FYI: there is an increasing number of people on the Pixel forum reporting the exact issue I'm experiencing—complete loss of signal, seemingly when handing off between towers.
To recap:
I've seen this issue routinely in DC and NYC on Sprint. I've tried re-seating the SIM, resetting the network settings, updating my CDMA profile and the PRL, all with no effect.
It definitely appears related to tower hand-offs, maybe involving Band 41 specifically. Was hoping the 7.1.1 update would resolve it, but it sounds like that won't happen. I was also considering a factory reset or an RMA, but from those above, that sounds hopeless. -
Saw it happen yesterday but that was actually the first time I noticed it in the six weeks I've had the device.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
I noticed it most while on a fast-moving train, and moving through NYC -- both situations where I would expect frequent handoffs. I haven't seen it nearly as much when I'm stable.
Thanks for the data point.

Has anyone noticed their device dropping from a perfect LTE signal to no signal, momentarily, then returning to full signal? This has occurred for me since I got the device (regular Pixel). This happens many times a day during active usage in multiple major markets.
Not sure if it's just a software bug, maybe related to this one, which will be patched soon, a Sprint network problem, a tower hand-off issue, a SIM card problem, or a device problem. If the last of those, I want to RMA quickly.
Thoughts? Thanks!

My handset was delivered this afternoon. After unboxing and topping off the battery, Sprint online activation sailed through without a hitch, opting to reuse the universal 3-1 in one CSIM UICC from my Nexus 5X. The online activation tool automatically recognized the IMEI/MEID as that of a Google Pixel XL. In my online account manager, the active device and its avatar even immediately updated to the Google Pixel XL, correct color and storage options.
This was my experience as well. I also used a universal SIM (I had to call four stores before I found one with it in stock). The Sprint website recognized the device as a Pixel (regular) immediately upon entering the IMEI/MEID. Very smooth transition, including Sprint Google Voice integration.

You are forgetting Black Friday sales.
The LG Nexus 5X was $80 off on November 27th, 2015.
Fair enough. If temporary sales qualify, that makes sense.
-
You may need to improve your inference skills. From the dates that I provided, you can infer factually that the sale price occurred before January 2016 and that my credit card price protection benefit exceeds 30 days.
AJ
The 5X launched on 9/29/15. (http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/09/29/the-nexus-5x-is-official-snapdragon-808-usb-type-c-and-nexus-imprint-fingerprint-sensor/)
The phone shipped around 10/19/15. (http://www.droid-life.com/2015/10/19/for-those-who-ordered-a-nexus-5x-your-phone-is-shipping-today/). You stated you preordered. (I will grant I'm assuming your preorder led to the standard shipping date.) Preorders are charged as they ship.
The date of the first official price drop was January 12, 2016. This is easily verifiable (take your pick: http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/01/12/deal-alert-google-drops-the-nexus-5x-price-to-349-for-16gb-399-for-32gb-in-the-us-google-store-30-off/ http://www.droid-life.com/2016/01/12/nexus-5x-is-now/ http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/13/10760094/google-nexus-5x-price-cut-349). The price drop was $30.
The number of days between those two dates is 85. For a person to have received a credit, his or her protection plan must have been at least 85 days. Anything less was insufficient. Some plans last 60 days (see the Citi plan referenced above). Some last 90 (see this Discover plan: https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/member-benefits/price-protection.html?icmpgn=publichelpcenter).
Even if a protection plan lasted 90 days, the credit should have been $30.
∴ Anyone planning to take the advice to rely on a price protection plan when placing a preorder shipping 10/20 should be aware that, if there is a price drop which follows previous patterns (already unlikely given the upmarket shift), a 60 day plan is unlikely to help. Even a 90 day plan historically would have only returned you $30.
-
I answered all of that in my previous post. And I checked my archived e-mail from December last year to confirm that I did receive an $80 price protection credit.
AJ
The key question, not answered in what you wrote, is the duration of your price protection policy. For instance, Citi Price Rewind works for 60 days. You'll be charged as the phone ships--around 10/20. That means you'll only get a credit with that policy if a price drop occurs by December 19, 2016. Last year's price drop occurred around 1/12/16, so it would be outside the rewind range if the charge occured on the same date last year.
(Why you got a credit when the price drop didn't occur until January is a bit of a mystery).
-
No, I definitely received a price protection credit. I believe it was $80 in December last year for a Nexus 5X preordered immediately after the announcement event.
AJ
When did you buy it and how long is your price protection period? Looks to me like the drop was $30 in January (with that phone being launched at the same time last year): http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/01/12/deal-alert-google-drops-the-nexus-5x-price-to-349-for-16gb-399-for-32gb-in-the-us-google-store-30-off/

What's in the box is on the product page
Right. I was just pointing out a few of them. Most didn't come in the box with Nexus devices.
-
I predict that credit card price protection may come in handy. Combine the significantly negative price reaction on the Interwebs with the upcoming holiday season, and I would not be the least bit surprised to see a sale with $50-150 shaved off current prices. That happened with at least one of the Nexus handsets a year or two ago if I recall correctly.
AJ
Some prior Nexus phones came down, but usually not by much at first, and probably outside the range of any price protection periods. And now that Google is switching to a premium pricing model, who knows if they'll do discounts again.

