  1. That agreement was already signed for network use on both 3G and LTE

Sure the agreements signed, but its not technically in effect yet. Ask the guys that live in Beckley, Bluefield, Roanoke, etc. Beckley was upgraded to LTE 6+ months ago but only the ntelos customers are using it. Its still not turned on for Sprint customers.
  2. So Marion county wv (fairmont) is supposedly being upgraded to 4g lte by either sprint or ntelos. I'm guessing ntelos. Both sprint and ntelos have told me that towers are being upgraded the next few weeks after I experienced no data for 4 hours yesterday. Anyone else experience that or been told that?

Better hope its Sprint because only god knows when nTelos will open up the LTE network to us Sprint customers. Since Sprint has only miniscule native WV coverage (parkersburg and wheeling) I think we are all SOL in Mon, Marion, and Harrison counties.
  3. I'm generally an LG guy (2 tv's, fridge, washer/dryer) and quite honestly I don't own a single piece of Samsung electronics. I'm contract free right now and really thought my next phone would be the g3 but I have yet to pull the trigger. After hearing about a 6mm thin metal cased phone I'm seriously considering waiting for this. I know big is all the rage but sometimes I really find myself wanting a more pocketable phone. But I don't want to sacrifice performance and I'm not willing to go to the dark side (apple). So this may actually be my next phone if it truely has the specs I'm hearing about.

  4. So I know this is probably pure speculation and guestimation but where would you put the completion percentage of each of the big 4? I know its never truely 100% complete because of continual upgrades but thinking in terms of how many towers have LTE installed what would the numbers look like

Purely guessing on my part but I'd assume Verizon would be >90%. ATT ?, SPRINT ?, TMO ?

  5. Obviously Verizon got a huge headstart and from all accounts has the best LTE coverage in the US. I've tried to find some reliable data that shows the current status of each of the big 4 carriers showing what percentage of their network is upgraded along with total number of people covered.

I assume that a company like Verizon has all or nearly all of their network upgraded to LTE and since they operate on a lower frequency the extent of their coverage should be quite good. This would lead to a very high population coverage.

A company like tmobile on the other hand may have a large portion of their towers upgraded but since their towers are normally urban and higher frequency the total population covered should be pretty high but the aerial extent of the coverage is likely not that great. It certainly seems like t-mo is being very aggressive in their deployment and from what I've read it seems they have a very fast implementation of LTE.

So I guess what I'm ultimately looking for is some numbers showing what percent of the big 4's network towers have been upgraded, how many people are covered.

I can tell you looking at sensorly maps makes Verizon the obvious leader in coverage with ATT and Sprint looking fairly similar and t-mo appearing to be dead last. But I wonder how much of that is influenced by Sprint customers having unlimited data and ATT users having to monitor their data usage. They may be reluctant to use the app just to keep their data usage down.

From what I hear and read it seems like ATT is well ahead of Sprint and t-mo in terms of deployment but the sensorly maps would disagree. Ive also read that t-mo has passed Sprint in LTE deployment but again sensorly definitely shows sprint with a larger LTE footprint.

    What's the truth?

  6. I've asked this before, but now that a deal has been struck, how much of a priority do you think Morgantown is, considering the college of 30,000+ students?

I've wondered this too and I'd have to think it would be a top priority in both sprint and ntelos eyes. Its one of the largest markets they serve and considering sprint/ntelos is the only provider left in Morgantown that does not offer LTE you would think they'd want to stay competitive. That being said, nothing they've ever done makes me believe my wishes will come true. I'd like to see it turn on soon but I'm not holding my breath.

