  1. I'm still hoping Sprint 'caps' it around the 8-12Mbps range. I would love to get those speeds consistently throughout the day. I don't care if I can get 30+Mbps at 3:00am, I'd rather get 8-12 all the time. An upload speed in that neighborhood would be pretty great as well. I'm with fat though, I haven't seen any backhaul updates in the Elgin area whatsoever. The 3G speed is still horribly slow. I was running Pandora in my car yesterday and as I was heading West on Shoe Factory near Toastmaster, it took literally a minute between songs. That's pretty bad. I had forced over to VZW 3G last weekend and the switch between songs was almost instantaneous.
  2. Hey guys, just wanted to provide a bit of an update. I was driving north on Barrington Rd today, and I remembered the posting here about the intersection of Barrington and Schaumburg. I passed right by it as I was heading north (even saw the Noodles & Co referenced) but no luck. I had my phone's screen on just to see, and shortly after I passed that intersection, there wasn't a 3G icon anymore...sure enough, 4G icon came up. I pulled over into a parking lot (Casey's Automotive I think it was called) and ran a few speed tests. Not too shabby IMO, I would love to see these as a consistent speed. It jumped back to 3G just before I hit Bode Rd.
  3. Oh, LTE will be fantastic by the time the Bears clinch the NFC North. There's some gangly lookin' character from California who be leading that charge for the next five years...and after him, some Transformer dude is somewhere else in that same division posing yet another problem. Aaron Rodgers is my hero, Calvin Johnson is a freak.
  4. Nooooo!!!!! Wish I would've seen that eariler. I too live in Elgin and work in Schaumburg. I could've easily gone over in that direction to check this out. If you happen to get it again, please do post so I can trek over there and test it myself
  5. I second this. No more dropped calls around the Elgin area. My wife and I were heading to Indy last night and she was on the phone when we were heading south on 294. I could tell by the conversation she was breaking up, and sure enough, she dropped the call. They're moving closer and closer to the city, but as stated before, nothing official will happen until work in the Loop at least begins. Over analyzing by who? Hopefully you're not talking about this site because this site has actual information, not just theory. I saw Robert (Admin) made a post about how the information on this site will force Sprint to own up to what's going on. There isn't a whole lot of theory and assumption going on around this site, just the facts. While the explanations may be very technical in nature, they're still accurate and there is an explanation of what's happening if you understand the language that's being spoken.
  6. I usually freeze system update, but an updated PRL shouldn't have any real effect on NV as its just an updated list for roaming towers. PRL = Preferred Roaming List. Doubtful it will increase your Sprint 3G speeds or anything like that.
  7. So if I just donated, how can I access these maps? I got a hankering to drive around looking for LTE tonight for some strange reason...
  8. Are you talking NV upgrades or LTE being done by July 20th? I don't have the fine details on towers, but I know work is already moving inward from Elgin. They started outside the city (Chicago) and are working their way in from what it sounds like. I would expect most of the NV towers in Elgin have been done, but as stated in this thread, there is work to be done with backhaul so speeds may not be great until that's done. As far as LTE goes, I give it about a 2% chance being done and turned on in the next 8 days. I have noticed that my 3G speeds with my GSIII are far better than they were with my OG Epic, for what that's worth.
  9. I'll confirm this as well. It was getting awful! Things seem to be getting better now though. I live on the NE side of Elgin, work in Schaumburg across from Woodfield. Have an SGSIII so I'll be able to test out LTE once it hits around here. Just activated it last night and had some data issues that needed to be fixed by Sprint. I was on wifi all night last night playing around and then all day at work today, so didn't realize there was a problem with my account until tonight. I literally just got off the phone with their tech folks and I tested 3G for a little bit and it was noticeably faster than it was when I had my Epic. Not sure if it's the phone, radio, or just simply timing and the network is in fact getting better. Once I got my issues resolved, I immediately put a custom ROM on it so we'll see how things pan out the next few days. I'll be sure to flip the LTE network every now and then at work to see if it picks anything up. Looks like by default, the mobile network selection is only CDMA, not LTE/CDMA...
  10. I recognize the name from the XDA site as well, he's a very knowledgeable person, no question. I'll keep the PRL I have now and wait for his analysis until deciding what I want to do. It sounds like it might be quite a bit easier to change a PRL on the SGSIII vs the Epic I had before.
  11. Great, thanks for the info. Would you happen to have any information on SGSIII PRLs? I have a business account with Sprint, but I always got the 'general population' PRL when I had my Epic 4G. My assumption was because I've had a Sprint account for over 10 years, and I just got the business account discount maybe two years or so ago. Business account should be able to get 3G roaming from Verizon, but even when I was able to roam (at least my assumption was it was always Verizon, I guess it could've been USC without me knowing it) I always got 1x speeds when up in Wisconsin. Just got the SGSIII last night and the current PRL is 25005.
  12. Hey gang, just joined the site, though I've been reading a few articles here for a while now. I thought it was time to jump in and join the chicago forum. I read a few posts about people talking about forcing roaming on their phones. Only problem is Sprint and Verizon don't have roaming contracts around Chicago, so you can't roam at all in the city or in the burbs. At least, this is what I've read and experienced. I've been as far west of the city as Woodstock and still no go on roaming there, last I checked. I talked to the dev of Roam Control and he told me the same thing...no go on roaming in Chicago. I too have noticed a drop in Wimax speeds lately. I would easily be able to get 10Mbps at my desk at work, and I'm lucky to get 3 now. I live in Elgin (but I could hit a golf ball into Hoffman Estates it's so close) but work in Schaumburg right next to Woodfield. Wife was dropping calls like crazy lately, but I'm holding out hope for Sprint in Chicago like the rest of you. My GSIII is waiting at home for me which I'll active tonight, leaving my trusty Epic behind...
