  1. Please in the future use the "Discover" tab when posting from LTE Discovery. The GCI and PCI are the best way we can determine if the app is reporting correctly or not. It appears to be correct in this case based off of the engineering screen you posted. I thought you said Signal Check was reporting incorrectly? As Mrrogers said, it seems to be reporting B41 just like LTE Discovery is.

In other thread discussions, it has been determined that I focused on the wrong info on SpeedCheck..  I focused on the larger type 2500 when I should have read the smaller type under the headline.

    ==================.

I fail to understand how the Discover tab helps or what I should look for or report from that tab.

  2. That is 2 screen shots of LTE discovery, 1 of your Engineering screen and we can see SignalCheck Pro all show B41 which all seem to jive. I thought you said something was reporting wrong?

ETA: I have verified everything matching across the 3 sources on my M9 as well.

Perhaps I misread Signal Check Pro as band 25.  I was focused on the larger type "2500"

I was on cell phone  ....  now that I am on PC add this photo which is what was making me think NO MATCH in terms of band.  I was focused on the larger type "2500"

  4. Could be.  I have been comparing some SignalCheck Pro (pre-upgrade of database) verses LTE Discovery.

LTE Discovery was indicating SPARK active in the notifications and band 41 plus either band 25 or 26.

    SignalCheck showed band 25 only..

  5. one other thing you can do, if you have signal check pro, there was a post in the IA/NE premier thread in the last day or so where a member posted an updated signal check DB. if you import this into signal check pro it will have site notes listed for all of the towers that match up with the "name" column in our spreadsheet. then when you connect to LTE signal check will match the GCI of the connection to the entry in the DB and display the correct site note, that will give you a better idea of what tower you are connected to without having to remember the GCI and go look it up in the spreadsheet.

you can see an example in this screenshot http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/bradmoses/signalcheck%20screens/Screenshot_2014-11-07-11-58-55.png the note matches up to the name column in the IA spreadsheet so i know what tower i was connected to then.

Good to know  Thank you for the tip about Signal Check Pro which I do have.

  6. Should be in your gallery, or the pictures folder once you navigate to your sd card on your PC.

Okay, I found them in the Pictures folder and a subfolder Screenshots on the M9.

hmm Second effort to connect my M9 to my PC.  I am now reading the directories in the M9 itself which did not happen on my first attempt to connect the two.  Thank you for pushing me in the right direction.

Besides the DCIM > Camera directory, there is a second directory Pictures.  There is a subfolder of Screenshots.

For some reason, I also have a few screenshots in the folder for LTE Discovery.

I need to find a way for the pictures directory to write to the SD card instead of the phone itself.

    Again thanks for the nudge.

  7. Okay .. frustration central here.

I am a new purchaser of the M9.  I have learned how to make screen shots of the LTE Discovery, Signal Check and Sensory speedtest screens.

I saw some interesting to me readings and was going to ask about them in the appropriate thread, but I have not been able to find the screenshots on the M9 nor when USB cable to my PC.  I would appreciate some directions how to find my screenshots and how to copy that file folder to my PC without damaging my M9 directory.

    Thank you in advance.

  8. Suggestion box:  There should be a link under the three dots in the upper right below settings to exit the app.  I can find no way to peacefully exit the app.  I can turn it on, but I failed to find a way to turn it off and exit.

    Thank you.

  9. You asked about radio performance as well.  I do not know if it is a fair comparison, but on a couple of recent trips between Omaha and Des Moines, Iowa, I observed the LG G Pad F 7.0  tablet was getting 4G LTE when my HTC One M9 was falling into 3G.

The basis for my observation was LTE Discovery on both devices at the same time.  Often, they were selecting different towers based on the direction of the tower on LTE Discovery.

  10. Since you mention Chicago specifically, here is an independent comparison between four providers done in Chicago last summer: http://blog.laptopmag.com/fastest-4g-lte-chicago

Sprint's answer to your question may be here: http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/sprint-turns-up-the-volume-on-3g-and-4g-lte-in-chicago.htm

Sprint's coverage map makes me say "It depends on where in Chicagoland you are." See their coverage map: http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp?ECID=vanity:coverage

  11. I don't know Ting as well as I know a competitor, but I have read that SPRINT has a "white list" of phones that SPRINT will not allow on third party services called Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) that use Sprint towers for its backbone.   Ting is such a service.  I do not know how the SIM swap may work.  My reply is based on the basic concept of the Sprint "white list"

You would have to check the Ting website to see if they will provide service for an M9.  I found Ting selling HTC m8s but not M9.

IF you are planning on getting the M9 elsewhere check their BYOD page before you spend the money.

I see Ting has GSM service in many areas, you should see if they have it where you want to be.  Ting has been primarily a CDMA operation until this past February.

    • You can capture screenshots by pressing the Home android_Home_1.png key and the Power/Lock key simultaneously until a white border flashes around the edges of the screen. The screenshot will be copied to the clipboard and saved to the Screenshots folder in the Gallery.

    1. To view a screenshot immediately after you capture it, open the Notification Panel by swiping your finger from the top of the screen to the bottom, and touchScreenshot captured. To view your screenshots at any time, from the Home screen, touch Apps icon_Apps_19.png > Gallery Icon_Gallery_3.png > Screenshots.

Understood.  I would think so.  I saw that thread which I read as a "Soon to come" topic.  Who would link this tablet to that thread topic model nomenclature?  Not me.

