  1. I've been using it on my iPad since I got my invite last week. It worked great for the first few days but since they opened it up to people without invites I've had constant problems with it needing to buffer. I have a gigabit fiber connection and everything else works fine when it starts having problems so I can only assume they're getting overloaded. Hopefully they fix it soon as I definitely like where it is going.

  2.  And I know -- because I teach symbolic logic.

Does that mean you can help me with my discrete structures homework? ;)

On a serious note, I was on an ASL when I first moved my line off my parents Nextel account and on to my own. They automatically took it off after 12 months and now everytime I visit the store in downtown Portland I get the same rep who comments that he's never seen an account that can have so many additional lines added. But they didn't charge for the "service" which is not OK as far as I'm concerned. I understand wanting to restrict how much someone owes you, much like a credit card, but I would think that would only alienate customers who perhaps aren't that loyal (overall) anyways.

Can customers get EasyPay devices on prepaid? Or with an ASL?

  3. I thought Sprint was done, per John Legere?  Surely there can't be any demand for a new phone on Sprint, is there?

And T-Mobile is still having problems, even this morning. John's been awfully quiet on Twitter today. Can talk the talk but not walk the walk.

I got my regular 6 ordered (64GB, Silver) via Sprint.com, but I was pretty upset I couldn't order it through Apple because my plan wasn't supported on the Apple online store.

  4. your pictures confirms what I was thinking. I think they just did a site by my house to, sadly I didn't have time to stop and chat / take pictures... The other issue is this site also has a concealed antenna shield of sorts that blocks me from seeing the actual antenna.. I kinda can see the cables and what appears to be 8 cables but honestly its hard to make out.. Its been upgraded for the past 3 weeks now and nothing has been turn on at this point..

Keep us posted on that tower and if you get b41 anytime soon? I don't think they have gotten to the point of turning it on yet.. This tower by me is less then a half mile away.. So I should get some dang good signals off of it, even inside my house.

I'm pretty sure they did the Clearwire site on top of the Science Building 1 at PSU (1025 SW Mill) as well, they were working on it a few weeks back and now there is two types of antennas mounted (WiMax and the new ones). As far as I can tell Clearwire appears to be the only carrier on that building. AT&T is on Blumel Hall next door. I'm going to try and get some pics to confirm.

  5. Yes, it is faster. However, you really do not speeds as fast as they are saying they can reach on a smart phone. You literally can't do anything that would be necessary to have speeds that fast. In reality 1-3 mb down with good ping is more than enough to perform normal smart phone activities (check Facebook, instagram, emails, send photos, messages, youtube etc.) Anything above what sprint LTE is guaranteeing is just, "mine is bigger than yours" talk.

    Band 26 is also 5x5.

While I don't necessarily disagree with your statement that those are normal smart phone activities I think that is fairly subjective. Furthermore, none of the carriers market LTE as only for those purposes. They encourage people to download apps and other content which arguably do require faster speeds. And I can guarantee Sprint and T-Mobile will be pushing this more than the others given their unlimited data plans.

  6. Thanks!

I originally got the T-Mo version because I was visiting home and wanted to try T-Mo's service in the area, on faux G I got about 1 mbps down.

I ended up picking up an AT&T card because the nearest Sprint store was 40 miles away. I'm going to stop at the store here in downtown Portland and see. A friend of mine that works for Apple told me the Apple store will give me one as well. Either way, it'll be nice to have all 3 carriers as an option.

  7. Hey everyone,

I just got a new iPad mini with Retina display (WiFi + Cellular variant). I went a head and got the T-Mobile version so I could get the free monthly data, plus I was enticed by international roaming being included in their packages. I know the iPad is not a locked device, and in the case of the latest iPad models (Air and Mini) there is only one model for all carriers, previously there was a different model for the CDMA carriers.

I've picked up an AT&T SIM card to use when needed, but I was curious if anyone knew where I could get a Sprint SIM? Are they carried by corporate stores? I know the activation process will be a bit different since this happens over CDMA but first things first I need a SIM.

