  1. If your phone is already working on Sprint, just pop the SIM card back in once you come home, and boom. You are done! It's that easy!

Awesome!  That's what I was hoping for.  Thanks for the info.

  2. I'm headed back up north to Vancouver on Monday and will likely be there a few times this year.  Planning to pick up a Wind mobile SIM card for the N5 while there since it's essentially all-you-can-eat talk/text/data for C$2/day.  I bought my N5 from Google Play and am not worried about getting it running with Wind, however am concerned about bringing it back home to Sprint since there were challenges activating the N5 in the first place.

Anyone done this - any issues or anything I need to know about?  Or is it as simple as putting the Sprint MicroSIM back in?

    Thanks!

  3. Are you sure it was a confirmed B41 LTE site?  I am very surprised that not more premier sponsors at S4GRU with the Nexus 5 have been testing out B41 LTE especially after it was confirmed by me and Ascertion on the G2 that you can connect to B41 LTE right now.

Waiting for Robert to upgrade my account with premier sponsorship and then I'll do a little testing of my own soon.

Edit:  he did it while I typed!

  4. You got that to work? it keeps telling me that it started with errors and asking me if im rooted (i am)

I'm not rooted on the N5 so that could be the difference.  Although my GS3 was rooted and I never had any issues with tethering on it.

Edit:  I see you're talking about bypassing the official tethering.  I believe discussion of that is verboten on S4GRU.  I pay Sprint for tethering because I believe it's the right thing to do.  There are probably other places on the internet that would help you though.

  5. A Nexus 5 purchased from Google Play does not make a difference.  The chat with tech support provided just a stock answer to get the user off the chat.  This is why I have long said not to bother frontline Sprint employees with these tech questions.  They do not have the information you seek.  You are just wasting time for everyone involved.

Indeed.  I have a white 32GB from the Play Store and it is working fine with LTE here in LA (AlcaLu territory) in areas with known good WiMax coverage (compared against my girlfriend's Ting HTC Detail and my once-upon-a-time NS4G).  I have all bands enabled.  No issues keeping LTE or handing off to eHRPD for me.

  6. Are you using WiFi Tether from Google Play?  If so, do you have WPA2 enabled?  I cannot seem to get mine configured to work properly, however using it wide open works fine.  Would you mind sharing or PM'ing your settings?

I'm using the built-in Android tethering because I pay Sprint for tethering access.  Working fine with WPA2.

  7. I noticed last night that using WiFi tethering uses significantly less battery than it did with my GS3.  Sitting in the same spot with tethering running for 3 hours to my MacBook I went from 88% charge to 65%.  Using the GS3 in the same scenario I would lose about 50-60% battery life.  Not sure what component the difference can be attributed to (WiFi radio, LTE radio, etc) but it was a very pleasant surprise.

  8. Wonder if it's possibly a carrier thing - saw an ATT poster saying his was fine - even posted a screen shot with it showing 97/3, as in 97 characters on the 3rd split

Could be dictated by the SMSC number.  The field has the number in quotes then followed by ,145 perhaps indicating a 145 character limit.  Out of curiosity I tried to change it to ,200 and then it reverted to ,152.  Haven't tried actually counting the characters yet though.

  9. Trying to figure out my SMS sending problem.  Could someone post their SMSC data for me?

    *#*#4636#*#*

    Phone information

Scroll to SMSC: and click "Refresh"

The number I have is not the same as the Sprint number from this page but using switching to that number doesn't seem to work either.  Just wondering what other people have.

  10. SCRTNs are performed on Nexus devices by entering " *#*#72786#*#* " in the dialer. That is usually reserved for troubleshooting network related issues. It basically forces your phone to forget your phone number and activation profile, thus causing your phone to reactivate. If your problem is indeed Google Voice integration related, an SCRTN is unlikely going to solve it. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Try going into the google voice app and change the setting for text from google voice to messaging app.  This is what I had to do on my GNEX to get it to work in hangouts.  I also do have the google voice/sprint integration.

Tried both of these with no luck.  I'll try to fiddle with GV some more.

  11. Settings>More>Mobile Networks>Carrier Settings>Update Profile and PRL If that doesn't solve the problem it might have something to do with Hangouts or Google Voice integration having a conflict. Perhaps a reboot or SCRTN would help. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Yeah I tried that but I'm thinking that it must be related to the Google Voice Sprintegration.  What's a SCRTN and how do I do it?

  12. My N5 is up and running, getting good LTE service and I can make and receive calls just fine.  The only trouble I'm having right now is sending SMS via Hangout.  I receive them, but they won't send.  I'm making do using the Google Voice app for now.  Any ideas?

  13. And sprint comes clean:

I'd imagine that a lower level manager somewhere at Sprint has decided that this is the response that makes people go away for now.  Google & LG certainly won't be thrilled to have manufactured a device with additional hardware/software support for one carrier at significant cost that they can't sell because the carrier needs to change one line in their database.

  14. I suspect the trouble with 32GB activations can be solved by making support inquiries with Google.  From the Google Product Forums thread on this matter it seems as though the number of calls they're receiving about this problem has already prompted the issue to be taken higher up the corporate food chain.  All that really needs to happen is a Google exec needs to tell a Sprint exec to have the MEID added to their database and this will all be done.  The more people who contact Google, the faster this is likely to occur.

  15. I just spoke at length with the Sprint international department, provided SKUs and so on and got a smattering of misinformation.  The first guy I spoke to said the computer wouldn't let him ship the SIM card so I talked to his supervisor.  His supervisor insisted that the Nexus 5 I ordered through Google is GSM and since Sprint is CDMA it won't work.  He advised me to order the "Sprint version" through Sprint directly.  Then when I pointed out that's wrong he said that Google is including everything you need to activate, and that they only use SIM cards for international travel.  So I said I need it for international use (my account would show that I've used my phone recently in Canada and Japan).  He tried to process it but said it wouldn't go through so I need to go to a Sprint store for a SIM card because International Services doesn't ship SIM cards, only activates them.

Then the icing on the cake:  he told me that he had ordered his Nexus 5 from Google yesterday.

So hopefully the situation will be sorted by the time my N5 shows up and I can either waltz in to a Sprint store and procure a SIM card or Google is indeed including all the necessities for activation in the box.
