  1. ...And most importantly, will there be enough bandwidth to provide 4K after the loss of 600MHz? If there was enough spectrum out there, only the big network names will be in 4k. They could have duplicate stream on another channel but it be the 4k channel. Wouldn't have to go through any distribution program.

    ...

Just wanted to mention that 4K will be using HEVC encoding which is way more efficient than the MPEG-2 used for current HD broadcasting.

  2. My coworker switched to Sprint under the 50% off promo. He pays the same rate I do with SERO, but his plan includes his iPhone leases. So for the same price I pay for my SERO, he gets free iPhones. They also gave him north of $400 to switch. But, because I'm on a "cut rate" "fraudulent" SERO plan, I didn't even earn the $50 referral bonus.

I should be complaining about that! But instead people treat me like a thief on here because I earned SERO legitimately and would like to keep my plan.

Also, hotspot is included in the new plans. I believe SERO customers have to pay extra for this.

  3. That whole situation is weird. If VZW were doing this the Magentans would be the same people laughing at Verizon for, say, forcing manufacturers to pull Band 13 access, for example.

It's not that simple. My guess is that T-Mobile withholds approval of band 12 on a handset until they can test and validate it can handle the various cartwheels it needs the device to turn in order to be compliant with some of their concurrent operating agreements.

You can read more about what those devices have to do in order to be compliant here: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/ApplicationSearch/applAdmin.jsp?applID=9040203#attachments (click on the Engineering Statement)

  4. Yes, that is the report, though unverified.  But the V5 CSIM is supposed to work in all Sprint devices that use a 4FF nano SIM.

    OK, thanks.

It is a bit annoying that 446C is somewhat hard to find. A couple days ago I went to the main corp. Sprint store with an actual repair lab in it in town (serves as such an area of at least half a million people) and they didn't have them. Also tried a regular corp store and they didn't have them either. Ended up having the int'l dept send me one.

  5. So, is the latest available SIM (SIMGLW446C, right?) backwards compatible with all previous nano-SIM devices? In other words, does one need to worry about all this SIM compatibility business if one has the SIM that is already most current one used by Sprint?

  6. Sucks that shipping is delayed, but nice that it's unlocked. Post impressions when you get the phone. I was between the Nexus 5x and A9 and ultimately went with the Nexus because the battery size of the A9 was a concern. I do like the size, build quality, and uh oh protection that the A9 offers.

I wouldn't hold it past HTC to use a generic confirmation page and for the phone to actually still be delivered locked. I would be interested to recieve confirmation of the unlocked status by someone who's been delivered the Sprint variant by HTC just in case.

BTW, I saw the phone at a store yesterday. Seems pretty nice in the hand. A bit bothered by the tiny battery though.

  7. There are massive amounts of maps for just about (if not every market) on S4GRU, feel free to support the site and upgrade your membership level (not sure if you've been a sponsor in the past or not). Maps for b26 should be Premier Sponsor level access unless it's changed. The most you can get without having access yourself is a 'yes there's b26 in your market' which is pretty much what Sprint will tell you, although information here tends to be a bit better.

Other than that, to the best of my knowledge, there isn't some special method for phones to just 'know' what signals are in the area unless they're connected to them or pick them up when they scan for them (logging in SignalCheck can help with this if you do not like to/cannot keep an eye on your phone constantly like most of us).

Thanks but checking maps isn't that much help in this case because Sprint itself is already claiming that this SPECIFIC site is broadcasting B26 publically. However, I have seen 0% improvement in in-building recpetion in a building that's located less than half a mile from the site. When 1x800 rolled out a year ago it solved all of the voice issues in this building although I do realize that 1x is a more robust signal than LTE but like I said, if what Sprint is telling me is true, I would have expected to have at least seen some improvement but I have seen none at all.

  8. Signalcheck lite/pro or engineering screens can tell you what band you're connected to. Otherwise you can look at the b26 maps in your area (if you're a premier sponsor, or crappatalk so cannot tell xD).

Yes, I am aware I can tell what band I am presently on. Sprint claims B26 is already lit though so I would like some way of verifying this as I strongly suspect what they are telling me is wrong.

  9. Is there any way on the N5X that I can tell which LTE bands are currently broadcasting? Sprint tells me they have enabled B26 on the tower I am on. I am almost certain they providing me with incorrect information but I would like to check for sure if I can (the reason I am suspicious is that besides experiencing no coverage improvement whatsoever when losing B25 signal indoors, about a year and a half ago for example we lost B25 completely on the same tower and it took Sprint almost a month to fix it, while for the first two or three weeks they were insisting there was no problem at all when there most certainly was, with everyone with Sprint I know of having lost their LTE signal during that time).