    Thanks,

    Charlie

  8. I've been having the same problem all over Wayne, Oakland, and Genesee counties including areas where I used to have decent LTE speeds. Not sure what's been going on, but I hope it ends soon.

Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2

I was having this problem in West Michigan while they did the 3G acceptances. Once they were complete LTE went back to normal. Not sure if they are related, but I have a feeling they may be.

  9. I've traveled to Chicago IL, Ann Arbor MI, Detroit MI, Tulsa OK.  The service has ranged from almost working to unusable (Data and Voice).  I know if I hold out this will all be better in the long run.  I actually have no choice for anyone else as I refuse to be an AT&T customer ever again.

Dropped calls left and right all last week while I was in Michigan.

    Anyone else have this experience?

    /b

My service was doing the same all last week, and LTE was unusable as well. But I also noticed that all of the sites in my county and the neighboring county that didn't already have LTE service now have 3G upgrades as well, as do the LTE towers.

  10. So, delta, been a while since you posted..how is the Zing working out in your fringe LTE location?  Did you get any help

from an external antenna?  I'm getting -114 dBm fringe signal myself at the house  (won't connect) and wonder if the Zing

    would connect..

Apologies, I've been traveling trying to find a place to live in Portland. It actually works pretty good even without the external antenna, with a -110 dBm signal I'm still getting 5~6 mbps down and managed to use almost all of my 6GB last month. Definitely much much better than my Sierra Wireless Overdrive that constantly overheated, that was my biggest concern with getting the Netgear (they acquired Sierra).

  11. Here is some points today of my Denver Band 41 TD-LTE testing.

    • Another point about the hotspot, but not Band 41 (TDD-LTE) related, is that it is a RF beast.  The Netgear MiFI tends to best my Note 2 on Band 25 LTE signals by 6-10dBm.  That's a lot.  In Castle Rock, Colorado with a 10dBm difference, my Note 2 would do 11Mbps on its own, but connected to the hotspot it would do 20Mbps.  Huge difference in speed with 10dBm.  Also, my CDMA RSSI is roughly 4-8dBm better too.

    Off-topic post:

This makes me wonder if there's something wrong with mine. My indoor signal strength is about -107 and it drops LTE altogether when it hits -109. My Photon and iPhone both hold it until nearly -120.

  12. Unfortunately Sprint's LTE is on the PCS G block - unless the antennas say they specifically support the G block, they probably won't help you with LTE.

So as long as I find an antenna that supports the G block I should be good? I've found several but they all specifically list 3G/CDMA service and not LTE. But I was under the impression (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the antenna just needs to support the specific frequency not necessarily a specific technology as the radio handles that?

  13. I am into amateur radio and this setup is interesting. I wonder what sort of wideband antenna would exist to even be usable over the 800/1900/2500 bands. I would venture to say such an antenna with these wide ranges wouldn't be very effective at all and maintain SWR. I see it has two antenna ports - perhaps one is for the 800 band and the other one is for the 1900/2500 band?

I took it to my dad (he's a ham too) to see if he knew but didn't have much of an idea. Thankfully his curiosity has him going so he's looking too.

I'm not sure if what the difference between the two ports is, I just have the information from Netgear's web site. I was going to see if I could find any FCC approval docs for it to see if there was more info.

  14. Ok, I wasn't really sure where to post this since there isn't a specific forum for data-only devices.

I picked up a Netgear Zing hotspot today and am anxious to give it a try. Unfortunately LTE service in my home and out and about still isn't great (-107 or so signal) unless I go outside as the tower nearest my home hasn't been upgraded yet. But just in general I noticed there was a few external antenna ports on the device and was curious if anyone knew of a compatible antenna that I could use?

I see Netgear sells a few but they don't list LTE as supported, but do have CDMA 1900. As for an antenna I can't imagine there's much difference as long as the frequency is correct. Am I incorrect in saying this?
