  1. Watched the Jason Bourne movie this weekend and noticed all iPhones used had Sprint LTE Service when they got texts while in the US, anyone else noticed?

I know all us S4GRU nerds really want to know is if he used SignalCheck Pro to see if he was on B41 getting 2xCA or 3xCA LTE.

  2. They would actually have to quadruple it to match the new T-Mobile's One+  256 kbps international

roaming speeds. Regardless, you should tweet that to Marcelo. Couldn't hurt.

Actually I would love to see Sprint surpass Tmobile by offering 384 kbps or 512 kbps international roaming speeds.  But I would hope at the very least match the 256 kbps international roaming speeds like Tmobile One+ plans.

  3. You do realize their rebanding deadline is Jan '17 right

I absolutely do know that it is the deadline but who the hell is going to hold them accountable? What happens if they don't meet their deadline?  The FCC in the past has shown leniency time and time again.

By the way, I used to think that was the deadline but if you see the agreement below it doesn't say anything that it has to be done by then.  Its just means that there is no incentive after Jan 2017 but it seems like SB county doesn't give a rip about incentives anyway.

Recommendation No. 1 will authorize Amendment No. 5 to revenue Agreement No. 08-1221 with reimbursement by Nextel to increase by $7,606,071, from $850,297 to $8,456,358, for costs related to the 800 MHz rebanding project and revise contract language to reflect a project change from system re-tuning to system upgrade and an incentive payment of up to $450,000 if all frequencies are cleared by certain target dates. The contract requires the County to represent that the cost and time to perform the upgrade will not exceed the cost and time to re-tune. The significant increase is a result of assessments and discussions between the parties in an effort to establish the total cost to reconfigure the airwave frequencies of the County’s radio system. AGREEMENTS FOR 800 MHZ RADIO REBANDING PROJECT WITH NEXTEL AND MOTOROLA SEPTEMBER 15, 2015 PAGE 3 OF 4 27 These costs are comprised of time and materials for reprogramming radios and re-tuning radio transmission equipment. In lieu of re-tuning the system, A&E will receive a lump sum total amount of $8,456,358, payable in two installments ($3,815,075 within 30 days after the execution of Amendment No. 5 and submission of supporting invoices, and $4,471,224 within 30 days after the reconciliation date) to reimburse the radio upgrade project fund for radio and system upgrades in lieu of rebanding efforts. A separate payment of up to $450,000 in incentives will be made by Nextel if all frequencies are cleared by certain target dates as follows: (a) for desert frequencies, Nextel will pay $200,000 if these frequencies are cleared by June 30, 2016; the incentive decreases to $150,000 if these frequencies are cleared by August 15, 2016, the incentive further decreases to $100,000 if these frequencies are cleared by October 15, 2016; and no incentive is payable if these frequencies are cleared after October 15, 2016; and ( B) for non-desert frequencies, $250,000 if these frequencies are cleared on the later of September 15, 2016 (if unblocked) or 3 months after notice to proceed is received from Nextel (if blocked); $200,000 if these frequencies are cleared on the later of November 15, 2016 (if unblocked) or 5 months after notice to proceed is received from Nextel (if blocked); $150,000 if these frequencies are cleared on the later of January 15, 2017 (if unblocked) or 5 months after notice to proceed is received from Nextel (if blocked); and no incentive is payable if these frequencies are cleared after January 15, 2017 (if unblocked) or 5 months after notice to proceed is received from Nextel (if blocked). Nextel has already paid $170,059 under the Agreement. Upon project completion, the parties will reconcile actual upgrade costs. In addition to the reimbursement, the following ISD vendors, Motorola, Day Wireless, and the County’s outside counsel, Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker will also receive payments under Amendment No. 5 directly from Nextel.
  4. I would hope their whole network would be flooded with B26 by then.

Nope ain't gonna happen.  San Bernardino county won't allow it since they are very inefficient.  They work slower than any organization in the world.  My guess is that So Cal won't get B26 LTE for another 1-2 years.

  5. As part of the agreement, there was also a waiver to short-space 26-27 Sprint (Nextel) sites. Hopefully these sightings go beyond those sites. (p. 88 of the 5th Amendment to Frequency Reconfiguration Agreement.)

Do u have a link to that frequency reconfiguration agreement?

  6. I would like to see B25 + B26 CA together on Sprint when the next LTE release is made available.  Unfortunately B26 LTE by itself is way too slow to be optimal and gives customers a very bad impression.

