  1. I've had my GS3 for a day and can report that the battery is a beast. Then again, I haven't exactly been spoiled having come from an OG EVO and a GNEX for a day.

  2. My Nexus has been fine since I purchased it on the 25th. At first I was pretty upset that the phone didn't arrive in Knoxville til the 25th, but in my opinion it was worth it. I don't seem to have the data bug, everything seems fine. My last Stock experience was the G2X, and it was not good at all. But I held my lip and went for the GNEX and it was worth it.

I wished mine worked. Right after I said I didn't have the data bug, I get the data bug. I tried updating profile, PRL, rebooting, toggling data on and off, and my data was out the whole morning. The sprint guy couldn't even figure it out.

I really wanted that phone, but I didn't want to take a chance and get another one that had the same problem, so I just went with the GS3. I like the look of the Nexus better, but I need the phone to work. The GS3's body is so slick and slippery, I need to get a case ASAP. On the bright side, I noticed right off the bat that the battery is much better.

Oh, and they did charge me a restocking fee which I don't think is fair, I just got the phone yesterday and it clearly didn't work.

  3.

    I knew you would. LOL

The verizon extended battery is the same thing as sprint except for the battery cover that comes with it. You can use the stock battery cover, but it fits rather tight.

I'm just glad it's over! I've been thinking about my next phone since the last android update made my OG EVO slow and laggy. I was waiting on the new EVO, the GS3, or the new photon. I read everything about every new phone from every site. Didn't want a fixed battery, a physical keyboard, and after my experience with the NS4G, didn't really want a manufacturer skin.

So galaxy nexus it is, along with its crappy radio and battery! Because plain android and jellybean!

  4. I'm late, but I just picked one up today despite the reports of poor radios and bad battery life. The radios seem fine, but I can confirm it's a battery hog. Maybe the battery needs to be broken in. I'm definitely picking up the sprint version of the extended battery when it's available in August.

I wanted to like the GS3, but couldn't get past the home button, shiny look, and touchwiz.

Can't wait for Jellybean, especially after using the nexus 7!

  5. I wouldn't get the GNexus, it has too many bugs and a poor signal performance. I have two of them, awful phones.

I would consider the EVO, I have yet try that phone though.

Too late, picked one up today. Couldn't resist the $100 price plus $50 Google wallet credit. This phone was $300 6 months ago. So far so good. I can't do manufacturer skins anymore, so my only options were either keep the NS4G, wait for the next nexus, or free GNEX with NS4G trade.

If the next nexus is unbelievable, I'll just use the mother in law's upgrade. :)

  6. The new nexus may come out in November but who knows when sprint will get it. For what it's worth, the galaxy nexus is now $100 on Sprint with a $50 Google wallet credit and will have a free extended battery bundle in August:

    http://briefmobile.com/exclusive-sprint-galaxy-nexus-price-to-drop-to-99-99

The question to ask yourself is "outdated" hardware, pure android and latest software vs newest hardware, touchwiz, and outdated software.

Personally, I'm looking beyond the honeymoon period and leaning galaxy nexus in August for $100 with Google wallet credit and free extended battery.

  7. I'm really more concerned with when the Sprint version of the next Nexus phone would be released. The last two Sprint versions were 4 months or so after anyone else got it.

The Galaxy Nexus on Sprint just came out in late April, only 3 months ago, and now it's pretty much free, not a bad deal. Yeah, it's been out for Verizon since last year, but I don't really care about Verizon phones.

  8. With new agreement or renewal of course. This is tempting. They offer $58 for my Nexus S 4G, and $50 Google wallet credit, they're essentially paying me $8 to get the Galaxy Nexus.

Is it worth it to lose my wimax and not have LTE until April? Does this mean that they're clearing inventory for a new Nexus?

  9. Banned.

LOL, the Gamestop in St. Cloud got 1 total Nexus 7 and had more preorders than 1. I called them. I would have paid for a third just to have it yesterday. I am really upset that Google pooped the bed on this, shipping to stores and making preorders wait.

