  1. So, according to this link— androidauthority.com/android-silver-retiring-nexus-374512/ —and many others, Google plans to kick the Nexus line to the curb and start up "Android Silver" —which is basically Google Play Edition with more +'s. According gto Android Authority, there will be minimal bloatware, and all bloated apps must be easily uninstalled without rooting the device. Also, Google will tell the manufacturers the specs that the device must have. There's more to read on their site, but what I wanted to ask is this: Do you think Google is ready to abandon the Nexus line and start Android Silver? Why or why not? As for myself, I have no idea. It doesn't seem likely but anything can happen in the phone world.

  2. That was exactly why I stopped using Samsung devices after I had a GS1, GS2, and GS3. I got tired of all the weird issues that always seemed to stem from Samsung's f&%king around with Android so much.

While LG does some modifications as well, they are much less intrusive than Samsung's and seem to be much more stable in my experience so far with my G2.

Agreed. I had glitches galore on my GS3 and now even more with my Mega. I'm going with a red Nexus 5. I see my parents with their N5's and they have no issues. I have been so jealous for so long.

Well, I keep my Mega in a folio and keep it in my pocket and I do not have a overheat heat issue. The only time I do notice it getting a tiny bit hotter than usual is when I am streaming to my Chromecast for long periods of time. But it is still not hot to the point that it shuts down.

I Chromecast with my Nexus 7 95% of the time, and it never overheats. But yeah, the fact that yours doesn't have the same problems as mine further enforces my belief that my phone is to blame. The screen gets warm, and sometimes the back door is hot. Pretty sure that is unintended...  B)

  3. Yeah I don't really want to reset it, I had to do that on my GS3 and just wanted a new phone. I Have decided to sell the darned monstrosity for something nicer. Now I am debating: Nexus 5 or Nokia Lumia 1020. I had problem after problem with my GS3 and now it is the same with my Galaxy Mega. Time I stopped my Samsung loyalty and moved on to better brands. Thanks guys, I really appreciate the suggestions. I will keep this post bookmarked for future reference as this will almost definitely happen to me again.

  4. Virus in system apps? What is your CPU load? Cpu-z can show an overal cpu load but you might need something that shows what each program is using. I noticed that some Roms cause heat issues. Did you load a new ROM or kernel lately?

It could be a virus in the system apps, but I hope it isn't. I will look into CPU-Z and other apps, thanks for the suggestions! And no, it is completely unrooted with no real modifications. Any apps that messed with the system (alternate status bars, battery savers, TimePin, etc.) were removed when I saw issues. :(

  5. Okay, so my Samsung Galaxy Mega i9200 has been acting up lately and is getting to the point where it is unusable. The problem? It is so big that it overheats. A lot.I have tried putting it into Safe Mode and it still shuts off, so I am positive it is not an app or something stupid like that. About 3 out of every 4 times I put it in my pocket, when I take it out it has shut off and the screen is fairly hot. Obviously this doesn't make me happy because it takes about a full minute to turn back on.  :wall:  I have found that putting it in my pocket with the screen facing outwards keeps it from shutting down, but I hate doing that because it is (A) uncomfortable and ( B) not safe for my device. I do not really want to buy a new phone right now because the other 6"+ phones are fairly expensive. I have just bought a new case and am hoping that will fix my problem. Anyone have any suggestions if it doesn't?

PS: Note owners, I realize your phone is better but I do not care.

PPS: I know this is AT&T but Sprint doesn't have service in our area so blame them. There is a Sprint version of my phone, so let us pretend we are talking about that.

  6. So my little sister received an Asus Nexus 7 1st Generation for her birthday a couple months ago, but a few weeks ago she dropped it (only a foot from the ground AND it was in a case) and the screen shattered. The lower part of the digitizer is nonfunctional (so no home, back, or recent apps buttons). For Christmas I would like to get it fixed for her, does anyone know of a good N7 repair place? Preferably one that I can mail her tablet to? Thanks.

  7. Got my hands on a galaxy mega for whole night. Not good first impressions. Battery life is great. Thats the only pro that i see. Camera is garbage compared to my G2, the screen pixels are very very visible making hd movie look not so hd. Phone was laggy just setting up thr basic playstore apps like gmail, youtube etc. I was comparing a picture and it did a reboot on me. Front camera is good though and 3g and lte signals are strong. But as a whole package this phone doesnt seem future proof and already feels dated. Screen is too big too at least for me I think the note 2 is better than this phone

    Note owners. -_-

  8. So when my Nexus 7 2013 notified me that it was ready to update to 4.4 Kit Kat, I was ecstatic. My parents were actually a little worried because I was talking to my tablet like it could hear me. Anyways, I got the update and I was watching the red, yellow, blue, and green dots combine to make a white circle (I love that) and slowly getting ready to jump for joy when I noticed that the Kit Kat on my N7 looked a lot like 4.3-actually in every way. Furious, I Googled my problem and found that the Google Experience Launcher (what makes the Nexus 5 look so perfect) is a Nexus 5 exclusive-or so people thought. As some of you may remember, a couple weeks ago I posted the APK file for the launcher, and I tried downloading this for my tablet. As you can see in the attached photo of my tablet, it worked. It looks just like the Nexus 5's Google launcher, and runs flawlessly. For those of you who are about to or already have received the 4.4 update on your non-Nexus 5 device, this is a great way to get the N5's beautiful interface-complete with the transparent status bar and navkey background. Hope I helped!  :lock:

Here is the link to my post with the APK files:

  9. Where is the kiss on the cheek and reminder not to miss family fun night?

I don't get kissies on the cheek anymore, FYI.

And I'm not a baby! Why, just yesterday I drank my entire bottle of milk without spilling any on my "Momma's Little Man" bib. So there.

Now, if you'll excuse me, it is way past my 7:00 bed time.

PS: Family Fun Night is on Tuesdays, not Saturday.

  10. Okay, so in a sad attempt to keep me somewhat anonymous (how many people own a Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and wear a Disciples shirt?), I have covered part of my face in this photo just to give poeple an idea of the size of this phone. The phone feels just right to me though. Yeah. It's big, I get it. But it's awesome. Always annoying when someone asks me if it's an S4. Yeah, it's an S4...on steroids!

  11. You got my Galaxy Mega a couple of days ago.

I have some concerns while playing with it hopefully S4GRU has some insight on the matter.  Keep in mind I live in Orange County, Southern California.

    1) I've noticed everytime the 4GLTE signal lights up, my phone signal bar drops to 1 bar.  While when the 3G signal lights up, the bar goes to a normal phone signal range.

    2) Lately people are unable to make direct calls to me.  I usually receive a voice mail inidicating the missed call.

I was hoping someone inside S4GRU can share some thoughts.  I haven't spoken to a Sprint representative as of yet as I entrust that S4GRU usually provides a direct answer.

Read the most recent article on the Wall. You've got a Tri-Band phone, so until Sprint upgrades the 3G in your area, you'll have problems. It's unfortunate, I know.
