This just happened to my friend and his brother. I had to do a full scan of his computer and it was cause by a virus
Oh man. Good thing that computer is long gone. Windows XP was so dangerous concerning viruses.

I think it's important to remember that Macintosh is a fantastic OS while iOS is a horrible one.
That being said, the reason Apple is under so much scrutiny is because their profits are phenomenal. It's extremely clear that they can improve pay and conditions. As Mr. Jobs said, "Those jobs aren't coming back." This is fine but the company is far to successful to be so evil. Basically, enough people have iThings that this story can be much more sensational and used to raise awareness. While I'm against misinformation, I think it's important to be aware of the source of your products. If we can't trust people to check on it and care then we can see an infographic about it which someone hopes will be posted to many a tumblr and Facebook pages. Or perhaps it's easier just to accept the new product from big brother.
I do love my Mac and I have my own reasons but those horrible iOS devices. Why God why? Oh and fun fact. It costs Apple somewhere around 90 bucks to make an iPhone, most of that is shipping to US.

Just now saw this topic. I'll get a screen of the Indianapolis one up and another I saw in the Greenwood area of Indy.
downtown Indianapolis.
Just east of Greenwood.
Cheers.
Side note, for a quick image host, imgur.com works fine for me. You don't even need to make an account.

It's just a security update but with the promise of Ice Cream Sandwich on the horizon, I'm excited for anything.

And threads like this are why like this forum.
I do find it odd though, people hating towers so much, simply because when they were building towers in my home town people just said things like "Yeah! now I don't have to stand on my pickup truck to make a call." No really, you had to stand in the truck bed or on something of equivalent height. Did I mention I was from the country?
This was more than five years ago mind you.

Neat, I haven't checked that site in a bit. They're finally doing work on the towers that cover campus. Excellent. You may as well ignore any 3G signal you have there ATM.

Even if the number is optimistic it's quite impressive. I've been in love with Nokia's new designs. Only one more thing to make me buy this, the network.
...also, why is there a star of david under the main antenna?

I don't think I have ever seen two people say unkind words about iPhones in the same thread in my life. Especially without someone jumping in the middle and gushing all over how they love the iPhone and Apple and would turn into an apple so Steve Jobs' ghost could take a bite out of them and they would be the mascot for Apple....
It really tires me out. There are fanatic Android users, yes, but most Android users openly admit the faults/shortcomings of the OS or their device. iFans, however, 99% of them admit nothing and as far as any shortcoming is concerned, if it isn't on iPhone, it's not important.
And I apologize to any iFans here, but I call it as I see it. We may have the entire 1% of iFans that admit when something is not perfect.
There are too many scary big words in this thread for an iPhone fan to chirp in. Also, we have to remember that it's not iOS vs Android. It's about the experience and even with iOS 5 iOS feels like a 3 year old experience. Android depends highly on your version. I really wish people would be more open to operating systems. If HP hadn't killed WebOS it would have been great. It is seriously one of the smoothest OS's I've ever used and it reached a whopping, what version 2? Also, we can't count out Windows Phone 7 just yet. It's growing like crazy and I haven't met the person yet that says, man I wish I hadn't switched to WP7.
And where are my flip phones! Why can't I have a nice sleek modern flip phone. Japan and DoCoMo make them and they look sweet.
Even Android flip phones if you're are stuck to the OS and want a pile of Sexy Girl XXX wallpaper apps in the Play Store. If we don't have the app stores, I'm looking at things like HTML5 to make these locked platform apps of the now obsolete.
Sorry for the rant guys, and the picture gallery. I just think American carriers are so stuck on the candy bar, you can never drop this phone, design.

That I can understand. Most people just never think of it. Hence updates in iOS 5 are done directly on the phone instead of computer only.
I have never heard of that happening before. Was that an original iPhone?
iPhone 4. What I narrowed down was windows would think that it was a camera and install the wrong drivers. iTunes would not recognize it and he would mistakenly reset the software or something. I never really saw the problem happen, only fixed it once it was messed up. Probably PEBKAC but it had the affect of discouraging updates.
-
Most of iOS fragmentation is caused by the users not upgrading.
Expansion on this, My friend, every time he would try to update his iPhone on his PC it would go to the 'plug into iTunes' screen and not work unless he plugged it into my MacBook or my friend's PC. For this reason, he never really updates anymore. Just not worth it.

IMO if they do that, they will pigeonhole themselves as being aimed at juveniles and lose any credibility of being suitable for business users or adults. They'll open the door wide for WP to take their market share. I can understand bringing all your media offerings into one place like itunes or Amazon, but there is nothing wrong with the Android brand. They have become the #1 OS in a matter of a couple years, why mess with success?
I think they should stick to Android or Chrome. Chrome is a pretty strong name now and I really thought they were going to build that but now I have Play Music, Play Books, and Play Store on my phone. I hope they make a real marketplace for apps with certified apps so I don't have to read 15 reviews on every app to make sure I'm not downloading a widget that advertises to me every hour. That's the main thing I'd like to see come out of this.
-
I agree, he is just trying to make waves and get his name out there.
...
Also, I think he is ENTIRELY off base thinking the new Google tablet will be called "Google Play tablet" I may be eating crow in a few months, but that name is flat out stupid.
Get ready to have "play" shoved down your throat because I think Google is going to try to build that name like Microsoft did with "Live" and Apple did with "i."
-
The only part of this I could see holding any truth is the idea of a better tablet OS, maybe built off Chrome OS. Google has so much in Android right now, I'd think it be a heck of a lot easier just to fix Android than build a new OS, but I think neither will occur.

