I get the fake 4g all the time when I'm downtown.

I usually end up turning off lte

Great signal, 4g logo and zero data.

    Drives me nuts.

    Where downtown?

My commute to work I come from 70/south saunders and every time when I hit downtown I lose my 4g and flip to 3g the rest of the way on south Saunders to wade avenue, then I'm on gleenwood ave and go up up till just before Crabtree.... From time I lose it. It never comes back even tried cycle airplane to check...

  2. at this rate, it seems like the raleigh market will be launched very soon... im getting LTE almost everywhere in town I go now. i am very impressed with the rate they are moving here.

Yet to pick it up in downtown here... Still drops as soon as I hit the edge of downtown... And from southern tip of downtown to Crabtree seems to be non existent... Sprint has some spotty coverage on gleenwood ave going from 5 points to 440 crossing... Esp 5 points and the country club area...

  3. Saw an ERICSSON tech working on a sprint tower today in Wake Forest... could be that I'm wrong, but I am really sure it's a sprint only tower.

Interesting in an ALU market in deployment.... Maybe tower isn't set for NV for awhile and something serious happened that caused the need for an ERIC worker to go out for maintenance?

  4. Haha that's funny there.... They protest at a tmobile store....errrr right that'll help...

Funny they set goal of 1k signatures and only have 400 thus far since last august.... One would think if this was a big deal, since it effects 10 schools they would of been able to muster up more than 40 signatures per school....

That tells me that as usual there are a small niche of ppl blowing this out of proportion...

Many of the towers in Vegas so far are getting 6 RRU's, and yes, AlcaLu is doing Vegas. And these are 3 Sector sites. Not sure if AlcaLu RRU's can do CDMA1900 and LTE1900 at the same time.

I just answered my question. Digging thru the FCC Docs, I found that AlcaLu RRU's can do CDMA/LTE at the same time.

Weird.... Pretty sure every tower I've seen here in Raleigh has 3 RRUs per sector panel.... Thought that was the norm I guess is all...

  6. I need some help. benifactor posted this in the Vegas permit thread, and the site is supposed to have 6 RRU's, and I know the 3 are definitely on the top, but what about the other 3 boxes. Are they RRU's too?

    http://imgur.com/a/vwTYl

Why would a site only have 6RRUs?... Only 2 sectors on it for whatever reason?... Because there would be 3 RRUs per sector/antenna.

Is ALU doing Vegas or is Samsung? The antenna looks like the curved alu ones kinda FWIW... Kinda interested in the pink logo on the old antennas myself...

  7. I picked up LTE at crossroads today. It was a weak signal, - 115 db, but I still got 4.5mb down. This was in the dicks parking lot specifically. I occasionally work right off Cary parkway and kildaire, and my phone likes to switch between 3g and 4g all day. I don't think the new back haul is hooked up but it's still a lot faster than 3g. But it's constantly switching, every 5 minutes or so. I've yet to pick it up off Jones franklin and 440 but I haven't been by there in a few days so I'll check next time.

That speed is bout right for that signal...

Most speedway's are equipped with temporary towers on the back of tractor trailer rigs during race weekend's. It's any bodies guess if they have upgraded this equipment yet.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

Those rigs do not stay permanently at the tracks though. Those rigs you speak of are COWs(Cell on Wheels). They move them into events when capacity will be high and need more to handle it... The race this weekend is at Daytona so I wouldn't expect any trucks sitting and turned on at AMS unless there is another event going on there.....which I highly doubt there is one that would call for a COW...

Also of note I haven't seen Sprint use any COWs that are equipped with LTE at NASCAR tracks yet... Both races in Charlotte in May, and October last year had the giant 18wheeler COW as usual in the infield but neither time was said COW equipped with LTE... There may be some that are but last year for major nascar track events they did not use any... Ill know in May if that same truck has been upgraded yet as I spoke to the driver last year and chatted about his loooooong journey driving track to track...

  9. That's a T-Mobile's top rack, using NSN equipment, that box between the middle Antenna and a guy on the left is NSN Flexi Base Stations. That's a Release 10 capable array.

Yeah if you look at the bottom of the panels you see 2 actuators I believe but there is only 1 cable feeding the panel which signifies alone its not sprint... Can see how one could get confused as it looks like they have 2 small RUUs hanging below the panel...

  10.

Difficult to say, but this is not exactly a new development. For about the past six months, most/all new AT&T handsets have included those four LTE bands.

    AJ

Which begs the question as to why sprints version is missing the 800/2.5 bands... They have included bands/features that wouldn't be available for 2yr before, like the 800mhz in the 3d... So wondering what the reason is for this development of missing bands... Especially knowing Clearwire is supposed to hand a couple thousand lte sites up by mid yr and testing lte 800 will be later this yr...

I used to expect to see 800 lte included before the 2.5 as I would assume sprint doesn't plan on the network needing offloading to 2.5 for at least a little bit and before the acquisition of clearwire it would be paying for something they didn't necc need at the time... But still lost on the lack of no 800.... Less they have some big kinks they need to work out and are unsure how to handle them right now. .

