I did every beta of 9 and had it on release day, this behavior was not occurring.  I'm certain it has to do with VoLTE and sharper handoff metrics.

Yeah that makes very good sense.  So if you dont mind explaining to me what the ultimate fix will be and what they are currently tweaking?  Sounds like they are prepping for the quickest handoff so that the phone is losing little to zero voice packets I just dont know how they accomplish that technically and why it is affecting our service so severely right now.

  2. I am seeing similar behavior where I am onLTE then on eHRPD and down to 1x and back to eHRPD etc. Only happening since the 9.0 update but as mentioned it also somewhat coincides with the soft launch of VoLTE in Chicagoland.  I have done all the carrier updates with no luck but have not full reset yet.  Has anyone found a permanent solution to this?

  3. Anyone having trouble with incomming calls from at&t? Today whenever I get an incomming call from someone on at&t we can not hear each other. My phone will ring, I answer, and then nothing. I can call the person back and we hear each other fine though. Tried this with two people in different areas (Evanson and Hoffman Estates) about 10 times with the same result each time. Tested with another Sprint user and everything is normal.

Having exactly this with more than att. Comcast VoIP for instance. I have google voice integration do you?

Also been having complaints recently from att and Comcast VoIP that I sound very quiet and muffled. But nothing as bad as today's silence.

  4. Correct me if I am wrong Vince, but I think that speed test is pulled that from a B26 site, that N5 he's working with is not enabled for B41 yet. Amazing what LTE speeds look like on uncrowded airwaves isn't it.

I don't think you can pull those down speeds on a 5x5 sector like b26 operates on.

  5. Which forum topic would be the best location to discuss band 41, band 26 sightings? I know that premier members have access to maps with the 41 band deployment, however some of us cannot afford that level of membership. Can we and where should we post regarding this?

On this note, I was able to pick up band 41 on N St Clair St & E Huron St in Chicago last Tuesday and pulled 22 down and 0.8 mbits up.

    Perhaps this is why  :)

  6. I believe it has been mentioned before but it seems like when I am on LTE and receive a phone call it drops to 1x 1900.  However, when I am on 3g and receive a phone call it connects to 1x 800.  This stands true 100% of the time for me albeit I have only checked on a few occasions.  Any one else noticing the same or different?  Has there been an explanation posted for this yet?  It's not really a problem in the Chicago suburbs because cell spacing is pretty good...just thought it was weird that it was so consistent.

  7. I'm just excited for 800 LTE on my iPhone. It will really show me what this network can do, and hopefully fill in the countless LTE dead zones around the suburbs. Also, we don't know if that band is activated on the iPhone because there's no way to test it. After reading the g2/nexus 5 forums with their complications, I've been wondering if Sprint locked band 26 on these iPhones and would require some sort of update whenever they feel like pushing it to devices.

Good news is with the improved RF performance of the Nexus 5 I have yet to see any of the typical LTE dead zones during my trips to work and back through the western suburbs.  For LTE signal its an easy 10 db higher than my HTC One and sometimes more.  Band 26 would be nice for indoors but even still I hold signal much stronger indoors than before.  My friends HTC One will drop to 3g where mine still holds -95 to -100 db of LTE.  Haven't gotten to the city yet so I am sure the slowness/SNR problems still exist there unfortunately :(

  8. Thank you for the quick response! So if I upgrade to a phone that supports 800MHz voice I can see a vast improvement in phone calls inside my building? Has Sprint already flipped the switch on 800MHz voice calls in the city? Thanks!

You will see a definite improvement in cdma signal quality yes. There are very few towers in the west loop that have not gotten their 800mhz upgrade.  Most of them are broadcasting 800mhz or will be shortly.  I would suggest becoming a sponsor so you have access to the full site map.  It would give you a clear view of where towers are located and what upgrades have been done to them.

  9. I do have a question. I have an iPhone 4S and I still have terrible cell phone reception in my building located on the West Loop. I was wondering if the iPhone 4S handled 800MHz voice calls or it's just 1900MHz for this model.

    Thanks!

iPhone 4s does not support 800mhz cdma voice unfortunately.