Indianapolis area is pretty much upgraded by now but I remember similar experiences when the changes swept through. It seemed very sudden. I never had a lack of bars, just a lack of speed like they were over capacity. Now it's great though. I'm glad to see Sprint finally repairing it's image. I'm seeing more and more excitement for the carrier even just among my friends and family.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised. Their list of cities is sure smaller than Sprint though.
Their list is shorter but it looks like they're still doing plenty of work. Right now it looks like they have more planned for the future than Sprint. Just look at the Indianapolis area. It's lit up.

Alright, finally home. Yes, to me, WiMax is Sprint's WiMax and whatever values that carries. I understand that something you know quite a bit about can be annoying when someone simplifies it so much but I think it's safe to say that whatever WiMax/LTE/CDMA/EvDo signal I'm talking about is the one that Sprint offers. I did not think to mention that since these are very specific Sprint forums. And really, hardly any signal pierces those old buildings especially as weak as all 4G deployments are.
What I was getting at really was about how directional the signal was. I know they put the antennas up facing several directions and I was just pondering if being too low would cut out signal even if buildings were less of an issue. My school, Ball State, did testing with WiMax on it's own and deployed at 2.5 Ghz and their tests had decent signal even in the depths of buildings so I'm very aware it's possible.
You've answered my question quite fine but I do think it's safe to say that WiMax and LTE when written simply on s4gru.com are referring to what Sprint offers unless explicitly stated otherwise. As the buildout of LTE hits full swing soon, you're going to have people a lot less knowledgable than me here.
edit: Not trying to be mean or disrespectful at all, I really like this community. I'm just speaking frankly.

I'm sitting here on the fourth floor of the library next to a window with what my phone is describing as"good" WiMax signal. I am assuming it has to do with having greater building clearance because from what I understand, WiMax is garbage at getting through brick and limestone (what every building in Indiana is made of.) I'm just wondering if there are any more advantages besides clearance. Really, who knew all I had to do is climb two sets of stairs to increase my speed 20x.
Sent from my Evo Design 4g on a dying network.
-
Hi. Midwesterner here. We get plenty of rain. I would always notice signal die during a storm on WiMax but 3G was always unaffected. I know this question has already been answered but I thought I'd throw in my support.

Are there areas that doesnt have sprint 3g but has the slower sprint data network (not roaming)? If so do they plan to convert them to 3g let alone 4g? I think its just as importent maybe even more for the sprint data nextwork to be all 3g as starting to deploy 4g in areas that are 3g.
To the first answer I can answer from experience yes. I'd actually disagree with the moving up to 3G though. If they did it would only feel past due and might not even help that much. I recall getting speeds of around 50kbps on ol' 2G data, lived on it for a year in Bloomington IN. I'd say focus all efforts to beefing up the backend so 3G actually outperforms 2G in all areas and pressing on with 4G. As I know it, most people in this country are covered by 3G, however shoddy it may be, I just can't support spending a ton of cash on providing 3G to 4 folks living on a hill somewhere or supplying full tilt EVDO to 3000 cows and one caballaro tending them streaming rocking tunes on Pandora.
edit: Alright! member level digital! Sending texts and everything!

I can see this being a good thing. Their LTE plans are surprisingly agressive. At this point, I think Sprint could use a (finally) successful partnership.
-
That seems decently accurate to me. I'm not all that sure how the whole system works but I'd imagine there is a lot of guess work and maybe some assumptions made based on the towers you can contact. I don't think there is any question that ATT has more towers than Sprint in most areas. May I ask why you don't just use GPS for your location which for me is accurate to something like 6 meters.
-
You realize that "premium data" means that you have a smartphone right? It has nothing to do with 4G. Please don't use this forum to complain about Sprint. If you actually want to ask a question, that's fine, but don't use this forum to flame sprint. This website is all about 4G rollout updates, if you want to complain about Sprint service, go to sprintusers.
It seems like a legitimate post to me. It can be frustrating to have bad signal so I think nova's language got a little more excited, possibly I'm used to dealing with much worse. I think we can break his post down to his expectation to not drop signal when he's paying an additional fee and wondering if it's a technical issue on the device side or the tower side. To which I respond, it sounds like maintenance on the tower. This was happening to me last year and after a couple of days it straightened itself out and speeds were much better. A quick check on Nova's post history shows he is a decent contributor to the forum so I'd cut him some slack.

I have it integrated but I've only done so for about 2 weeks. As far as I can tell, it uses minutes like normally. I know you can make calls over WiFi but I haven't investigated that yet.

CSS is great. Totally easy to learn. What is it..
color:black;
I guess you'd just need to know the shortcut and you'd be good. CSS makes html look like it was designed by five year olds in that it is so much easier to make stuff look right.
Mystery "Flagship" Phone coming soon!!!!
in Misc.
Posted · Edited by Contreramanjaro
The new Nokia phones are causing quite a stir. Maybe one of those.
edit: I'm thinking this because we haven't seen a lot of development or announcement buzz around a new phone. From this I'm figuring it's already a phone that's sort of done. Leads me to Galaxy SIII (Which I doubt since it would cut the life of the nexus dramatically short) or a Lumia device which supports LTE and the Windows Phone Developers Summit is on June 20th may hold some surprises.
edit 2: Also there have been mystery benchmarks showing up on WP and I haven't heard of anything new on Android. Direct competition to the Evo and Nexus seems a little crazy right now.
