WOot!

For marketing reasons, Sprint's gonna wait till all towers are upgraded, then throw the switch in early 2014.

They call the sam houston beltway a beltway

What would cause this higher than normal speeds?

Would clear's spectrum be helpful for those high-density events like sports, st paddys day, music festivals etc. where cell service stops working because of all the people?

From http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/20/tech/mobile/wired-review-samsung-galaxy/index.html?hpt=hp_c2:
The ability to create folders on the S III is also needlessly complicated. In Google's unaltered version of Android 4, a folder is created whenever two app icons are dragged on top of one another. On the S III, you have to hold your finger on the screen, tap "Add to Home screen" from a pop-up menu, select the "Folder" option, then drag your apps in.
Samsung has also needlessly altered Google's built-in Android features. Google has developed an Android-to-Android sharing system called
that allows two NFC-equipped Android phones to share files when the two devices are tapped together. The S III arrives with that feature intact, but Samsung also has added its own NFC sharing system called S Beam, which does the same thing, but only works with Galaxy S III phones.
The most I could get S Voice to do was say, "Hi, nice to meet you," when I said, "Hi, Galaxy," to either phone. If I said, "Hello, Galaxy," it would respond with, "I'm not sure what you mean by 'Hello Galaxy.'" Every other request or command I spoke to S Voice was met with, "Network error. Please try again," on both handsets, despite seeing full service bars and being connected to Wi-Fi.
The screen uses a
subpixel arrangement that unfortunately results in discernible pixels and a jagged look that falls short of the screens found on the iPhone 4S and the One X.

Even since I got an iPhone, I no longer anticipate every new Android device, because it "just works" and does everything I need.
:P
Might get the GSIII anyway though

Well, there is the Android bug that randomly sends text messages to random recipients. Let me repeat that. Android phones, randomly, will send some random text message you've sent in the past, to another random person in your contact list. I personally experienced this bug three times, and thousands of other people have reported the same bug on the bug tracker. So many people encountered this bug that Google had to block additional comments because of the server load!
http://code.google.c.../detail?id=9392
There's the slew of phones with random reboot problems, GPS problems, and radio interface library crashes. I hear about peoples phones randomly rebooting on a 911 emergency call. (One guy had this happen to him three times.) The Galaxy S II has a DAC of such low quality, you can't listen to music through speakers from it.
As much I think Android is a terrific feat of engineering and fantastic free software, it would be disingenuous to dismiss any of these serious issues.

zzz...Manufacturers continue to rush out half-baked Android phones, what else is new.
*Note, I like Android in theory. I'm the first to admit it's prettier and easier to use than iOS. But in practice it's a pile.
/edit The Nexus line is solid and the Galaxy Nexus is a teriffic phone. But even on the Nexus S it's kinda crappy. For example they didn't fix SMS messages so if you go over 160 characters, it just turns into gibberish.

um.........what is a text message gonna tell you that this site already hasn't?!!!?/1

I just had an epiphany--maybe Sprint did ATL first so you guys have something to play with while you're sitting in traffic all day!

I got a text today! From my mom!

No roaming though = not useful for anyone that travels. Good deal for people otherwise and good for Sprint to sell more inventory.

you can poop in 1 hand, and hope for LTE in the other.....
Rofl. Can't argue with that !!! Lol

The money play is to buy an iPhone with the subsidy as its the highest subsidy, then you can resell the iPhone and purchase whatever device you prefer.

LOL, you're they guy that forced Sprint to turn off LTE on all the towers in my area with all your speedtests...nice and thnx for the welcome
He's a 4G legend!!

I would imagine a lot of Chicago land customers are dropping their service?

It hasn't been announced yet

Very erratic signal indicator. Would cycle to zero bars for no reason and stay there for a bit.
The Nexus S does the same thing. And the E4GT had a buggy RIL (radio interface library) stack that crashed constantly, though I think it was patched eventually. And the E4GT had an absolutely horrendous DAC chip. Apparently the new SIII has a crappy Calendar app that crashes constantly. The EVO 4G LTE when recording video de-syncs the recorded sound when a notification sound occurs. I like Android the operating system but hate Android the implementation, I have to use iPhone for reasons like this. Stop cutting corners Android manufacturers. /rant

On 3g a lot of times in crowded areas like festivals, calls and texts don't go through or take a long time to go through. Can we expect 4G to work better in crowded places?

Montana is out west, maybe 800 mHz penetrates mountains?

700 Mhz LTE on Verizon
in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
Posted
I picked up a Galaxy S III on Verizon since it'll be awhile before LTE comes to Minnesota. Verizon doesn't work in tin-can buildings either -- the same places where Sprint doesn't work. I guess the lesson learned is don't expect "magic" from the 700 Mhz / 800 Mhz band!
