Jacksonville today.

I'm trying to maintain some optimism, but the rollout has been painfully slow and my experience with LTE thus far is that if I stand outside, in the right spot, the speed is great. However, anywhere that I actually need to use it, you can't get an LTE signal, and the 3g is dial up slow.

I've been with Sprint for so long, that I think I have a little Stockholm syndrome. I don't want to wait another year or two for the upgrades, but I can't bring myself to throw in the towel either.

  2. I'm still scratching my head as to why sprint says my city Ocala Fl has LTE and its has major gaps on the sw side of town, where I dont know, the college, bestbuy, the mall, college dorms, Walmart, Starbucks, shopping plaza and even Sprint only corporate store has no LTE to be found because they have not updated 3 of the most crucial towers in the city. They also lied on the coverage map and says that its covered my fair LTE when there is none at all. That's false advertising to the max and I'm genuinely upset that they lauched as a official LTE market and false coverage just because tmobile put them under pressure to get there LTE numbers up. Disappointed to the max

  3. Ocala fl where I live was definitely not ready to be launched. The most important part of the city still has no 4g lte. There only corporate sprint store has virtually no 3g data right in the middle of the city. They haven't gotten to the most important tower in the city yet to the point where I can almost call this false advertising. Side note loving my new nexus 7 :)

  4. While I agree that Sprint will eventually have the most advanced network I don't think they will be first with LTE advance even if its easier for them to do it than Verizon or AT&T because tmobile can upgrade just as easy since they are using release 9 too. Sprint is far behind the other carriers in deploying LTE because they way they are doing it just takes more time so about time sprint is finished with its initial deployment of LTE the other carriers probably would have got the jump on LTE Advanced 6-8 months before hand

That's the fastest 4G LTE signal you've gotten in the Jax area? What was your signal strength? LTE is very signal strength dependent. LTE has been great pretty much everywhere in Jax for me and has gotten a lot better even within the last week. With a LTE signal of -110 to -114, I can easily pull-down 6-12mbps and 1.5-5mbps uplink. Once I get a signal better than -104, my speeds increase drastically, sometimes upwards of 25mbps downlink and 8-10mbps uplink. Just give Sprint some time to fill-in coverage holes and also get 800CDMA turned on. After that, you'll see better overall overage (especially for voice due to 800CDMA) and should see much faster LTE speeds due to getting better signal from having the towers all converted to NV. You'll also see your 3G EVDO speeds increase drastically once those towers are converted to NV. I easily get 1.5-2.5mbps downlink on EVDO now on the NV towers. They easily beat Verizon's speedtests on EVDO most of the time (I have devices on Verizon and AT&T). If you experience slow LTE speeds, it's most likely because the site your connected to is the only one in your area and is serving a large swath of people trying to connect to it (or you're not getting a good signal). Once more sites get converted to NV, the congested towers will be less congested. Once 800mhz LTE and 2.5/6ghz LTE gets lit-up in Jax, you'll really start to see Sprint shine (if you have a Tri-band LTE device). I'm already starting to Sprint's consistency rival Verizon and AT&T's in my area. Verizon might have faster burst speeds than Sprint's but Sprint's stays pretty consistent and Verizon's can really slow-down, almost as slow as 1mbps. AT&T is no different. Coming from somebody that has devices on all three carriers, there is no perfect carrier. Sprint is really starting to impress me and this time next year, Sprint will have the most advanced network in the industry and will probably be the first carrier to launch true 4G (LTE-Advanced). 5. Oh snap. Thats not good. Thanks for informing me. I don't really care about 800 cdma much as I rarley drop calls now as it is. I care about LTE 800 and since my phone is not capable of that I don't believe this issuer is much of a concern right now. LTE 1900 right now I'm my area is terrible at building penetration anyways. In almost every case I go from 97-110 dBm LTE outside to ehrpd inside. Could be a EVO issue as my girlfriends gs3 goes farther on the LTE signal but its unuable when she does

Once CDMA1X 800 goes live, you may be screwed. If this has disabled automatic band selection on your EVO LTE, then you will be unable to connect to CDMA1X 800 + LTE 1900 simultaneously. Effectively, you will have to choose between CDMA1X 800 by itself or CDMA1X 1900 + LTE 1900. Additionally, when roaming, you will have to choose the appropriate band for the particular roaming partner.

