  1. I have no problem with Sprint sticking to its guns on the no MEID addition policy.  Since Sprint is primarily a 3GPP2 operator, it is just simpler this way -- if it is listed in the database, then it is guaranteed compatible.  Otherwise, Sprint is going to have to deal with thousands of stupid people who think that they can now activate anything with a SIM slot.  That works on magenta and those other Euro loving 3GPP bandwagon jumpers, but it will not work on Sprint.

But they don't have to open it up to any potentially incompatible MEID in this case.  Sprint can get the T-Mobile Nexus 5 MEIDs anytime they want to.  Google certainly did not intend for certain Nexus 5s to have different activation characteristics than others.

  2. I have. I called a near by business and it slapped their logo on my screen as like the pictures I have set as contact icons.

Calling out definitely works on wifi... it's the calling in (from a number that you've never called) that seems to be spotty on sprint.  I'm guessing it is impossible on cellular only since there is no data connection when the phone is ringing... but presumably on wifi should work (although i've not seen it).

  3. I've had it work for me.  When the local Firestone Auto Center called to say my car was ready, their logo was displayed along with their phone number.

Had you previously called them or were you on wifi on the time?  I've seen it work on Sprint when I've previously called the company, and my call history already showed their logo and business name before they called me.  I haven't seen it work on wifi, but it seems like it should.

  4. So what's this feature all about?

If someone from a known business number (known to Google in some capacity, anyways), it will show up with the business's name and sometimes the business logo when they call you.  Even though the business name is not in your phone book, etc.

    It's very neat...when it works.

  5. That is interesting news.  I was not sure that T-Mobile would bother with LTE in Omaha.  Well, I suppose that is nice for visitors who have T-Mobile.  Data speeds should be insanely fast because there are almost zero local subs on the network.  But coverage is reportedly very weak due to the skeleton network of just a few sites.  On the other hand, roaming on AT&T would not be that much better.  Omaha is and has long been a CDMA2000 town.

No doubt T-Mobile is extremely weak in Omaha, and Verizon and Sprint are the strongest carriers, but AT&T has quietly built a fairly decent network in Omaha over the past few years--I wouldn't at all say it is "not that much better" than T-Mobile.  AT&T is hugely better than T-Mobile in Omaha (T-Mobile is only usable in about 25% of the city).  AT&T has really closed the gap quite a bit from a few years ago--they're actually a viable choice now, IMO.  And if AT&T had a cellular license and Verizon didn't hold both sides, I'd venture to say they'd actually be beyond competitive with any carrier--in town.  Rural is an entirely different story, and CDMA has a massive, massive lead.

  6. I find it hard to believe your post is nothing more than a troll attempt. Typically, a troll would be met with a witty comment like "Well, you will need to have a contract, but at least you can use your phone past the city limits signs with Sprint" but I wont do that.

I don't think the op is a troll and I share their sentiments in wanting a legitimate contract free option. In case you haven't noticed, that's where the market is headed. I expect sprint will eventually have to offer something... att just announced a discount for unsubsidized phones and will let you on without a contract if you go to a store.
