  1. We're probably fine then, I think SouthernLINC is more Georgia oriented. The real bummer is that I just bought a new phone that won't support it, so my service is going to be relatively lame until my next upgrade. But hey, it might take that long for the 800MHz rollout to happen here, so I guess no need to rush things on the device side of things anyway.
  2. Yea, too bad it will be 2 years before I can upgrade to a device that supports it. Also, I'm not sure how close we are to the SouthernLINC market area, but we may not see 800MHz here if they own that spectrum here.
  3. The VA side of Bristol is where most of the work needs to be finished, at least in that area. There are 4 towers in Kingsport that are not done, 1 in Gate City, 5 in Johnson City (4 of which are downtown / near ETSU -_-), and 5 in Bristol area (4 of which are on the VA side). That makes up the 20% or so of towers that are not yet done in the area. FWIW, even in areas where there are no un-upgraded towers near me and I am surrounded by upgraded towers, the coverage is still spotty. All of the towers along the 75 between Gray and the Sprint call center in Bristol are upgraded, but I just made that drive and got 4g exactly zero times. My Tunein radio dropped 4 times on the way there and back. Sprint is going to need to add sites to cover this area, too many places with bad reception due to the hills.
  4. I think it might depend on whether you are on an NV tower or not. The tri cities is 80%+ upgraded towers per the member maps here; Knoxville is not so that might be why it was working fine for me. I hope more people call in and put pressure on Sprint to fix it, its an annoying issue and they don't seem to have any idea that it's happening when I call them.
  5. Thanks, I hope they fix this soon. It's a relatively irritating problem, but I installed some SMS time fix app from the Play store to bandaid it for now.
  6. I think iPhones/Samsungs do the text message based on the time the message is received, whereas HTC's software does it based on what time the tower is telling it the message was sent. That's just my theory anyway, I have no idea why this is happening. Can you have your dad call in and make them put a ticket in or something? He's not the only one with an issue, but if not enough people call they may never get around to fixing it.
  7. Anyone else having an issue in the past few days where text messages received have a time stamp an hour behind? This seems to only happen when I am connected to Sprint towers in the Tri-Cities or Greeneville. Works fine in Knoxville, or if I'm roaming, or if I'm on the Airave. We have 3 HTC Ones all running the latest software in our house, and everyone is having the same issue. My friend with his iPhone is not, however.

Mine does this too in certain areas. I usually have a very strong signal, but it will take ages to reconnect the 3G data. Seems to happen most often between towers. It's frustrating because most of the towers this happens on are in a launched market (Kingsport, TN) or on others towers that have been 3G/4G upgraded just outside that market. I have two One's and it happens on both. My understanding was that NV upgrades should have eliminated this kind of problem. 800MHZ launch wont do anything for this problem either :/
  9. Out of the 3 companies mentioned I think Lenovo would be best since Lenovo tends to be higher quality. I'd rather see HTC turn itself around without being bought out though.

Got the new red today from Wirefly, and the SIM they sent me was defective No 4G for me until they get another one out my way. The phone is absolutely beautiful though, a lot less dull looking in person than the photos make it look.

Sure, I had this last time I went up to Gate City. I will try to grab a screenshot next time I am up there.

My HTC One displays "1X" when it is on a 1x network type. This is with the stock ROM, so I think your statement might not apply to the HTC One.

My One has similar issues. I have done a hard reset and even applied the stock RUU posted over at XDA. I re-activated it and did the update programming and PRL, but the issues continue. The phone gets "stuck" on 1X or 3G and refuses to go to 3G or 4G even though there is a strong signal present. Additionally, at times (especially on 3G) the phone will show it has a good 3G signal but data will not work at all. Toggling the data almost always fixes this. It may just depend on your area, but I have been very disappointed in the One's performance on Sprint's network relative to other phones on Sprint's network in my area.

I had the same problem on my One, on both the stock ROM after I unlocked it, and on the custom ROM I am using. If you disable USB debugging it comes right back on when you plug it in. I know when I used one of the international ROMs that was ported to Sprint, I did not have this problem. On the Sprint viperROM it is set to USB debugging by design, not sure if there is an easy way to fix it. You could try to use the RUU posted on XDA to put the phone at 100% stock and see if it continues.

You don't need root for this one that I used. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2254578 As a side note, I changed my LTE Scan from 300 to 5 and drove into Gray today. I held 4G the entire time in Gray this time even while I was driving, unlike last time. I put the phone in my pocket and it went down to 3G. When I took it back out, it picked up 4G in 20 seconds. Not nearly as bad as it was before, although this is just 1 trip and is anecdotal evidence (also not raining this time either).