  11. Heard rumor there was a live LTE tower at Six Forks near 540.

Driving up six forks, before Sawmill I got the first little glimpse of 4G then it went out. Closer to 540 it popped back up again. I snapped a few pics of what I (think) is the tower providing signal.

I've seen people post screenshots of 30+mbps down 10+mbps up on sprint towers. Was this while they were doing testing and before limiting the speed?

It was during rush hour so it may have been network congestion, but every test was basically right at 10mbps so I guess throttling (this may not be the proper terminology is more likely.

I didn't have Sensorly running unfortunately but I'll be back in the area and will drive around a little and do some logs.

    Here's some screenshots and pics:

Change your server to Richmond and see what happens on the test.... Personally even though I'm closer to Wilson like you I typically always get a better result through Richmond.... Remember an old link that showed sprints main network running and having many connecting there and Atlanta were the closest places to NC...

  12.

Well seeing as how they don't expect thus out till 2nd half makes sense why there isn't one supporting all bands quite yet.... Least without adding a ton of extra hardware to support the bands.

  13. Which is why they have emergency controls on the ground unit just for something like that.

Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2

If the emergency controls on the ground worked then the brother wouldn't of climbed the tower to give them gear to repel down...he would of controlled the lift to lower them down...

Lifts like that are quirky things and when their sensors start to go bad they are not fun to be on at all.

  14. I will leave it at this...

As much as I despise what Apple has done to this industry, if the post iPhone world is the reality, then we need a fairly predictable standard: regular Android handsets in the spring or early summer and "phablets" in the fall.

Anything else could tear Android apart.

    AJ

    I can agree to that...

Also Tbh the way Google is going and android is progressing .. Google can very take a large chunk out of Samsung and other OEMs if they get their game together with the nexus line here which the new one is supposed to shock us all... Its going to be harder to differentiate b/w others going forward...

HTCs death will be marketing as most all have mentioned at some point... Tough to compete with sammy there.

  15.

If you firmly believe that, then HTC better release the "large member" handset first. But that is not what the HTC One details indicate.

Do you see what I mean?

    AJ

Yeah I see what you mean... they should be announced together to be right...

But you have to agree, there is zero chance that HTC sits back with this device all year with the S800 SoC supposed to be out in customers hands by mid yr...

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

  16.

You grossly overestimate the percentage. If Apple were to shift to a small/large refresh model, a huge percentage of customers would feel betrayed. Now, that could still happen. If so, it needs to happen this year. Samsung has become the trendsetter, has set the standard. And Apple could withstand the resentment. I am not convinced that a wounded HTC could do likewise.

    AJ

If Samsung is trendsetter then HTC would follow the flagship and phablet release each year at least... That's 2 devices there... Not counting the other ones sammy released last yr...

HTC could easily do the regular and phablet device approach and not hurt themselves... Not everyone wants a 5-5.5in device also...

  17.

I feel the same way. The htc one looks like a pretty good phone but only having 1900 mhz LTE support is an instant deal breaker for me. Why on earth would sprint dare to put out LTE devices in 2013 with only single band support. Sprint can easily add 800 and 2500 mhz LTE support without needing to have an existing network out there. Even the att version has support for 4 LTE bands even though they havent deployed LTE in the 850/1700/1900 mhz bands. Does sprint seriously think they have enough capacity on the 'G' block to support future LTE growth. I just hope the article is plain wrong and i really hope the SGS4 does not repeat the same mistake.

Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2

Anything quoting band support I'd take with a giant grain of salt....unless its from FCC or sprint themselves...

  18.

So, if I am a potential customer, why buy now? I should wait on the prospect of newer, larger handset coming out just a few months later.

Unless that message is telegraphed in advance, that is a bad business model. In this market, surely you can see why...

    AJ

99.999% customers do not think like that. They think about here and now only... If the device is different enough it can work fine though. If the 800 was ready now it wouldn't be an issue, but there is zero chance they hold out for a year and skip out on an S800 device this year....

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

  19. Now that is an interesting idea. Refreshing the current EVO.

Yeah just the fact that the S800 will be in device by mid year is enough to know HTC is not done... No way they sit back all year and not use that SoC while others do...doing that and not including it would be suicide...

Bet is on a 5in EVO possibly...

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

  20.

That would be a disaster. As if both HTC and Sprint have not yet read the writing on the wall, a one year refresh period has become the standard. Like it or not, Apple has dictated that cycle, and Samsung has capitulated. That is just the way it is. If HTC and/or Sprint dare to expedite the process, watch out for the death of HTC and/or Sprint.

    AJ

Not entirely.... Sammy has the Note as well so I'm thinking HTC will at least have the S800 in device this year, given Qualcomms Raj comments of it being in consumer devices by mid year... Can't expect HTC to sit that puppy out.....

At very least they either have a refresh/EVO/ or phablet device out then with that puppy in it...

Only apple sticks to 1 device. Sammy still releases a handful per year, mini, note, sgs, ...