I think I missed where it said free Day Dream...
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the lack of front facing speakers...

Black 32 on the way. It's pretty much everything I've been asking for from Google for some time. The fact that we knew every spec from leaks made the announcement slightly less exciting, but still exactly what I wanted.
The only fun things we didn't know in advance:
- There is an RGB notification light.
- A ton of wires and accessories (OTG dongle?) come in the box.
- Free Daydream (maybe can sell for like $50 and recoup some of the price...).
- The supposed extent of the improvements to the camera.
-
These leakers are traditionally very on point, so I don't there's much left to see. The only surprise which could help justify the price is a commitment to something like 5 years of updates. If you charge prices identical to the iPhones, you should support the products at least as long.
-
Hopefully one of the two devices have a sub $500 pricetag.
$650 starting price for the cheapest, I'd wager. I'll still probably do it, but not thrilled.

Still rocking an N5 today, and it's still getting monthly security updates. The 5X seems like a nice sequel, but the specs didn't quite advance far enough to justify the cost, and it's a little big. So fingers crossed the smaller Pixel really pushes the envelope (and justifies its rumored price).

I suppose the thread could be renamed "Google Pixel and Pixel XL Rumors."

Edit: appears to have a huge chin for no reason, judging by the latest leak.
Nah. This is all based on educated guesses, but:

Most relevant to this site, here are the bands, including Sprint's:
Would love to see a more detailed analysis.

Higher end to start at $350? That's not too bad. Are the rumors still pointing to both being made by HTC?
Yes, the rumors say both will be made by HTC and will be nearly identical, but for their physical dimensions. But I would expect the price to be higher.

So the latest rumors on the Marlin and Sailfish...
Marlin to be all metal body and named Nexus M1, Snapdragon 821 processor
Sailfish to be plastic body and named Nexus S1, Snapdragon 820 processor
Both have 4GB of RAM
S1 to be in the $350 and up price range
The rumor regarding body materials came from a totally unproven site. No real reason to believe that given Android Police's track record and statement that "As far as we know, these phones are aluminum body, not polycarbonate." (Emphasis in original).
Also, nowhere have I read the phones will have different processors.
As for price, if the price is proportionate with the quality, I don't mind paying a little more.

It looked familiar in some way. I couldn't put my finger on it at first. Then it hit me just now. It kind of reminds me of the HTC EVO LTE.
No joke!

Wow, Android Police is on fire.
Here's a render they made. Both devices look substantially identical, but for the size, apparently.
Looks great. I'm on board.

I don't think you have to worry about it not being Sprint compatible due to Project Fi
Great point! Maybe even tuned for Sprint frequencies...?
-
Looks like specs for the larger device, Marlin, just leaked:
- Manufactured by HTC
- Quad-core Qualcomm processor
- 5.5" QHD (2560x1440) AMOLED display
- USB-C port
- 12MP rear camera, 8MP front
- Rear-mounted fingerprint scanner
- 4GB RAM
- 3450mAh battery
- Bottom-firing speakers
- 32/128GB of storage
- Bluetooth 4.2
Other interesting news:
We believe that there will only be two storage models - 32 and 128GB, with no 64GB in between them. We also believe, though are not certain, that the same will be true of Sailfish's storage configuration. We have good reason to think that Sailfish and Marlin will likely have the same cameras, RAM, and CPUs as one another. At this time, we just aren't certain what that CPU is - be it a revised Snapdragon 820, or the rumored 821 or 823. There's simply not enough for us to go on right now. This paints a rather interesting picture: two Nexuses in two sizes, with the only real difference between the two being the size and resolution of display and battery capacity. This would align more with an iPhone / iPhone Plus sort of strategy, or if you like an Android analogy, a Sony Z and Z Compact strategy. Last year, the Nexus 5X was the clear second fiddle to the more powerful 6P.
Also: "At this time, we also believe we can confidently revise our Sailfish specifications to state that it also has an AMOLED display panel (though at 1080p resolution)."
All in all, I'm thrilled with this news. Barring some major downside (please be on Sprint), I'll definitely be ordering the sailfish device once released.

Just wanted to point out Sprint solved the signal drop / hand-off issue with an update pushed 1/4. Hooray!
