  1. I've said this 1000 times. Sprint can get some quick network wins in Airports. It's a self-contained area. Lots of people pass through from all over the world. It's an easy place to gain a great reputation or lose it...

With reports like these, Sprint is losing it.

For starters, Marcelo needs to sit down with the administrative folks at the 50 airports on this list and put a Triband DAS in each one. Period.

Knowing that this report exists, it seems like that might be a worthwhile investment. Just a few months of improvement could see a complete 180 on Sprint's performance in the top 50 airports, at least. Imagine everyone's shock if Sprint just cleaned house in the next iteration of this report...

  2. Both of you gentlemen, are trying to have me part with money that I don't have but my particular hobby is to buy things I don't need. And I'm very close to doing so! I'm going to have to mull this over a little bit more.

I'm in the same boat. Too bad I missed the Lightning deal on Amazon the other day where they were selling the 32GB version for $399 [emoji58]

  3. A joke implies a statement or story with a funny punchline that is told to cause laughter in the person hearing it. I for one did not find that post funny or irrelevant to the topic at hand. Plus, it didn't get accompanied with a smiley therefore there indicating it was a joke regardless if it was successful or not.

That's probably the worst combined grammar and logic I've ever seen in a single post. His joke wasn't funny to you. Enough. Let's move past it.

  4. Smh people kill me with the whole debt thing with Sprint as if T-Mobile is debt free and isn't losing money. But whatever I guess. Even if sprint was gaining a crapload of customers in sure a article will come out saying it's not sustainable because they aren't making any money

  5. I'm thinking, or at least hoping that Sprint, with Masa Son and Marcelo backing this auction fully with all the financial power it takes to outbid T-Mobile on all of that 30mhz reserve spectrum. I'd like to see Verizon get a huge chunk of the unreserved spectrum, with AT&T getting just enough of it.

At least with respect to your statement regarding Sprint, that's totally contingent upon enough spectrum being up for grabs in each market to even activate the reserve. From what I understand, it's not as though the first 30MHz are reserved and whatever's left is unreserved spectrum; in fact it is almost precisely the opposite. How this auction turns out will depend entirely on the current license holders and how much spectrum is made available in each market.
  6. Sprint is going to have a tough time replicating this, because of technical reasons. Not much CDMA in Canada and Mexico anymore. And Sprint LTE bands are not in use. Maybe something can be done with CCA devices, but then there would be no voice. Messy.

Just WCDMA capable devices could do something like this on Sprint.

    Using Nexus 6 on Tapatalk

So, essentially, until VoLTE is the standard Sprint's only response is a proverbial tip o' the cap to T-Mobile? i.e. there is no real chance for a like-for-like counter, correct?
  7. I see Verizon continuing to expand into USCC territory as they have been doing for years. I see it all over central and southern Oregon. As this continues, Verizon is going to be the new carrier in these small towns and USCC customers are likely to join Verizon for better service in the cities. The only way that USCC will be able to compete is to team up with a Sprint or a T-Mobile who has the LTE in the cities all over the country.

I think they're saying that USCC might be angling toward eventually being bought out, but they would have no leverage in any related negotiation if they allow potential suitors full roaming access on a pseudo-native basis.

  8. Yeah, but Omaha isn't spectrum limited, is it? There's little urgency for a complete shutdowns.

I think you're right about that. And I agree with your earlier point regarding a WiMAX shutdown. Honestly shouldn't be difficult, and despite this area not being a high priority, it seems like bringing on additional carriers alongside shutting down WiMAX is a nice stopgap at the very least to guarantee quality service in the near to middle term even without significant B41 spectrum holdings.

  9. So where do we talk about carrier aggregation excitement?

This is probably the one thing that will make me upgrade my Nexus 5 and my wife's phone as well. Austin is a fantastic Sprint market except for very, very small pockets where you get kicked to 3g (usually doing airplane mode on/off kicks you back to a weak lte signal).

All things considered I will probably re-up with Sprint in the future.

If I'm not mistaken, aside from the speed benefits of CA, it should also help with edge-of-cell performance (please correct me if I'm wrong), so it might even help you out with those pockets of 3G. [emoji4]
  10. I'm pretty sure the only tower in town is still a USCC tower. On 122 just west of town.

I was in Stanford a few months ago, and there is a tower there on the south end of town, that looked like a previously owned USCC tower, but had Vertical Bridge signs on it. Vertical Bridge is who bought a lot of the USCC towers throughout the area where USCC sold Spectrum to Sprint.

If you are out in the area again - go check the tower out and see if it has Sprint equipment now! :)

I haven't quite gotten the hang of differentiating Sprint equipment from any other carrier's equipment, but I'll take a look and see what I can find out next time I'm in the area. [emoji1]
  11. I clean flashed the factory image today and it is doing well thus far. Still very snappy. Haven't noticed any real difference in connectivity or battery life (not surprising considering it was a minor update) but it's been really smooth. Always feels good to start fresh ????

  12. I was just out in Minier the other day and I was roaming on 1x on some USCC tower. Despite being only on 1x, I could still load webpages and the like (which has not been typical of my experience on 1x in the past); this leads me to believe there must be a USCC tower somewhere relatively close to Minier. Any idea where it's at? And if so, what do we think are the chances it gets a full Sprint build in the future?

It would be great to see some solid rural LTE coverage come out of the USCC deal, since that seems like the major reason behind it to begin with?

  13. I was just at the Kentucky Derby this weekend and wanted to comment on my experience in Churchill Downs. On both the Friday of the Oaks and the Saturday of the Derby, I had good strong LTE (B25) signal at Churchill Downs, but could not get any internet access at all; the connection consistently timed out. Early in the morning on Saturday, I was able to pull meager speeds of about 1mbps down, but the connection started to time out as more people arrived, which led me to believe that whatever tower(s) is/are responsible for covering that area was/were just overburdened by the sheer number of people in the area. I didn't see any B41, so that certainly didn't help congestion either. I figure with upgraded backhaul for the tower or towers in question and possibly having 1-2 carriers of B41 coverage there next year, the experience might be noticeably different.

For the sake of comparison, I had friends on AT&T and Verizon who both had consistent service with no interruptions, so it is obviously possible. No info on T-Mobile in the area.

  14. That is glorious to hear! :)

It's been very quick in the deployment too. I was in the Marriott in Normal yesterday and didn't have Band 41, but today I do. And I just noticed it at home yesterday for the first time as well (definitely a different tower).

Truly exciting stuff to start seeing what Sprint has to offer once full deployment is reached. Start investing in Sprint stock now, fellas, because it's about to be on the rise [emoji4] [emoji6] [emoji1]