  7. im in roanoke va i gotta be honest not happy with sprint right now, i found out that there no upgrades coming to roanoke va, becuase sprint is leasing the towers from ntelos, and i have to be honest, if I wanted ntelos i would of signed up with them, but i chose sprint

i love sprint it just why is sprint leasing towers from ntelos in roanoke va

this great person told me on fb that NTelos is a partner of Sprint. NTelos was avoiding the LTE build up until one of their biggest stockholders (Shentel) was about to build Sprint's network if a new agreement was not reached soon. Now Ntelos has play catch-up in their Sprint-approved LTE deployment for every

the reason i like sprint, is becuase of the advantages they have, but I wish i could take advantage of it somewhere besides when i go out of the state

NTelos building out LTE because they are afraid of losing Sprint is useless if they aren't going to let Sprint customers access it. NTelos LTE is live in a couple of markets right now (beckley and Jonesboro) and they refuse to let Sprint customers use it. As far as I'm concerned nTelos needs to die a quick and sudden death.

  8. Here, along with all the usual caveats that accompany CS info, is a chat from nTelos this AM:

Laura: Hello! My name is Laura in the nTelos Care Center. How may I help you?

    you: Good morning, Laura.

    Laura: Good morning.

you: I'm interested in the rollout of 4Google service by nTelos in central Virginia

    Laura: Did you mean 4G?

    you: 4G

Laura: I do not have a list of when 4G will be available in what markets at this time. I am sorry!

    you: Yes

you: Do You Know if Sprint users will have access through nTelos'partnership?

Laura: Are you asking if Sprint users can use nTelos towers?

you: Yes, especially when 4G becomes available

Laura: No, only nTelos customers can use 4G on our towers.

you: So, the partnership does not apply to 4G?

    Laura: It does not.

you: Might there be a change in the future?

Laura: I have not heard anything but I doubt that.

you: Can nTelos customers use 4G on Sprints network?

    Laura: No.

you: Ok. Sounds like the corporate decisions are leaving both customers in the cold. :(

Laura: Not at all. Only nTelos customers can use our 4G network. We only have a contract with Sprint on 3G.

you: Ok. Thanks for the information.

Laura: You're welcome. Did you have any other questions this morning?

    you: No, thanks. Bye.

Laura: Thank you for chatting with us. We value your feedback. Please click the Close button at top right to answer a few questions about your experience with us today.

Thank you for chatting with us. Please click the "Close" button on the top right of the chat window to tell us how we did today.

I particularly liked her denial that customers are left out in the cold.

So, we Sprint folks in nTelos land may be left with hoping for a Sprint buyout or build out, not sure which.

thanks for posting the chat transcript. It verifies everything we've heard so far. It certainly is not looking good for us Sprint customers in nTelos territory.

  9. shawneyboy123 and a few other forum members live in areas where nTelos LTE has been live for a couple of months now and as far as I can tell no Sprint customers have been able to access nTelos LTE.

The only instance I know of a Sprint customer accessing what I assume is the nTelos network is over in the Teays Valley west of Charleston. But as someone already stated it was likely just a case of them flipping a switch temporarily for testing purposes.

  10. My roommate recently received the standard network upgrade in the next month text. I, however, have not. Both on Sprint. This is in Roanoke, VA. Generally 240k down and 80k up using speed test. I normally don't venture in to the store often as they generally don't know anything useful, but all these posts have me hopeful for LTE soon in the area.

I received that text the other day and I'm in Morgantown WV. I can say with almost 100% certainty that Morgantowns NV upgrades are not going to be complete Amy time soon.

The Sprint text is a BS blanket text.

  11. Posted Image Just kinda looking around Sensorly out of boredom when I noticed this.... Someone recorded a Sprint LTE signal pretty deep into nTelos territory... At least according to the maps.

would've been awesome if the person doing the mapping would've taken a screen cap with the signal check pro information.

Whoa! That's odd. The signal near the Ohio river doesn't surprise me but that stuff near Nitro is definitely a surprise. Considering there are no other signs of Sprint LTE even in Beckley and Waynesburo it makes me think that maybe the Nitro area is being overbuilt by Sprint.
  13. Morgantown is in nTelos' 2014 build out plans for LTE. But we can't connect. Just some faster, usable at times 3G speeds.

Have you talked recently to any Sprint or nTelos reps in Beckley? What do sprints reps have to say when you ask them about nTelos LTE? And what about nTelos reps, are they still saying sprint customers won't be allowed on their LTE towers?
