  1. Sprint treats Clearwire WiMax data as completely native with the customer (even Protection Sites) and it counts against your data totals. You will see it appear on your bill as Sprint 4G data usage.

So when Sprint figures your data usage roaming, it will put it as a ratio against your native including WiMax data. However, voice usage will be your problem. Sprint will also ratio your voice usage to roaming usage.

I think you'll get a letter in 60 days unless you stop using roaming voice. And even if you stop using roaming voice, there is still a good chance they'll send you a letter anyway, as they may see you are never connecting to a native 1x signal.

It will be interesting if you're able to fly under the radar. Please keep us posted. This will be useful information no matter how it shakes out.

Robert, do you think Sprint would issue him an Airave to get some native voice/3g coverage?

  2. Has anyone been having worse than usual service in west Omaha area?  Seems like every time I go into a building, I lose service.

I was at 134th & Fort around 5 pm today.  Indoors I only had one bar of service, not enough signal for SpeedTest to work.  After forcing my phone to 1x web pages would load.  It's probably not related, but my buddy who has Verizon had poor outdoor service there.

  3. If you're going either way on 35 out of Des Moines, and plan on using any data whatsoever, in my experience a Verizon PRL is a must (1x only anyone?). Even holding a call in some place north of Ames and south of Albert Lea (where there is mostly NOTHING but the highway) can be very difficult. Amazing how long that corridor has been neglected. Funny (yet not funny) that once you cross into MN/MO you're right back on 3G again. Shows what importance Iowa really is to Sprint as a whole (Ha!). Sprint really does need to get on the ball though, I can only really count on 3G in Des Moines and anywhere connected by 80 (Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, Waterloo, Council Bluffs etc). And that doesn't necessarily mean reliable 3G either. Marshalltown, Carroll, Mason City, Fort Dodge, Ottumwa, are just a few places I have been that have been (still are?) 1x only. The only reason I say that they may not be is that the last time I was in Marshalltown (in March) I saw eHRPD (testing maybe?). At this point, if Sprint brings some solid speeds and consistency back (especially in DSM), great, but the first carrier to approach their value (price and coverage wise) with an iPhone and an unlimited plan (yes I know, a lot to ask) is getting my business. This is 2013 not 2002, seeing 100-300kbps down on a frequent basis in a metro of 500,000 and leaving a major cross country Interstate highway perpetually stuck at 2G until who knows when is absolutely pathetic.

I'm excited for some of the 1xrtt towers in Iowa to finally see some upgrades. Those seem to be mixed among the central and eastern market. I was one some of those towers in the eastern market and had trouble just getting voice calls to go through. Things along the 35 corridor were okay until I started getting close to the MN border then things went downhill fast. The network is having issues with both data and voice.

No doubt that the further north of Ames you get on I-35 the worse service gets. North of US Hwy 20 data gets sketchy, last summer I repeatedly had to power cycle my phone regain a data connection.  Between US Hwy 18 and the MN border data was unusable.  So much for internet radio...

Also found that near the Nevada city hall my phone would roam even though the Sprint coverage map shows 1x Sprint coverage throughout the town.

  4. When I received this month's Sprint bill there was a note on page 2 that the Terms & Conditions would be changing.  Following the link www.sprint.com/termsandconditions I found this:

New Agreements on the Sprint 4G (WiMAX) Network: Your Service on a device activated on the Sprint 4G (WiMAX) Network may require a new one or two-year Agreement per line. Sprint expressly reserves the right to migrate your Service during this Agreement term from the Sprint 4G (WiMAX) Network to the Sprint 4G LTE network to complete your Agreement term. Reasonable advance notice of the Service change will be provided to impacted customers, who can then select one of the following options: (a) Choose to complete the Agreement term using your existing device without 4G (WiMAX) capability ( B) Elect to complete the Agreement term by contacting us after receiving notice from Sprint to transition to the Sprint 4G LTE network with no additional term commitment required (Transition Option)© Deactivate service. Deactivations because of this Service change will not result in an Early Termination Fee (ETF). Transition Option: If you select the Transition Option, you will receive a free standard Sprint LTE capable device and can maintain your existing Service plan, if available. During the Agreement term, Sprint may provide other offers that are separate from the Transition Option, and these offers will be subject to a new two-year Agreement per line.

Has anyone else received the same T&C notice in their latest Sprint bill or know the details of these WiMax agreements?
