Wasn't aware Sprint had coverage in Jamaica and Cuba.
Isaac.. No delays there. Maybe Laplace and Plaquemines Parish for a week or two. Flip over to another tower and come back to those.
The hurricane thing was just an excuse. And would have only been at the most a few days delay as crews got out of the way but I don't think they had started in the New Orleans market then anyways.
They still haven't started in Baton Rouge almost 2 months after the hurricane happened and to be honest it really wasn't that much of a hurricane event.

What about that weird derecho thing that hit DC a few months back? Could they be blaming it on that?

What is keeping all the 3G only sites not being switched to 3G/4G?
-
This has been reported by several members today. It sounds like the Bahstin 4G core may be down.
Robert via Nexus 7 using Forum Runner
Don't you mean the Noo Yahk core is down?

We have an iOS app that shows the maps and has the speed test stuff.
But apple doesn't provide apis for collecting signal strength and, although we have found some hidden APIs, they wouldn't be allowed on the appstore
You could put something out through cydia once a jailbreak is formed for iOS 6

Any idea when the list is going to be updated? What percent complete are we at for Boston? these last 2 updates should have put that % up higher

So the Springfield area has some LTE sites? Cool, I didn't think this area was on the face of this earth. Chicopee, Holyoke, , et are just a few miles from . Lots of happy people come d day.
Also the LTE core is in Springfield that's why it was one of the first places to get LTE. Otherwise I agree I wouldn't have expected it either. I would have assumed that western ma would have been on the end of the Boston rollout
-
Not west of Springfield, yet. The Pittsfield area will be one of the last parts converted in the Boston market.
Robert
There's a reason it's called PITTSfield

Does a sale at the apple store count towards the number of units sprint needs to sell in their contact?
-
Plus it isn't as easy as swapping a sim card. You need to do a baseband unlock to remove carrier restrictions that come on the phone. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't that same methodology apply to LTE? I have the 4S on sprint and my friend has it on Verizon. I swapped our sim cards and it did nothing. I can take the sim card out and the phone is still useable. I do understand that it has nothing to do with 3G though.

Easy answer with established precedent. Cricket does not offer the iPhone 4/4S in AWS only markets; Cricket will likely not offer the iPhone 5 either in those markets.
It really is a "fustercluck," but Apple always seems to yank the carriers' chains, especially those carriers that are not among Apple's chosen few (read: any domestic carrier other than AT&T). Honestly, the wireless industry would have been better off if the iPhone had never existed.
AJ
Booo hiss! If the iPhone hadn't come out where would smart phones be right now? We would be stuck with either crappy windows mobile or ever glitchy palm phones. The iPhone made everyone step up their game and created a now highly competitive market of smart phones. Now if they'd only add gorilla glass to their phones so they don't shatter so easily *types with shards of glass in fingers*

so even though they've combined cdma and lte on one chip, they can't get SVDO on there?
-
Does this mean it might be possible, if you bought a Verizon or Sprint iPhone 5, to one day take it to the other carrier and have it activated? Not that I'd want to do that, or even that I'd want an iPhone 5. Just curious.
Yes if you can get the prior service provider to unlock the phone from its network restrictions. Theres also a device you can use with the 4S to unlock the phone for any carrier in the world, its just a different sim card tray

My old job allowed me to use my cell during work as long as I wasn't on the phone, which sometimes could be for about an hour. Having the iphOne on AT&T was the best, being able to look up movie times and make reservations while on the phone with a friend. I'm excited for it to start showing up in more sprint phones. Hopefully the new iPhone will finally bring it over to CDMA networks.

Today at the corner of Cabot st andRantoule st in Beverly there was 4g on my moms viper. Pissed I forgot to install a speed test we drove away before I could

At MGH today and useable data 95ms ping 1.2 Mbps up .65 down
-
I was only joking. My mom just got a phone with texting and learned how to use it a few months ago. She's not ready for a smartphone yet.
Her og Evo died and they have her the viper for free I'm totally jealous. She only uses it for wOrds with friends and Facebook.
-
Did she get the tower info from CDMA field test or Net Monitor? How many speed tests did she run? And did she snap some pictures of the RRU's on the tower she was connecting to?
She called me to ask why it said 4G... You think she knows any of this lol. I'm going over later an taking her phone out to her work and I'll try myself
-
Yahoo! My mother just called me and asked why it keeps flashing 4g on her viper. She works in Lynn ma. Maybe it's testing or it coming live idk but confirmed LTE l! Also eHRPD in swampscott the other day.

Robert, do you know why Sprint chooses to build from the outside-in on its major cities?
They do this so that not a large number of subscribers are affected if something goes wrong as the teams are learning what they're doing. As one of those trial towers were in my area, I'm glad they did that and screwed up in my small town versus the city. It was atrocious for about 2 weeks. I'd either not be able to make/receive calls, send out texts or when I could they wouldn't go to the person for a couple hours. The data was tolerable before they started upgrading, but during the upgrade I would constantly be on the 1x network, sometimes for days. But data is immensely better now, if you check out the article Robert wrote about the Beverly MA tower which I tested and investigated for him. Such a vast improvement! I forget that I'm being spoiled with upgraded 3G in my area, when I leave the area and it sucks I think it's my phone but nope it's the network. Glad they are finally moving into the city as well, luckily the areas I hang out at in Boston are right around upgraded 3G towers, so it doesn't seem any different.
-
Why do you think no Boston? Because they have only one LTE tower and less than 10 3G towers upgraded in Boston proper?
-
I forgot my friend works at the Sprint store next to the LTE site on 114 in Danvers. Now that I've given him the info he said he would pay closer attention now and check their devices more often now and let me know when they connect.
I have an EVO LTE and I have been to most of the sites Robert listed as 4g but nothing in my LTE record on my phone yet

Where abouts are you, and do you have an LTE device? I'm waiting til it starts to go live until I go get my hotspot.
That is a good a guess as any. I can't wait as I live in the Boston market and the tower that hits my house has already been converted with both 3g and 4g but I am not able to connect yet.
-
but im asking, if backhaul is conncected, is it as easy as a flip of a switch or require a team to go out and do something
-
They put it in the new iPad, no way they wouldnt put it in the new iphone

I was the only one of my friends who had a useable Internet connection on LTE. I let them all message someone who had an iPhone to let them know that we were okay because only iMessage was working. No calls in or out and no texts went out but did come in. I guess I can thank the fact that sprints LTE network isn't crowded like AT&T and Verizon's are.
