  1. I have a brand new Pixel 3 XL that will just not activate on the Sprint network.

I have now tried 3 (brand new) SIM cards - both SIMOLW416TQ & SIMGLW416TQ which are supposed to be compatible.  After a full factory reset the phone recognizes that it has a Sprint SIM card and prompts to download the relevant apps but the setup ends there...

I keep getting the pop message that "SIM card has locked. Please Power cycle the device" and in the Android notifications I keep seeing the message "SPRINT DM: Configuring Mobile Network" but it keeps failing and after 5 retrys the network strength icon in the top status bar on the phone goes away...

Phone was originally purchased at Verizon but is unlocked, passes the Sprint IMEI check, etc. & I just confirmed it activates no problems (in 5-10 seconds) on AT&T, Verizon & Xfinity Mobile (for which I have active SIMs that I tried).

    Any suggestions?  Please help!  Thanks!

  2. And you probably really had zero bars of LTE. Either two signal strength indicators is needed or they should have it switch to read LTE signal strength when a LTE connection is made.

yeah, they need to sort out the signal strength meter problem ASAP or customers are going to be really upset...

  3. So true. Until LTE is rolled out on every site in a market, there is going to be mass confusion about LTE performance. People are going to wonder what the problem is when they think they have full bars of LTE that is pulling down less than 3Mbps. They are going to assume that Sprint is already experiencing LTE congestion. When in reality they just have a really weak LTE signal and just have no idea that it's weak because they have full bars in their strength indicator.

I am constantly having to explain this over and over. I am going into detail about it in my Waco FIT article so I will have a reference doc to refer people to about it.

Yes, it might get ugly and Sprint might once again get a really bad rap for it. I got my first LTE connection (on SGS3) this Saturday during my kids soccer games in Gilberts (NW Suburb of Chicago). Full bars showing 4g connection - and let's just say the performance was a bit underwhelming!

  4. There hasn't been much progress? Are you sure? Note that our weekly updates show sites that Sprint has accepted as complete from Network Vision OEM's. There are still hundreds of workers working on sites and things are still progressing. Chicago is flying compared to other markets. They are closing in on 50% of sites converted. Way more than any other.

If close to 50% of the sites have been converted then why has Sprint not announced the Chicago market yet? I thought a market was announced around the 30-40% range?? They could at least light up the LTE towers that are converted and sitting idle (running 3G only).

  5. My upgrade eligibility is ticking down on my Evo Shift as each day goes by. I may just hold out until I'm eligible for my upgrade and then cancel the Shift, and hippie they transfer the upgrade to my Viper, and then I can get the iPhone LTE in December. And yes I still plan on getting a Galaxy S 3 next month using my friends upgrade, lol.

FYI - latest info is that iPhone5 will be announced 9/12 and released later in September. I suspect this is the main reason why sprint just lowered the current iphone prices by $50 - trying to get rid of inventory before new model is announced.

  6. Of all the new hot androids coming out u gonna get a fruit phone lol that's the best part of America freedom of choice :)

Not for sure yet, obviously have to wait and see the specs on the new JesusPhone... I'm no apple fanboy but I've had both iOS and Android and its clear to me that everything just WORKS on the iPhone... all the apps are smoother, the integration with other devices/services is better... all around a better expericence (for me anyways). they just need to up the damn screen size!

  7. My wife has had similar issue's on her Epic 4G Touch (GS2), though not as bad as my old Epic.

I'm considering upgrading to the S3, but the fears of poor reception and non-functioning GPS (I have to restart phone to even have a chance of my GPS working, while the wife's Epic Touch takes forever to get lock ons, sometimes requires phone restarts) has me hesitating.

I think I'm going to wait till the LTE network is fully turned on in the Chicago area (and hear reports of how it works) and then perhaps get the new iPhone 5 which is supposed to have LTE and be released sometime around Sept/Oct.

  8. why are chicagoans getting so cocky lately, youre not even listed in the first round of deployments and all I keep reading is panicky petes wondering when they are getting turned on..

i wouldn't call it cocky - more like totally frustrated and pissed of since Sprint 3g service in Chicago has been total crap for the last year at least... i went months not being able to even send a MMS due to the horrible data speeds, and on top of it, now we have to put up with the constant dropped calls due to the hardware compatibility issues... so yeah, we are quite sick of Sprint in Chicago and this LTE/NV deployment can't come soon enough....

  9. i swear to god if 1 more person asks when chicago's LTE is getting turned on, im going to go randy quaid on some of yous.

haha - my question wasn't about "chicago" per say, I know some areas of Chicago (which is a huge market) are done and I was just curious if they would turn it on "piece by piece" instead of waiting for the whole enchilada to be complete before flipping the switch... I'm sure this same question could apply to other, larger markets...

  10. I live in this area as well (Hampshire - corner of Big Timber & Rt. 72/Higgins) - have seen a slight improvement in data speed but its still not that great. Last 6+ months have been absolutely horrible in this area - virtually zero upload speed (absolutely no way to send picture mail, upload pic to facebook, etc.). I'm glad they are making this area a priority...

So, does this mean that LTE is up and running in the 90 corridor in the NW Chicago Burbs? If so I'll be lining up for the new EVO and wife will get my 4s!
