Gotta reset my phone once again, was waiting to reinstall the beta until the next update but I can't stand this damn notification to download the update. So have to unregister again, just when I had my phone how I wanted it.

Anyone been able to actually download the beta? I've been registered for a couple days now and nothing.  Thanks

It can't be pushed as a profile update to my knowledge. It has to be either built into the OS, or it can be released as an app that is cryptographically signed with the same certificate that signed the SIM card: https://source.android.com/devices/tech/config/carrier

The My Sprint app could be used for example if Sprint uses the same certificate as the SIM, but I don't believe that they do. They could just release a new app called something like Sprint VoLTE Enabler and it would enable VoLTE on any device running Android 6.0 and up (assuming they filed FCC recertification for it). But any device running 6.0 and up has the software already to do Sprint VoLTE, since they've moved to a standard implementation. Sprint just has to enable it and get it recertified...

Great, thank you for the explanation!

VoLTE shouldn't take up a lot of space. Since Sprint is using the standard implementation now, there's no new software. It's just a text file with a few lines with the config info. Realistically shouldn't take more than a few KB.

So minus the GUI changes to show volte instead of calling plus, are you saying that the actual implementation to switch over to volte can come in the form of a profile update?  i.e. to change the APN and such?

    Thanks

Thank you, and for whoever asked earlier I will point out that there is no volte in this update.  This might have been rather obvious given the update size but still its always possible.  I guess we keep on keepin on waiting :)

No VoLTE that I can see.

Yup, no VoLTE I can confirm.  I do have a question though.  The last galaxy I had before my s9 was the s2 so I am not too familiar with how their baseband radio updates work.  For the s9 does the baseband version change every time there is a system update regardless if there is actually new radio firmware?  The reason I ask is because every security update we get the baseband version changes but the update size seems too small to contain radio firmware too.  I used htc phones for the past 6 years or so and the baseband version would only change when there was new radio firmware.

I'm enjoying VoLTE on T-mo prepaid as well - very nice and I might be joining my fiancè's Framily plan once Sprint rolls it out. Didn't realize how nice it is to browse while on speakerphone after having Sprint for ten years.

I find it odd that the overall vibe of the letter above is negative - it doesn't state that an alternative is rolling out that will be superior to Calling Plus. This might anger a lot of people that don't know that VoLTE is coming. Seems like it could have been written better to avoid angry customer service calls.

Totally agree with your vibe statement.  FYI I was born and raised in endwell lol

Yeah. It's really bad. I'm not getting b41 until I'm right on the tower. This update came with a dud radio baseband.

It seems to be back to normal now that I did a profile update and changes the band priorities back to the way I had them and rebooted.  Once it caught b41 it now stays on it like normal.

Has anyone else noticed that b41 is not kicking in as often with the new update??

I have.  Didn't really think much of it until you said something too but yeah at home where I'm right next to a b41 clear site and always on it I've been stuck on a weak b26 signal.  Same symptoms at work too which is downtown I am not on b41 like I used to be

I'm using Hulu through the Sprint service. I haven't gotten a notice like that. Have you tried hulu / Sprint support to see if your account really has been canceled? I did get one when I switched from the commercial free plan to the Sprint free plan, but that was a while ago.

Ha.. look at this.  The next day I got this email from Hulu.

  10. Anyone who has the free hulu streaming service with Sprint get one of these emails lately?  I did not cancel it and my bill is always up to date.  Just curious, thanks!

    Hi Dean,

This is a confirmation that your Hulu subscription will be canceled on 09/24/2018. Until then, you can keep enjoying all the Hulu you want.

  11. 3xCA?

The Clearwire converted tower near my house went from 1 carrier to 3 last week and while I know there are now 3 carriers I am not sure if all 3 are aggregated, not sure if sprint is starting to roll this out but I got over 200mbps many times!! I ran another speed test yesterday and this is what i got!

It is a change in the download to upload timeslot ratio on B41. Config 2 changes max speeds on B41 to 108 mbps down and 9 mbps up.

Great! thank you both.  I knew Sprint adjusted their timing to cater more towards download speeds in some areas, I did not know what the config 1 and 2 meant.  I appreciate it.  I am assuming that those new down/up speeds are while 2xCA?

Yep. Many Nokia / Ericsson and Samsung markets run Config 2 now.

Could someone explain to me what config 2 means or point me in the right direction to a thread to read up on it please?  Thank you!

Not sure if it is related but yesterday late afternoon through the evening I had very unreliable data on b41 most of the time not working at all.

  14. Good news for those of you in Houston. Sprint has finally thinned out 3G on the PCS band. They have shut off EVDO channels 725 and 775 in favor of a second LTE carrier (1965-1970 MHz). They've also done some optimization where LTE is now going in deeper into buildings and holding on even longer (looks like they lowered the qrxlevmin).

I'm disappointed it took them over a year and a half after San Antonio did this. But impressed nonetheless. I guess Calling+ is about to see a massive push.

This is such great news!! thanks for sharing.  Unfortunately I damaged my htc 10 sunday and im waiting for the replacement one to come in... :( so i dont get to take advantage of this change.  Hopefully it will be in today!! if not... with the storming coming in i doubt i will get it until like wednesday.

Quick question.  Were they able to do this because of the swap with ATT?

    Thanks again!!

  15. Another OTA!

Looks like another ota just dropped this morning.  Less than 100mb in size its likely for the fingerprint reader issue.  I currently dont have my 10, its being replaced by sprint but here is a what firmware is updated in this OTA.