The LTE Scan Time was set to 300 on my phone. As I understand it, the most recent update for the Evo LTE adjusted that to 5. I adjusted my LTE scan time to 5 and I will report my results. The adjustment can be made on the ##DATA# screen. You will need your MSL, but it's not hard to get (there's a thread on XDA for how to get that).

What I am seeing with the One is not bad reception, but the fact that it will not switch to 4G as easily as other phones. When it's on 4G it's great, but once it goes back to 3G it takes forever to switch back to 4G. It seems like there is a threshold in the phone where it prefers 3G if it's slightly stronger than 4G, even though 4G would be the better choice. I might experiment with putting the One into LTE only. If I can get 4G while driving with it set that way, then I know for sure it is a software issue that needs fixing and not the network.

The HTC One seems to have a really hard time acquiring 4G and holding on to it compared to the GS4 in my area. I've done the PRL update and Profile update and hard reset, but it's just been a frustrating experience. My tower does not broadcast 4G but I can get 500kbps most of the time on just 1 bar of signal. If I go where I know there is 4G, the 3G barely works at all even with strong reception. I am talking maybe a spotty 75kbps at most. My phone will not pick up 4G even in a strong signal area unless I am completely stationary for a few minutes. Once the phone picks up the 4G signal I have gotten 15mbps on speed tests, but once that 4G signal is gone it won't come back. There are many others online complaining of issues like this, at XDA and elsewhere. I am really hoping some kind of radio update comes out for this phone and soon. I have it in a plastic case so there is no issue of me holding it wrong.
  19. What are some areas where you find strong 4G? I want to go there with my HTC One and see if I can get reception. The reason I ask is that on my HTC One I can barely get 4G anywhere in Johnson City. I got it once when I was stationary at Taco Bell in Gray, and once while I was stationary at the Wendy's in Boones Creek. I have never gotten 4G while driving even on major arteries like I-26 or State of Franklin. Based on what I see elsewhere online it seems like he HTC One might have serious 4G/LTE problems with some areas of Sprint's NV rollout =/ I want to test it at known strong locations before I consider returning the phone.
  20. There are many places where one can only receive a 1xRTT or EvDO signal due to the frequency LTE is being deployed on currently. Even when LTE is in the 800MHz range, I have been made to understand that you will have to have a better signal to have a reliable VoLTE call versus a call over the older 1x network. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but based on that I don't think CDMA is going away for a long time.
  21. My local tower has been down for 3+ days (I noticed I've been on Roaming for the past few days even when outside my house where I normally got 3-4 bars). I called in and the rep mentioned it is currently undergoing "upgrades". I can't help but to wonder if the tower is undergoing a Network Vision upgrade for the enhanced 3G speeds and LTE support. If so, that's pretty exciting stuff. I never would have imagined our area would be part of the Nashville market being so far east from it, or that any of the towers here would be live before denser cities like Knoxville/Chattanooga (thanks for the info chappo2000 and lordsutch!) I might have to upgrade to an LTE phone early!
  22. Since Sprint started selling the iPhone, 3G is unusable in most areas of Johnson City (especially near ETSU). You can have full bars and won't be able to pull up Google.com. North of Johnson City in Gray, even with only 1-2 bars of signal I can get 200kbps and browse with 3G. The site that shows scheduled upgrades for our area has showed a capacity upgrade scheduled for pretty much every tower in Johnson City within the next 6 months. If I recall correctly, it's been about 6 months since I last looked at the site and the capacity upgrades were still showing as being scheduled for within 6 months. I read in the Charlotte thread that certain companies (CenturyLink being the one mentioned by name) are lagging in giving Sprint the backhaul they need. Unfortunately, I live in the one tiny part of Tennessee that is unlucky enough to be served by CenturyLink (1.5mbps DSL is the fastest many can get from them out here; no PRISM either, even in the city - can you say welcome to 1999?) My question is this: Do you think this will change the timeframe for when LTE gets launched here by either moving it up, pushing it back, or not at all? It's a small market, but since Verizon and AT&T have LTE here, I assume Sprint will eventually put LTE in this area as well (especially since we were skipped over for WiMax). It seems like they might accelerate their plans to upgrade the area since the network quality is so poor, but at the same time if they are at the mercy for CenturyLink they might not be able to upgrade us for months or even years based on when CenturyLink gets around to providing the backhaul.
