Dish moving into the Black Hills of South Dakota.......have seen 3 permits so far. Also, their are 5 NB-IOT sites that were put in back in 2019 that were basically part of a spectrum hold promise. I assume these sites will be transitioned as well.

Okay, we are up to 10 sites in Rapid City/Pennington County. Spoke with Pennington County Planning and Zoning and she expects more to come. Haven't checked the remainder of the Black Hills yet, but assume a similar situation. Also includes the NB-IOT sites which I assume are being transitioned as opposed to a new rack for just the cellular portion.

Band 2 5x5 is standard across the city. And usually you can find CA with either band 12 5x5 or band 71 10x10. I dont know if band 71 has always been 10x10 or if its because of that leasing deal with dish. I just got back 2 days ago so I haven't been able to test the network before the lease with dish. The coverage is actually very decent. My job has me driving all over the city all day and I always have a strong signal. The speed is just awful. Its encouraging that the signal is good because all they need now is some more bandwidth/capacity and they'll be good to go.

Once they add that Band4/66 layer you will definitely see a difference in speeds.

That's a great question.  There has been talk about the options that will happen with Shentel market.  Nothing about Swiftel.  Since Swiftel is actually Brookings Municipal Utilities and not a private company, it will likely be a very different scenario.  We just don't really know anything at this point.

Other than Sioux Falls and Brookings, T-Mobile definitely has the better South Dakota network though.  Hopefully they will be merged.

    Robert

Yes, this should be very very interesting. They definitely need the spectrum and Brookings needs actual T-Mobile coverage. Would also help out Sioux Falls immensely and maybe you would actually see stores finally. They are dragging their feet in that market on stores and judging from the comment from Camcroz, I can see why. I am sure that the Band 12/Band 71 additions at least helped, but once again they definitely need Band 4 to give it a stronger base.

So does anyone know what's gonna happen with swiftel now that the merger got approved. I have tmobile and the service is awful in sioux falls. Will swiftel continue to broadcast signal under the tmobile name or will tmobile take them over.

T-Mobile needs to add Band 4 in Sioux Falls. Can you tell us what the Band layering looks like - IE-Band 12 5x5, Band 71 etc.....that would be great. I am out in Rapid City.

  5. Just thought I would chime in with a report from Rapid City SD. There has been movement on the Sprint front over the past couple of months. We have approvals for 2 new sites in the city. Site 1 is a brand new tower at 611 Lindbergh Ave at the GoodWill off from Haines Ave. Site 2 is a co-location with the other 3 on the tower at 3305 S Valley Dr. Fairly certain Sprint Spectrum is broadcasting from 5 other sites in the city as well, but don't have a way to double check at this point. Lots of movement again from T-Mo so my hands are full there. If I see any more Sprint activity, I will advise.

  6. There was site maintenance done today or the course of a month of my market seriously I think they're about ready to launch 600 here.

In this are 600mhz has been cleared for quite some time so they do the site upgrade and antennas at the same time and launch. It may be that they are getting the site ready, then when it's time they will just add the antennas and launch. T-Mobile is known for doing that.

  7. I appreciate that.

Okay, here we go. 2nd set of equipment. Here is what it looks like. This site was originally 5mhz Band 4 and 5mhz Band 12. It is now 5mhz Band 2, 5mhz Band 4, 5mhz Band 12 and 10mhz Band 71. This tower is in Rapid City SD on Haines Ave.3e0a0c4a4b75fede18d703b99f5447cf.jpg

  8. So those super wide antennas being swapped out?
That seems to be the case. When you see those super wide antennas, they are adding Band 71. At least that is how it has worked around here. I think you said you are in Colorado? I know they are doing work down there currently.

  9. Oh ok.  The current antennas are the all in one's. It looked like I saw then hoisting up another antenna.  I will look later in the day.  Wow should I switch to t mo now i wonder?
Those antennas are super WIDE. They have been upgrading my area (Western South Dakota) over the past couple months and should be fully complete by end of December. Of course I also monitor NE Wyoming which has been LIVE since the beginning of this year. The 600mhz does make a difference for sure. Also mutiple new sites going up so it's a very exciting time for T-Mo in this area. First stores opened a year ago in August.

  10. If the merger happens, I wonder what will happen to Sprint's roaming agreements.  Several places I go I get LTE roaming or even 1x/CDMA from VZW.  If those agreements go away I will end up with No Service as it currently stands.  [emoji20]

That's a great question....however, a year from now 1x/CDMA will no longer exist on Verizon as they will be the first pure LTE network after they shut down 3G. Should make their current roaming agreements very interesting.

  11. Greetings everyone. Finally reporting from the Black Hills of South Dakota and Northern Wyoming. T-Mobile has done a rock solid job in Wyoming. All mapped on Cellmapper. Only hole is at Sundance, however, a site looks like it's coming there. This gives solid T-Mobile coverage on I-90 from the South Dakota/Wyoming border through Gillette and beyond. Will map sites beyond and across to Sheridan WY after the Sturgis motorcycle rally. In South Dakota, 600mhz is here. Black Hawk SD site was upgraded yesterday. Catron Blvd site is scheduled next-LIVE date is showing 22AUG18. Keystone and Wall are also scheduled for August. Expect many more to come.  The Golden West tower in Sturgis that T-Mobile was using as a temp tower during the rally is being upgraded to a full suite permanent site. Band 2/4/12 like the other tower in Sturgis. Rapid City has been promised 4 new sites by EOY. I expect them sooner. Will advise when I know more. Things are hopping and Sprint is now in the mix as well. It's a great time for this area.
UPDATE-Catron Blvd and Keystone sites completed. Not yet broadcasting Band 71. Assume Wall has been competed as well. Will check later this week.

  12. I went through that area just a month ago and coverage wasn't that great for where I went and which was also around Sundance so I unfortunately have to switch myself out to AT&T

In Wyoming you have to have a Band 71 phone for certain as sites are Band 4 and Band 71. Going to be similar here soon if you want the BEST experience.

Not Swiftel.  It's not in their market.  You can tell by the Cascade ID.  It would have BK in place of XC or XD.  And for those wondering, BK stands for Brookings.  As in Brookings Municipal Utilities.  The legal owner of Swiftel is the City of Brookings.  Swiftel is just a brand name that use to for their communications networks.  It really is a City Utility that formed a Sprint affiliate.  If Swiftel were a private company it probably would have been purchased by Sprint long ago.

Hello Robert. Getting to this post EXTREMELY LATE. Found a Golden West/Sprint permit back in June for the site on Skyline Drive. It's titled SPRINT PROJECT RURAL LICENSE PROTECTION. It shows 800mhz and 1900mhz going on that site. Also, if you have a phone with BAND 25/26 and you search Networks, Sprint is now showing up as an option. I applied for a SPRINT account but had to call in for additional info. They want me to come in with 2 forms of ID to prove my identity. Hmmm, a bit difficult. May head to Cheyenne as many T-Mo sites are not yet mapped. Will advise when I do and will do some tracking here. My other tracking is ramping up exponentially as they are finally fixing their mistake. Posting in other forum on that. Hope all is well. Take care.
