  1. I was picking up 1X800 on my GS4 last night, and it was even over riding the Air Rave I was asking questions about in this thread. It was a surprise to see. I even turned off the Air Rave and went in the basement and still was able to hold a call with no drops. I am hoping it's not just a testing phase, and they leave it up and running, so I can move away from the AR. I have to place the AR in front of my router for the time being, as it's not happy behind it. I've read many mixed reviews about opening ports and setting a static ip to get it working. Anyway, I am hoping 1X800 is here to stay.
  2. Thanks for all the tips. I will have to look at adding some $$ for sponsorship. I do have wifi through Comcast, so before getting the Air Rave we were using Talktone/Google Voice for a couple weeks. My wife was having one hell of a time trying to get used to it, so the Air Rave is a huge help. I am wondering how far the 800 Voice will cover for calls once they get it turned up.
  3. Hi does anyone know the progress of the LTE 800 deployment? I live in Byron Center and the coverage in spots is pretty poor. I picked up an Airrave for $40 bux on Ebay and Sprint added it for no monthly fee, but I would like to remove it from in front of my Asus router when I don't need it. I've heard that the 800 band is a work in progress, but don't know how far along things are. So far the LTE 1900 has been really nice around GR. We have GS4's and one iphone 5 in the house, so hopefully they work with the 800 band.
  4. Thanks ChadBroChillz! I was hoping it would work, but wasn't sure. I know for international roaming it was pulling up AT&T, I guess that would explain the GSM A129 model. He mentioned paying about $1,500 for it, so I guess they are very expensive in Japan. We will probably work on getting him a new iPhone with Sprint.
  5. Good evening S4GRU members. My son recently moved in with us from Okinawa, Japan. Ironically, he has an iPhone 5 with Softbank that he brought with him. We were wondering if a Sprint SIM card will work with his phone, so he can utilize it here. If not we were debating selling it and taking the money over to a new contract with Sprint. Thanks for any advice!! Also, the 4G LTE here in Grand Rapids is more noticeable every week.
  6. Hey guys I saw this on my way home today. I am thinking they are Sprint LTE tower antennas, but not for certain. The truck/trailer was going north on the East Beltline near 44th St. I am hoping they were for Sprint towers!! Enjoy, and sorry for uploading to Flickr since they were over my upload quota for the site. 1) http://flic.kr/p/efkiE5 2) http://flic.kr/p/efkiQ7 3) http://flic.kr/p/efez1n
  7. 4G LTE showed up today near Cascade Rd. and Burton in Grand Rapids. It's nice to see the project moving along. Speedtest yielded 4.78MB down and 3.06 up with a 64ms ping time. I can't wait for them to light up the towers in the Ada area as well.
  8. Thanks, I work pretty close to there. I've also noticed a tower in Cascade that has updated 3G, but that is the only one I've run into so far. I am hoping we get fully cut over to LTE soon, the 3G coverage in some places around GR is pretty bad. Thanks to Robert for his response as well.
  9. Robert, is there any chance West Michigan (Grand Rapids) will get started with the LTE rollout? Local store managers are telling customers 1Q. I was wondering if this could be verified or not, since West Michigan wasn't on the updated list.
  10. Very well written Robert. Nice job clearning up some of the recents comments.
  11. Here in Olathe, KS the 4G was discoverable for about the last 3 days. I believe it was being throttled; and this morning as Sprint promised it was unleashed. On my wife's HTC EVO LTE I am seeing download speeds of 12 to 15 mbps, and upload of 8 to 15 with only 2 to 3 bars of service. It's pretty amazing. I threw a YouTube 1080p video at it for fun, and it didn't buffer once. I have tested the 3G speeds on my EVO 4G, and they are not that impressive yet, as I think they are still updating CDMA. I am seeing 1 to 1.5 mbps down and about .5 up. Sprint has truly taken a huge step in the right direction, and I have faith things will get a lot better for the company.
  12. Robert, thanks for the update. I updated my wife's phone (LTE EVO 4G) this morning. Profile+PRL and it flashed on 4G and went back to 3G in Olathe. Since she has been at work near 135 & Switzer in Overland Park she reported that it's now connected on 4G. I've been trying to get a speedtest from her, but she hasn't had time yet. We are pretty geeked about it.
  13. Thanks Robert and company. Good to know you are from GR. Michigan is beautiful in the summer but the snow and ice in winter get old. My wife and daughter are there visiting and enjoying the nice cool summer weather. We are supposed to hit 102 in KC tomorrow, but better than the cold. Yeah, when you port from Boost they said it can take up to 5 biz days, at least they told me that up front. I made the mistake of calling cust service before going back to the store on the 6th day. They were clueless until I got to someone in Colorado (one of their call centers for tier 2). They tried porting it and in the middle of it called me back on the phone number that was being ported. It was a confusing mess and they didn't call back after I was cut off. The other thing they did was charge $36 for a new number activation, that was a temp number during the time before the port. They also prorated charges for that number on the plan. I was furious when I saw my monthly bill and then called to dispute it. They fought it at first but gave in once I had the right supervisor on the phone. The bill went from 227 to 175 for 2 EVO’s on a family shared 1500 minute plan. They said it will go down some more next month when the taxes get straightened out. Honestly, I forgive them and I am very happy it's over with. I also hope we can avoid anyone else going through the same headaches. I filled in the rep at the store so he was going to escalate to his acct exec. I still have to fill in some of my friends who work at Sprint. By the way, the reason we changed from Boost IDEN is because in Olathe they are shutting down Nextel/Boost, and the phone was working on/off for about 2 weeks. I can’t wait for the NV update to complete so my 3G will be faster, and the wife’s new EVO LTE will work at hopefully warp speed.
  14. Hello everyone in the KC metro and everywhere else. I live in Olathe, KS and I am originally from Grand Rapids, MI. Anyway, just wanted to say hello and ask a question. Recently I bought the new EVO 4G LTE for my wife, and it was a fiasco moving/porting her number from Boost Mobile (IDEN) Moto i1. It took almost a week, 2 rounds of customer service calls, totaling about 3 hours and 2 hold to disconnects, threats of going to the Sprint Campus to talk to former account reps and many conversations with the rep at an Olathe store who was very helpful. There is more to the story, but does anyone know why there is such a huge disconnect when porting a number in addition to billing discrepancies? I was at the point of leaving Sprint, but due to many friends working there, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Thanks
