  1. From http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/20/tech/mobile/wired-review-samsung-galaxy/index.html?hpt=hp_c2:

The ability to create folders on the S III is also needlessly complicated. In Google's unaltered version of Android 4, a folder is created whenever two app icons are dragged on top of one another. On the S III, you have to hold your finger on the screen, tap "Add to Home screen" from a pop-up menu, select the "Folder" option, then drag your apps in.

Samsung has also needlessly altered Google's built-in Android features. Google has developed an Android-to-Android sharing system called

    Android Beam

that allows two NFC-equipped Android phones to share files when the two devices are tapped together. The S III arrives with that feature intact, but Samsung also has added its own NFC sharing system called S Beam, which does the same thing, but only works with Galaxy S III phones.

The most I could get S Voice to do was say, "Hi, nice to meet you," when I said, "Hi, Galaxy," to either phone. If I said, "Hello, Galaxy," it would respond with, "I'm not sure what you mean by 'Hello Galaxy.'" Every other request or command I spoke to S Voice was met with, "Network error. Please try again," on both handsets, despite seeing full service bars and being connected to Wi-Fi.

    The screen uses a

    PenTile

subpixel arrangement that unfortunately results in discernible pixels and a jagged look that falls short of the screens found on the iPhone 4S and the One X.

  2. Even since I got an iPhone, I no longer anticipate every new Android device, because it "just works" and does everything I need.

    :P :P :P

Might get the GSIII anyway though

  3. Well, there is the Android bug that randomly sends text messages to random recipients. Let me repeat that. Android phones, randomly, will send some random text message you've sent in the past, to another random person in your contact list. I personally experienced this bug three times, and thousands of other people have reported the same bug on the bug tracker. So many people encountered this bug that Google had to block additional comments because of the server load!

There's the slew of phones with random reboot problems, GPS problems, and radio interface library crashes. I hear about peoples phones randomly rebooting on a 911 emergency call. (One guy had this happen to him three times.) The Galaxy S II has a DAC of such low quality, you can't listen to music through speakers from it.

As much I think Android is a terrific feat of engineering and fantastic free software, it would be disingenuous to dismiss any of these serious issues.

  4. zzz...Manufacturers continue to rush out half-baked Android phones, what else is new.

*Note, I like Android in theory. I'm the first to admit it's prettier and easier to use than iOS. But in practice it's a pile.

/edit The Nexus line is solid and the Galaxy Nexus is a teriffic phone. But even on the Nexus S it's kinda crappy. For example they didn't fix SMS messages so if you go over 160 characters, it just turns into gibberish.

  5. Very erratic signal indicator. Would cycle to zero bars for no reason and stay there for a bit.

The Nexus S does the same thing. And the E4GT had a buggy RIL (radio interface library) stack that crashed constantly, though I think it was patched eventually. And the E4GT had an absolutely horrendous DAC chip. Apparently the new SIII has a crappy Calendar app that crashes constantly. The EVO 4G LTE when recording video de-syncs the recorded sound when a notification sound occurs. I like Android the operating system but hate Android the implementation, I have to use iPhone for reasons like this. Stop cutting corners Android manufacturers. /rant
