  1. Did you watch a YouTube video on how to do the battery swap? Have any useful links for us? I've considered putting a new battery in my Note 5. The battery just doesn't last as long as it used to anymore. I really wish Samsung would figure out a way to keep the water resistance and dust-proofing while giving us the ability to swap batteries. It isn't a matter of wanting to swap them on a regular basis (for me, although it is convenient to be able to do so), but rather after a couple years when the battery is beat. Anyway, keep us posted on how it works out for you. Good luck!
  2. That's due to the smaller one being a newer, different version that just came out.
  3. I haven't noticed this myself yet. Also, I think Google *may* have fixed the issue w/ inability to turn on the screen after using Maps w/ the latest software update to the Maps and/or Google apps. I haven't run into the problem for about a week now. I'm running the non-beta Maps and beta Google app.
  4. Here I thought I was the only one having this problem! So infuriating. I too think it has something to do with Google Maps, as the only time it seems to happen is when the last thing I did with my phone is use Google Maps. I thought it might have been because I was a Google Maps beta tester, but leaving the beta program didn't help. I was hoping it might have been related to one of Samsung's firmware updates since I think I installed the Nov update around the time the issue started happening, but the Dec update they just pushed out definitely did not fix the problem. I've also been noticing Google maps running incredibly slow sometimes despite not having anything else running in the background (to the best of my knowledge). I'm not sure if the slowness has anything to do with the phone taking a while to come out of standby. Whatever the issue is, it's incredibly frustrating.
  5. This is my #1 complaint about the Marshmallow update. Does anyone know if the entire ability to have "live wallpaper" on lockscreens was removed from Marshmallow? Is this a Google or Samsung issue? I tried seeing if there was a way to add a weather lockscreen widget but didn't find anything. Does anyone have any info/idea on how to get weather info back on the lockscreen?
  6. So I've been using my wife's old LG G2 phone that I repaired (replaced LCD, digitizer, bezel). It's running ZVE / KitKat 4.4.2 and I swear this phone is running better than I can ever remember. Certainly it is running so much smoother/faster than my touchscreen-on-the-fritz G2 with the latest Lollipop / ZVH even after a factory reset and minimal apps installed. Where I notice the most difference is in switching apps and opening emails - gone are the 3-5 second lags I constantly experienced with Lollipop that I had just grown to accept. It almost makes you wonder if manufacturers intentionally slow down their older phones with software updates in order to push people to buy the latest/greatest model, although that may just be my cynical side talking. And speaking of the latest/greatest model, for anyone interested, Sam's Club is offering the Galaxy S6 and Note 5 for just 96 cents tomorrow, in store only. More info on that deal at my Slickdeals post here: http://slickdeals.net/f/8238417-sams-s-club-offering-galaxy-s6-and-note-5-verizon-sprint-us-cellular-for-96-cents-this-sat-nov-14 Unfortunately, my 2 year contract isn't up until Dec 1, and Sprint told me they wouldn't/couldn't budge on letting me take advantage of the Sam's Club deal a couple weeks early.
  7. The G4 hasn't received any update that mentions Stagefright - its last update was Sep 16. It's possible it shipped with at least some of the patches already applied. The G3's last update was Sep 25 for Stagefright - released about a month before our G2 update on Oct 19. Both the G2 and G3 have RDFs available that are later than the most recently released updated (ie ZVI for the G2 and ZVC for the G3), but since they haven't been officially released yet, there's no info (that I know of) as to what changes the updates include.
  8. I believe the Stagefright correction involved multiple patches for multiple vulnerabilities discovered separately with the library. After the first one was fixed by Google and OEMs and carriers raced to issue the patch, other vulnerabilities were discovered. This patch may be to address those other issues. This app checks for the various vulnerabilities in StageFright and lets you know which, if any, are still present: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zimperium.stagefrightdetector I'm guessing ZVH's StageFright lib is still vulnerable to some and not to others. I haven't run it yet myself on ZVH, but if someone does, please let us know what it says.
  9. Wow, it's like clockwork then! My touchscreen started going haywire a few weeks ago. No phantom swipes/presses, but the touchscreen has dead spots all over it. Some are permanent while others come and go. Very frustrating to use the phone now. My wife cracked her screen a while back, so I'm going to replace the screen and digitizer when the part comes later this week. If that goes well, I'll try it on my G2. Meanwhile, she picked up a Galaxy S6 for $50 w/ 2 year contract renewal from Amazon. Talk about a great phone. If the G2 repair doesn't go well, I'll probably be doing the same. This is all to say nothing about the poor stock software on the G2 w/ the Lollipop upgrade. I'm not sure if it's LG's or Google's fault w/ the memory leak(s) in Lollipop (some of which were fixed in 5.1, I believe), but after just a few days of having my G2 on, it begins to really slow down - switching apps, opening new ones, etc. all have a delay of several seconds. A reboot fixes it temporarily, but in this day and age one shouldn't have to reboot a computer/phone every few days to keep it running smoothly. Between the hardware and software issues with the G2, I'm hesitant to buy another LG phone. I'm not sure if the G4 has any of these issues - obviously it's still a bit new to know how well the hardware will hold up. It's unfortunate since the LG G's have some great unique features (I love the double tap on/off the most), but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a phone to hold up for more than 2 years.
  10. It seems from the relative lack of posts in this thread that not too many people are still using our beloved G2. I remember wading through pages and pages of posts after the ZVE update came out - both here and on XDA. That said, for those who have updated to Lollipop/ZVG, how is it? Some have reported significantly worse battery life, even after a factory reset. Any issues, thoughts, or comments on it?
  11. Thanks so much! This just started happening with my phone too a couple weeks ago ... probably in a recent update to the Google search app. Annoying as all hell ... I was planning to do a factory reset of the phone after uninstalling a bunch of apps to try to narrow down what the culprit was. I knew it was a software issue (vs lint in the mic) since rebooting the phone always fixed the problem for a short amount of time. Very happy to have a fix!
  12. Looks like google just release Android 5.1: http://www.forbes.com/sites/jaymcgregor/2015/03/10/google-releases-android-5-1-introduces-essential-feature/ with "stability and performance improvements". I wonder if they'll upgrade us directly to 5.1 if it really fixes most/all the issues people have been reporting with 5.0?
  13. Just use ioroot v25 from XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869
  14. If you do a Google search for "adb sideload tutorial" you can find some guides. Generally speaking, you need to do the following: 1) get the Android debugger (ADB) executable (you can get this from the ioroot rooting tool). 2) install the LG G2 drivers from LG's web site (I believe the TMobile one works since there isn't/wasn't a Sprint-specific driver posted). 3) reboot your phone into recovery mode (you can either use ADB to do this or hold in certain keys while powering on the phone - I'm not 100% sure which they are); 4) run adb.exe from the command line I think at least 2 people on XDA reported that their phone is now in a boot loop after trying to install the update, so you may want to hold off installing until more people have reported back (I myself have not installed it yet).
  15. No, ADB sideloading (as it's called) has been around in Android for years. Not any greater chance than installing the OTA. The direct download link I posted on XDA is the exact file your phone would (eventually) download and install on its own. Also, just keep in mind that if you install the update (either by sideloading or once your phone gets the update on its own), you may lose the ability to root your phone for some period of time (ie until a dev figures out a workaround). So if root is critical to you, you may want to wait until the devs come up with a rooted ZVC firmware you can use.