  6. Actually this doesn't affect me in the least. There is no 800 mhz frequency in my area. I would actually prefer to use my bands manually because once 800 mhz is wide spread that's where I'm staying and I just got this replacement phone like 2 weeks ago so a factory reset doesn't bother me. It's still switching between LTE and EV-DO just fine and that's all I care about.

That is not a Field Trial.apk engineering screen. That is the Testing.apk menu. And, congratulations, you may have just disabled automatic band selection on your EVO LTE until you do a full factory reset. We have posted many times in many other threads not to mess with that band selection menu unless you know fully what you are doing. Others have learned the hard way; you may have, too.

  7. Correct if I'm wrong but I thought GMO sites are not capable of LTE 800 or CDMA 800

Well all the nv towers deployed is capable of CDMA 800 and LTE 800. LTE 800 requires a trip to the base stations but CDMA 800 does not. It can be activated remotely it just requires 911 and interference testing. So it's only a matter of time before the LTE 800 is activated since the shut down of iden.

  8. The problem is in dense areas Sprints LTE is slow from the get go in most hours of the day. Less than 2 mbps down

Well they are starting on 800 and 2.5 now. So by the time the 1900 LTE starts to get slow their will be 800 and 2.5 will be online. People like me that has the first generation of LTE devices (evo lte, s3, viper, etc) will be up for upgrade and can choose from tri band devices.

  9. I'm talking about the Ocala, Fl area. They had 3 towers accepted with LTE and none have been on in weeks. The newest one was a 4G only tower and it was accepted Monday and went live today. Site omitted

Which tower went live today? Was it in Jacksonville Proper or metro? I'm a sponsor and didn't see anything on any of the interactive maps. Has it been officially reported? Sent from my Sprint iPhone 5, not the old one (using Tapatalk 2).

  10. I know all of these are just scams and they make it look like a amazing deal but I'm saying it helps in a way with people that have phones that does not hold good value like my EVO LTE. HTC phones are notorious for not holding there value so for me it would be damned if I did do the upgrade plan or damned if I just sold my phone and paid the $400. I don't do used phones or refurbished because I have had way to many problems with them in the past.

  11. None of these are really a good deal, since you have to return the device.  Sell your device through Craiglist, and buy whatever you want without the extra fees.

That's not always a good idea. My HTC EVO LTE only goes for $200-230 on craigslist meaning I would still have to pay $400 or so to get a new phone that way. If Sprint had something like Tmobile where I could trade in my evo and get new customer price for my new phone I would save a lot more money

  12. If you read the majority of complaints that people have with Sprint, it is not about the voice reception issue but the data issues.  With the explosion in smartphones and mobile data usage, the Sprint haters all complain about the slow 3G speeds that have plagued the network for a couple years.  Its no secret that Sprint has neglected upgrading their backhaul on its Sprint towers from T1 to fiber until now while the other major carriers have spent the time to do so.

I think also since smartphones have become a big part of our daily lives that we use to get information, take pictures, watch video, etc people want to be able to do these activities quicker and slow data speeds won't cut it.  If Sprint had decent 3G speeds and did not have LTE rolled out in their area, the outcries would not be as bad since all we want to do is be able to browse the internet and watch video without buffering.  Luckily I have Wimax to hold me over until I can get a LTE phone but I feel for those customers who got a Wimax phone and never got Wimax rolled out in their area and have to deal with slow Sprint 3G.  I know things are slowly looking better as Network Vision gets rolled out all over the country but it just takes time and for some the waiting has gone over their threshold where they can't stand it anymore.

You summed this up perfectly dude. Perfect