Tmobile does B4 + B12 CA and I think it has worked out well.  I don't know how the propagation characteristics work out when you combine low band and mid band spectrum.  Does the LTE signal have the propagation as if it is low band, mid band or in between?

  7. Dang....why so long

Sprint is not even close to being ready to launch VoLTE nationwide.  The Sprint LTE network still needs lots and lots of work before even considering VoLTE.  Once Sprint has a tens of thousands of small cells up and running as well as upgrading as many macro sites with all 3 LTE bands can they start to think about VoLTE.

  8. Any word on when Band 26 will be available finally in Southern California?

Not any time soon. I fully expect SB county to wait until the deadline before rebanding but who knows what happens if they dont meet their deadline yet again. The FCC has been way too lenient on SB county and needs to enforce very harsh penalties for not adhering to their agreements.

  9. Oops didn't see OP's location and assumed IBEZ. You're correct this doesn't impact LA.

I think earliest I've heard for SBC rebranding completion is mid 2017. Don't quote me on that.

The latest sprint and SB county agreement is that everything needs to be rebanded by end of Jan 2017 with no incentives. SB county already missed the boat on the june 2016 incentives.

  10. My sanity came back when I switched. I have never seen 3g since the day I switched and I could actually hear the person on the other end of the call. Plus, my price is 2/3 of sprint's plan which is nice.

I dont blame ya. Sprint has still not been able to deploy 800 mhz CDMA and LTE for the most part thanks to SB county. So Cal desperately needs that 7x7 sliver of 800 mhz spectrum to deploy a 5x5 LTE and a CDMA carrier to help with coverage indoors and to provide some additional capacity for data and voice. Having CDMA 800 deployed on every tower everywhere will help sprint to consider shutting down some CDMA carriers to free up more spectrum for LTE.

  11. Marcelo had said at the quarter call that there's going to be a price hike around September How much of a hike? Who knows. But if this holds true I can imagine the plans that are capable of signing 2 year contracts will be no more or they just may remove the option all together but you can keep the plan.

See that is the problem. Instead of trying to find ways to screw the current loyal customers they need to find ways after the 50% off promo ends to attract new customers and/or convince current customers why its a better idea to switch to the newer plans.

  12. It's a work in progress but as Sprint joined in the spectrum swapping party years after the others began a lot of the juicy big metro areas are already realigned for the other three.

Once again Sprint was late to the party and missed out on a great opportunity for realignment on their main spectrum band.  I guess I attribute that to the poor Sprint management with Hesse or Claure for not thinking ahead.

  13. Because they're mandated by the NYC to be stealth setups. You will not see them unless you specifically know their locations or track them down somehow (pretty hard in the super urban zones like NYC). Most you'll see is a can antenna.

So in these can antennas, are the RRUs, microwave backhaul, etc all inside the can antennas.  Where are the guts of a small cell setup like they are doing with Mobilite in LA Metro?

  14. There are devices that don't support 1X Advanced over 800 MHz SMR?

Sprint has been selling 1xAdvanced devices since 2011 really.  Even the old Wimax devices had 1xAdvanced on them.  To me, I would expect the majority of phones that exist on the Sprint network currently should be 1xAdvanced capable.  I feel that it is time for Sprint to start imploring the full 1xAdvanced capabilities especially for capacity purposes so that more spectrum is freed up for LTE.

  15. With how large the LA Metropolitan area is it could be anything really but little birds have sung of a Nokia / Alcatel-Lucent third carrier launch late summer so EARFCN shenanigans like above may be a part of the "process" that's going on.

Hopefully by Oct, LA Metro/OC will start seeing 3xCA launches in the market because they desperately need the extra capacity since they are not able to deploy 800 MHz yet and I still can't figure out if LA Metro has started deploying a 2nd 5x5 PCS LTE.  The deployment of massive small cell effort would really help.  Sprint has improved a ton with NYC and Chicago but it seems LA Metro speeds remain pretty dismal overall and the rootmetrics prove that against the other 3 carriers.

  16. I haven't noticed any problems with calls. What part of town are you having these problems?

Not to say nothing else is happening with B25, but B25 improved when Sprint added a 2nd Carrier and made some coverage adjustments at roughly the same time.

I see the B25^2 indicators sometimes in LA but i cant tell that it has provided more LTE capacity at B25. Either way LA needs to be one of the top priorities for Sprint since their coverage and speeds are still severly lacking. Hopefully sprint is working hard at deploying small cells and new macro sites since they desperately need both.