  10. Anyone else notice the gmail/email notification previews suddenly reverted back to standard notifications?  I was able to preview the message with option to reply/forward using the notification pull down when i first updated but somehow it has reverted back to pre 4.2 behavior.  My friend has the Sprint HTC One and his still does the gmail/email preview so I wonder what I could have changed. Maybe I just need a factory reset :(

  11. This may have already been answered so I apologize in advance but how is sprint proceeding with NV now that they own clear. I know they plan to put 2600 on all Sprint towers but never heard what they are doing with Clear towers.

    • Are they keeping all existing Clearwire leased towers and converting them to TDD-LTE?
    • Will they be adding 800 and 1900 carriers to clear towers as well?
  12. No. I don't think Sprint will say anything publicly. They will just add carriers as needed when the spectrum is available.

Sprint also has not announced what they will specifically do with the spectrum. I would guess in the Chicago market, they will add another LTE 1900 carrier on high capacity sites right away. And then maybe add them to other sites as needed. They may also add an EVDO carrier or two to high capacity sites as well.

In other markets, like Ft. Wayne, they may add another EVDO carrier now. Or they may save the new spectrum for just one additional LTE 1900 carrier. No one knows outside the walls of Sprint just yet what their plans are.

I dont understand the purpose of purchasing the spectrum and not using it on every site. Its like purchasing a sprinkler system for my entire yard but only activating one sprinkler lol. Is it costly for Sprint to add an additional carrier?  I imagined it being a software configuration change somewhere.

  13. I would think that USCC could deactivate carriers down to just one 1x and one EVDO carrier all over the affected markets in 30 days or so, freeing up a majority of the spectrum for use by Sprint right away.

Robert, do you foresee Sprint keeping the public up to speed with the spectrum migration as things progress or are we to rely on our own tools?  Has Sprint announced any concrete plans yet for the USCC spectrum in the Chicagoland area or is that still TBD? Thanks.

  14. I'm losing my mind and my patience over the callers not being able to hear me issue. It hasn't gotten much better for me, but I'm glad to hear that it is for others. I live in the Wheaton / Warrenville / Winfield area if this matters to anyone? Can anyone in this area confirm that almost the entirety of Winfield Road north of I-88 up to the railroad tracks is almost a dead zone? There is a 4G tower near I-88 but I lose the signal around Butterfield road and am either getting no data signal, or weak (dial-up speed or time-out) 3G until I reach the tracks where I pick up the 4G (sometimes) from the tower at Central Dupage hospital.

I'm afraid to call tech support or do anything because my phone is rooted with a custom ROM and when I had US Cellular they shut my phone off when they found this out and I had a pain in the ass of a time getting it back, so I'd rather avoid Sprint tech support. However, if this keeps up I might have to flash back to stock and do something because it's so bad that whenever someone calls me I let it roll to voicemail and then call them back because if I answer they won't be able to hear me. This happens all around the dupage area. I never had this problem 2 months ago so I know it has nothing to do with my phone.

On another note, did they ever do anything about the Evo 4G LTE signal problems? Half the time the phone is on 3G even though there are 4G towers around the area, and I still have to do the airplane mode flip to get the phone to switch to 4G. I tried setting the phone to LTE/CDMA only but being on 1X is painful and it still happens far too often for me to turn off 3G entirely. The other problem is that when the phone is in 3G mode (especially in the Winfield/Warrenville area and Winfield Road corridor), it's unusable and below dial-up speeds.

I'm wondering if I would solve so many problems if I just upgraded to a Galaxy S4? I am really unhappy with the Evo.

Yeah Winfield road is bad until you get near CDH. That road is right at the edge of a pair of towers to the east and west. I am sure it has something to do with that entire area being either forest preserve or catigny golf. Sprint must not be able to build towers on certain zoning or perhaps it is not cost effective to do so.

Also I have noticed that kicking off a PRL update will trigger a rescan for 4g and in my experience is the equivalent of toggling airplane mode. May be a moot point but thought I would toss out an alternative.

  15. Got mine. will post up pics in a bit

So the "print" issue is fixed and debug still there. Now to do some RF testing.

So this is probably a super n00b question but how did you get the rf numbers to show up in the pull down menu?

Edit: Or up in the left hand corner too for that matter :)
