Why can't Sprint simply repurpose the Nextel spectrum in the Seattle area for LTE if it's an area where they already provided service? Why does switching from iDEN to CDMA/LTE make any difference within the same coverage footprint?
-
Looks like they just turned the site at Yarrow Bay up. I just started picking up an LTE signal this afternoon on the Note 3.

It looks like Bellevue gained the most with yesterdays update. Things are moving along quickly.

Good to see. Hoping the site in Clyde Hill and Yarrow Bay come online soon.

The race to the finish line. Which group of sites will go live next, central Seattle or Bellevue?
-
Well they will do 800 eventually but it will be a few years, but I feel your pain. At least we can still get hd voice over 1900, that's something...
Thanks Canada! always ruining things for us....
Yeah, I know 800 will come eventually after the bureaucrats kiss and play nice with each other.
Not too much pain for me at the moment. My device seems to keep the 4G indicator most places I travel on a day to day basis. Though it would be nice if the site at Yarrow Bay would wake up. I know it's broadcasting a super weak b41 signal that tri-band devices pick up, while single band devices stay on 3G.

The site closest to me was just accepted a few weeks ago, then flipped to 3G/4G a week or so later. It's all good to see after seeing so little activity for so long. Just a shame they can't do 800 here.

Lots of progress in the Seattle area lately. Looking at the maps, it looks like only a few clusters or red dots remain (Bellevue and central/south Seattle). Hopefully those will be taken care of soon, then the rest of the red and purple markers will start flipping to yellow.
-
I'm not sure with the tri-phone. With my EVO LTE, one radio can be connected to a 1XRTT signal (even a different tower), while the LTE radio is also connected. Check out the SignalCheck app, the app will show you signal information.
You have a tri band phone, so I don't know. It might fall under the eCSFB
Check this article for more info: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-357-nexus-5-and-lg-g2-experience-temporary-sprint-lte-connectivity-issues-due-to-circuit-switched-fallback-technology/
The same site just changed to 4G accepted a few days ago. I've since rechecked a tri-band device or two and they are all now picking up the LTE signal. The reason I asked about the different radios picking up different towers is the signal strength shows varies widely between 1x and LTE.

Came home this evening and happened to glance at my phone and notice the 4GLTE icon on my Note 3. The icon has been steady all night, with the signal hovering around -90. I think the site at Juanita Beach finally had the 4G switch flipped. My old S3 is also showing the 4GLTE indicator.
I also happen to have an S4 Tri-Band here with me as well and it isn't seeing LTE at all.
Question...
Can a device pick up two different sites at the same time? One for 1xRTT and another for LTE?

I've checked the last couple days but nothing yet. It seems like it took about a week after the last update was announced before I got it.

Most of the software updates get pushed out over a period of time. Nothing unusual.

This is very good news for us. Just got this automated text.

I just got one of those text messages a few minutes ago. Good news. Maybe the one just down the street in Juanita and by my office in Yarrow bay will go live soon.

They are in a mad dash to bring up NV 3G in King County because of the CSFB problem. They have recently launched 3G clusters in the South Sound. They are scrambling to finish up all of King County soon. I would have to imagine the first King clusters are coming soon. After they fire up the NV 3G upgrades and CSFB is accessible from them, then all the existing Band 41 sites can be used by Triband smart phones. Then they will go back and fire up Band 25 LTE on the NV 3G sites that have had their backhaul upgraded. Last they will add LTE to the remaining sites one by one as upgraded backhaul is ready at each complete NV site. It will feel like nothing is going on until the upgraded 3G clusters start firing up. Then the acceptances will start occurring more frequently. We have been watching this same pattern occur in other Samsung markets over and over all winter. Thanks Robert (and Bumbershoot). I figured it was something along those lines.

Does anyone have any insight why nothing really seems to be happening in King County? Mostly the East - West corridor that stretches from just north of Lake Washington, South to the Kent/Renton area (the solid blotch of purple). Are the crews just busy in other parts of WWA? Are there issues that are holding up progress? Waiting for backhaul? Will the crews eventually descend en masse on King County?
Just a curiosity as I've observed the maps over time. Lots of purple and very little red or yellow, with lots of tiny red dots.
I do like the small red dots for sites that are still waiting for upgrades, but it's also kind of sad just to see how many there are.

Is that one of the cities up there that doesn't really like having cell towers around?
That seems to describe the entire Seattle/Eastside area pretty well. All the red and yellow north and south, with nothing but purple around Lake Washington.
-
Yeah. There have been lots of updates the last few days. Let's hope it keeps up AND that the King county sites start turning yellow.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. There has to be a reason. One thing that jumps out is it appears most of the purple sites are King Co. I wonder if this is a permit issue. Anyone been watching the purple sites? I wonder if legacy panels are still located on the site. It may also be a Samsung vendor issue. It is interesting
Maybe they'll flip the switch day and date with the announcement that WW is an LTE market.

Looks like exciting times are upon us here at West Washington! LTE must be coming...Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Or the people doing the approvals take another month long vacation.

It's interesting that north and south of the Seattle area is all red and yellow, but the area right around Seattle is all purple. Hopefully, we see more of those in changing to yellow in the near future.

Possible I suppose, though the next closest towers with LTE are North Juanita, West near St Edwards park, and South well past Forbes creek. None of those impact the south Juanita area.

Last Wednesday, I checked my phone while waiting for the bus at 98th & 116th in Juanita (right by Michael's and was surprised to see a steady 4G LTE on my S3. It was only one bar and the connection wasn't speedy, but the signal was steady. Hoping they finish whatever they are doing to that site and turn it up soon.

so you are able to pickup lte on 2500 or 1900 band?
1900 is available in quite a few areas around the Puget Sound area. I've not seen any 2600 connections as of yet.
-
N5, Mini, Mega, G2
Kirkland, WA 98033 & 98034
GS3 connects to LTE just fine where it's available, but the above will not connect.
-
I noticed that my phone was in 4G here in the south Juanita area for a few seconds the other day when I was sitting at the intersection of 116th and 98th. I'd seen it before, several months ago, but not since then. It would be nice if they would get site next to Juanita Beach up and running full time. I also noticed a 4G icon for a couple of seconds when I was at work in Yarrow Bay.
One of these days...

59 updates?!
What happened, did they hire someone to do acceptances or did he come back from leave?
Either way, some good news.

Thanks. It just seemed odd that in an area where they already provided service in that spectrum, Sprint wouldn't be able to quickly and easily convert it to LTE.