  10. *73 is no answer forwarding and *74 is busy forwarding. *28 is just a short way of enabling both of them at the same time. There shouldn't be any cost with these.

*72 is unconditional call forwarding (forward all calls, your mobile will not even ring). Last I checked, if you are not on a plan which includes unlimited minutes then every minute is 20 cents.

  11. i cant get google voice to take over my voicemail duties.  i call the number the set up tells me to with *28 but it just rings and rings and voicemail is still stuck with the sprint system.  i seem to remember it is just suppose to ring like once isnt it?

I called Sprint about this a couple days ago. Apparently you can't use *28 anymore. You need to issue the two types of conditional forwarding (*73 and *74) separately. I tried it and it works, at least for me. They said they will fix the info. on the website to correct this but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

  12. I tried to ask HTC if the phone comes unlocked and as hard as I tried to explain to them what I was asking they weren't really getting it but from what I can tell it appears that the phone does indeed ship locked from them. Will want to get confirmation when folks get the actual units from HTC. Given that the device is good for T-Mobile and AT&T (read: higher resale value), personally I wouldn't buy it if it was locked since it's basically impossible to get Sprint to unlock a device even if purchased at full price while one (like myself) is still under contract for another device (which is a shame I think).

  13. I think it will (at which point it can be used on T-Mobile, too), however I haven't yet received direct confirmation of this. FWIW, I was told by someone that all purchases directly from HTC.com are unlocked.

I hope so. Should work pretty well on AT&T too if so (I believe at this point AT&T is supposed to have MFBI deployed throughout their network).

  14. I hope you don't mind if I add my two cents. I couldn't get the native visual voicemail in marshmallow to work. In my reading, it appears it only works on T-Mobile right now. I went back to using Google voice.

With as much as Sprint tries to push you to go to the "premium" version of their own visual voicemail product I can see why they might not desire any other voicemail app to work with their VM (as they would lose the ability to incessantly nag you to upgrade).

I have google voice voicemail (but not full Sprint number integration) turned on in google voice as a replacement for the Sprint voicemail but at least on my current phone I find that around 15-20% of calls somehow slip through and end up in the Sprint voicemail nonetheless. This is very annoying and really concerns me when I will activate my 5X. I haven't dared enable full google voice integration since having a ton of issues with it when I had enabled integration a couple years ago that forced me to disable the integration a few weeks after turning it on.

I will keep the Google voice mail as the main voice mail on my number with the 5X but what options do I have as far as notifications from the Sprint voice mail if some calls keep getting through to it? Is it possible to install Sprint's crappy VM app on a non-branded phone? Any other alternatives?

I suppose I might also consider full reintegration with GV but after the horrendous experience a couple years ago I am afraid to try it (I missed a lot of important phone calls which went to lala land - no voicemail would even pick up; even worse, sometime it made it appear as if my number was inoperative). I should note that in the beginning GV integration worked fine but then went on the fritz about five or six weeks later.

  15. Did you try signing out and in?  I viewed mine and it showed as pending as usual but then I had to sign in to play with the "Find my android" features and when i went back to check it again itshowed shipped.  So either I got lucky and caught it right when they updated it or signing in did something.

Tried it. Still says pending. Regardless of whether I sign out or not though, the page does appear to be refreshing OK for me as I can see the "ordered however long ago..." time changing. Also, for that amount, my credit card will text me as soon as there is a charge, plus I have not yet received any emails from Google about my order (not sure if I am supposed to until it goes out of pending status).

  16. Just wanted to chime in on a few of these Sprint costs/fees issues, from my personal perspective:

I think charging $10 as a convenience fee to get a SIM quicker is fine, in the context of the fact that other, free options exist. However, what I think is important is to be consistent within the same distribution channel. Meaning, if there is not supposed to be a charge at corporate stores then there shouldn't be any which do charge, or if authorized sellers can charge one then there should be a consistent amount charged in that channel.

With respect to activation fees on newly purchased devices... I believe some of the other carriers do this too so in that context I think it's okay. I just wish the charge would be a lot more evident on the front end, not buried in the last page of an order. This would make it easier to compare these charges between the different carriers

As for SERO... As long as Sprint itself is cool with it I don't see why anyone else should have a problem with it. Sprint is under no legal obligation to maintain these contracts under their current terms past their renewal dates. They could easily inform customers that upon the end of their contract different terms will apply. They kind of did that before when they went from original SERO to SERO-P and it's also somewhat like how Big Red just upped the price of old unlimited data plans by $20/month. However, Sprint is choosing not to do this and as long as they don't then I see no problems with folks continuing to use SERO.
