  1. I think that's exactly right - this is too good a deal for the long term to pass up. Sprint is undervalued and the the opportunity to get in on the US market doesn't happen every day. I think they recognize, once again, that in the mid to long term Sprint is an excellent investment and that they can really shake things up.

  2. Pronunciation is only subjective in the respect that it's based on what people agree. Say it wrong, and you're either wrong... Or have an American accent :P

Remember that pronunciation in Japanese varies, among other things, on gender... a woman might say "Sofutobanku" pronouncing everything, but chances are a guy is going to elide those "u"s - the short "o" sounding like uh in English phonetics.

  3. I think you'll see a lot more people becoming more skeptical as they learn more about LTE. From what I see of the technical specifications of LTE, it looks like it was designed to avoid issues that are common in dense urban areas (issues like multipath), e.g. Europe and Asian large metros, not for wide coverage which is much more of a concern in the US. CDMA has been and continues to be a pretty exemplary voice technology, and it's going to be tough to replace it with LTE and maintain the same coverage... If VoLTE really does end up being the replacement for CDMA voice, the only solution I can see is increasing tower density or just accepting diminished rural coverage.

Was there any technology based on CDMA that was competing with LTE at any point that would have given superior,CDMA like coverage along with similar data speeds as LTE?

  4. No surprise to me. Sprint internally has been saying Q2-2013 for LTE 800 and LTE 2600 capable devices.

In the LTE 800 development roadmap, it said Sprint wants to get the LTE 800 FIT up before giving final OEM programming for device production. That will not happen until late Q4-2012.

Do you have any idea what the LTE 800 FIT is going to be? Is it Waco again?

  5. And to think I was tossing and turning over whether to get to the Evo LTE or the S3... The original Evo was so good that I thought the LTE version would be awesome, but I went with the S3 for the doubled RAM and developer support since so many people have it. I'm really glad I did seeing as the Evo LTE seems to be really badly affected by radio problems.

  6. They claim it's because their dynamic antennas are configured to boost signal as opposed to simultaneously send/receive different data and voice? I don't totally get that but that's what they say.

The Photon is their first LTE phone. Sounds like the GSIII will be their second.

They will be able to roam on Sprint LTE.

I wonder whether Sprint phones will be able to roam on the parts of C-Spire's network that have LTE in PCS. Could be a nice perk for Sprint customers, since C-Spire will get to rural MS markets before Sprint will.

Very cool, thank you for that information. I wonder am wondering if the LTE roaming deal is going to be a nationwide thing...

Also, as far as I know, this is the first LTE roaming deal made in the US, right? I am curious as to whether or not MetroPCS is going to be next to sign a roaming deal of some sort - I believe MetroPCS has LTE on the PCS band along with AWS.

  8. I'm seriously considering switching for this. They have HSPA+42 in my area which to me is as good as LTE and I'm off contract in December. I have a feeling their EDGE areas are as good as Sprint 3G (in oklahoma) too. I can stay with them for 2 years then if Sprint brings 800 LTE to my area I'll switch back.

I have access to a T-Mobile HSPA phone I carry around just for fun, and I highly recommend you buy a cheap T-Mobile SIM card and activate it on one of their contract free Monthly4G plans, just to try out their coverage. Sure, if you have solid HSPA+ coverage wherever you are, it's okay, but even in major metros, at least in California, I drop back to EDGE all the time, and EDGE is essentially 2G, equivalent to 1X on Sprint I believe, and it's useless, it is terribly frustrating. In building coverage also seems really really touchy. Definitely try before you buy.

  9.

Everyone I know complains about spotty Tmo coverage, reduced voice quality, etc. Also, they have less roaming coverage. Also, EDGE areas will stay EDGE, but Sprint is upgrading it's entire network. Unless you live inside a major metro area and stay there, Tmo is not a good solution for most of us.

I live in the Bay Area and their HSPA+ coverage seems only slightly better than Sprint's Wimax, and ditto for building penetration. Is that thanks to the 2100mhz part of AWS, or just bad network management?

Could have fooled me when I was tearing my hair out with stupid itunes a few month ago for my kids ipod.. I kept saying I would have been done in 2 seconds with Android.

So maybe it works but that's because it is very limited in what you can do with it. Like my neighbor always says, iphones are smart phones for dumb people like me. Mind you he still asks me how to do stuff.

We each have our love of a phone or operating system and of course our choice is the best one because we made it. So with that said..... Android sucks. IOS sucks. Android is awesome. And IOS is awesome. Done.

That is exactly what I mean about the iPhone - there is one iPhone and one (essentially) iOS and these are the things you can do with it, etc. I really dislike it for that reason, I don't like the one size fits all design strategy of the whole thing, and it's why I really like Android, I'm a tinkerer, it's just, for a long time for people like my Mom there was no hope with her and Android, for example. It's much better now though.

When people use phrases like "It's just that simple." and "it just works" I feel like I'm being talked down to by someone who thinks they're superior to me in some way. I get that feeling in apple stores and when they talk down to you like that as they decide to refuse honoring the warranty on a product you paid a special premium for (happened three separate times), it leaves a permanent bad taste in your mouth about anyone else who acts smug.

I look at Apple's marketing, I looked at some of the crap judge koh bought into. It disgusts me.

I can understand that the iPhone works for you but saying "it just works", implies to me that anything else "just doesn't" which is a complete falsehood. Its like people I know who own high end BMWs and Mercedes cars that tell me my car is bland, uninspired and slow (a Toyota Camry). I bought my car for gas milage and reliability but because it isn't German engineered and lacks any racing history they act like I would be better off walking.

But for a long time with almost every other product it wasn't true that it just worked. There's one iPhone and there's iOS and it just kind of 'IS.'

  12. Out of curiosity, what does the backhaul situation look like in the SF Bay Area/South Bay. Is there any significance to eHRPD popping up almost ubiquitously after those sites on Apple's campus came online, and are those likely not indicative of any kind of market progress?