That sucks. I didn't even expect to get one today, I just wanted to get on the list next wave of pre-orders and get my extra credit for trading in the galaxy tab 2 towards the Nexus. He says the galaxy tab I have is worth $150 instead of the $130 they told me on the phone, and oh, by the way we have one Nexus left, do you want it now? Uh, yeah! Deal!

I like it a lot better than the galaxy tab 2 which seemed kind of laggy and it was brand new! That tablet kind of sealed the deal for me as far as swearing off any manufacturer skins.

  10. Walked into gamestop today, they gave me $150 for my 7 inch galaxy tab 2, and walked out with a Nexus 7. I didn't have a pre-order.

  11. I wonder what the new nexus line will be....It seems they drop at years end with old specs.....a quad core Gnex with 2 gigs of ram, 1.9 ff camera will get me to ditch the GS III

And if history is any indicator, sprint won't get it till April 13. I don't want to wait that long.

  12. I think the reason that the Nexus S took so long and all the other CDMA flagships are taking way longer is that GB to ICS was a huge undertaking. One that even Google underestimated when they started upgrading the Nexus S. That is probably why they left the nexus one out of the mix. CyanogenMod just hit release candidate on CM9 on certain phone models. It packs major changes. JB shouldn't be as big of an undertaking. I would expect some of last year's phones to get to JB, but it will be interesting to see which ones made the cut for ICS but not JB.

If JB isn't as much of an undertaking, it seems quite possible that as those flagships from last year move onto ICS, the Nexus S 4G will be getting JB.

Even after reading that Verge article, I still don't know what I want, but the comment about "living with a phone for longer than the honeymoon period" has me leaning again towards the Nexus. I'm almost as excited about getting Jellybean on my stopgap craigslist Nexus S 4G as am about getting a new phone.

  13. Apparently. Until we start placing folks on warning/banning status, some will continue to add meaningless bantar.

Speaking of that article, i found it interesting that it said

And while it may be true to a point, I find it funny that the nexus took a bit longer (time wize) to get updates than what the Sprint Galaxy S3 is getting. So far the S3 is on its 2nd update and this from Sprint who is known to be slow on issuing updates to phones. Granted its not jelly bean but if this is how Sprint is acting now, I welcome it greatly and look forward to it supplying incremental updates as fast as they are doing.

Like I mentioned earlier, the Nexus S 4G has ice cream sandwich, while none of the flagships from last year do. The GS3's predecessor, the Sprint version GS2, is still on gingerbread, and its a newer phone with better specs than the Nexus S 4G.

Scott is riffing on nels0300's avatar of John Goodman's character in "The Big Lebowski." You can figure out the rest...

I wonder if people who haven't seen the movie think that avatar is a picture of me? Lol.

  15. "Do you see what happens, Larry? Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the alps? This is what happens, Larry! This is what happens when you feed a stoner scrambled eggs!"

Lol. I don't remember that part of the movie!

  16. Not to shoot holes in your logic, but the Nexus S was released May 8th 2011, while the HTC Evo 4G was released June 4th 2010.

A more apt comparison might be between the Nexus S and EVO 3D (June 24th 2011) or OG EVO and Nexus One (Jan 5 2010 release)

That's when it was released, but the internals are basically the same as the original Galaxy, which had more or less the same RAM and processor speed as the EVO.

I really love the specs of the GS3, but the fact that the Nexus S4G is still going strong I think proves that software is just as important, if not more important, than the hardware.

I bought the Nexus S 4G to tide me over till my upgrade, but I've really grown to like it. It's way smoother than my glitchy, laggy EVO was.

According to The Verge, there are windows phones coming to Sprint.

    And

"Microsoft just announced four special hardware partners for Windows Phone 8 — Nokia, Huawei, Samsung, and HTC will have Windows Phone 8 devices running on "next generation silicon" from Qualcomm."

I'm going to be waiting forever to upgrade! Was trying to decide between the GNEX vs the Galaxy S3 vs waiting for the next Nexus and now this is thrown into the mix!