Most of the devices that I follow here are much clearer in the title about the device being talked about.  That thread from a device name recognition perspective just does not tell me they are the same device.

HTC Ones are broken down by versions for example.  m8  ...m9

  13. I failed to see a device thread for the LG G Pad F 7.0 with Android 5.0 Lollipop, so it is now up for discussion.

I got mine with a white body (also available in black) as part of an upgrade promotion.

The link has a good summary of many features of this tablet and Sprint's offer..  Some earlier versions say they are single LTE bands 25, 26 or 41, but this Sprint offering does say Spark ready on the box.

I really like the QPair app which helps you find your phone from the tablet or the tablet from your phone. Push a spot and the missing device rings.   :D .

It seems to find and switch towers much better than the HTC One m9.  I ran both between Omaha and Des Moines on two separate round trips this past week. I read bands 25, 26  and 41 as I drove along I-80.  There were times this tablet was picking up LTE 26 or 41 and the HTC One m9 was at 3G.  They were about a foot apart when this constantly occurred along the trip.

I did run into a problem with some apps that ran on Android 4.X.X would not tun on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

One example is a photo app that I use for work - Touch Mobile available on the Play Store.

Double Shot -  I was not able to get the video volume up enough to overcome background noise.

When it works, it controls photo size for both still and video operation.  It is really a nice photo app after the learning curve.   For validation, I got better video volume in the same app on a Samsung Tab 2.0.

The speakers are on the back.  Sounds are muffled by the case that I have it it.  If you like sound like music and videos etc, you will want to be selective which case you place it in.

It seems to work well with Sensorly, Signal Check and LTE Discovery.  Park this puppy in your lap if you in the Co-Pilot seat.   I ran all three of them with the unit plugged into the car charge without an issue.

I recommend you do any app download and install via a good Wi-Fi connection.

CAUTION:  Sprint delivers it on a ONE GIG data plan unless you place it on the Sprint Family share pack or some other data plan.  IMO the data plan is expensive unless you can access Wi-Fi easily to keep your data plan usage down.  But in a pinch, you do have the data plan usage available when Wi-Fi just is not available.  IMO, I can keep my data usage cost down when I get close to the 1 Gig cap by using a third party service portable Wi-Fi which uses Sprint as the backbone provider.

  14. My home is SW of 25th and Capehart Road in the unincorporated portion of Bellevue, Nebraska.  Since I took an interest in this, everything I observed was band 25 on three different devices.  This morning, in my driveway, I observed my new HTC One M9 reflect Bands 25,26, and 41 ... not all at the same time, but within seconds of each change.  All observations were while sitting in my car in my driveway.  I am not sure if all the bands observed came from the same tower or not.

Given this is a new to me device, i had not yet learned screenshots with it, so I used one cell phone to shoot photos of the various changes.  I was debating with myself to post the photos or not given the request not post well known information photos.

I was using the basic screen of  LTE Discovery in the Signal tab.

  15. I am a new kid on this block, but I find your LTE Discovery app interesting  especially driving Omaha NE to Des Moines, IA this week.  I saw a few channel 26s and 41s. I especially enjoyed a few places where the arrow was spinning like a top for a short bit on a HTC m9.

I have gone thu this thread, but I failed to find a set of instructions for this app.  A short something for the uneducated (like me).

I dropped in the $1.99 for the upgrade, but I failed to see anything download. How can I tell it the APP upgraded? What should I look for and what was my benefit besides a small tip of the hat your way ?? (Gladly done)

Now functioning on Android Lollipop 5.X
  16. Based on her statement that Wi-Fi calling is only offered for Apple products and the Sprint article linked footnote that iOS   8.3 is required, I believe it is currently restricted to Apple product Sprint customers.

The article does say other phones such as my HTC m9 also have WiFi calling ability.  The Sprint call priority is the sizzle for me.  I have excellent Wi-Fi in my home.

I have yet to experiment with Wi-Fi calling except older cell phones with no current Sprint service.  Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO)  offers W-Fi calling service for free in some cases.  They have Sprint for the backbone.

  17. Customer service on line chat.  Should be both voice and data functional at the same time.  That got my attention.

Comments here add to my thinking.

White-list this phone may allow me to set up on Freedom Pop which uses a Sprint backbone and It may be my next phone despite having to pay full price for it.  The offset would be no new two year contract which in my thinking is a major hindrance to any cell phone carrier.  I want the freedom to choose on the merits of the phone or the next technology to earn a hole in my wallet.

Did I read correctly not being rooted invites possible dangers to the novice user like myself?  Risk of malware?

  18. I just knew I missed something that came to mind in an unrelated thread.

I DEMAND my next cell phone be functional both voice and data at the same time.

At the very least ... give priority to an incoming call so that I may receive the call.  My wallet demands that.  So does the ability to call out. In my world, voice is priority ONE.

Another thing ... my next phone needs to be easier to answer an incoming call than my Photon Q.  I lose too many calls not being fast enough:

    >hear ring

    >pick up Photon Q

    >slide indicator to accept the call    too many times, that attempt is unsuccessful and I have to strive again and again.

Oh add an automatic setting that is fully functional and WORKS.  On a recent trip, I changed my cell phone setting from Sprint only to Automatic only to learn the hard way, the phone was useless until I manually played with the settings into roaming.  Then when I returned back to Sprint territory, I had to manually return it to Sprint Only.
