Weather is nice out.
checked up on Grandview HS today. No work. I was there last week when a contractor was there, looked more lost than anything.

Picking up LTE in front of my apartment in Grandview. I know its not the towers at the football field because i have not seen any construction on them in the past year and if it was the signal would be the strongest you can get since the football field is right in front of my apartment. I'm guessing maybe they turned on a tower close by?
I was picking it up at Qdoba Friday night too. I think they boosted the power some. I can sometimes get it on Goodale when at work.

Is anyone able to pull PRLs from your phones? QPST service programming doesn't work with my phone anymore, for some time. I imagine there's a newer QPST out there that will but hasn't made it's way into the wild.
Looking to get my hands on 51100 to do some mods.

The Sprint upgrade map a few months ago told a different story. I zoomed in and it had the tower on the north west side of the football field on the pole with the spotlights getting an upgrade. This tower has two sets of antennas and it has American Tower corp's sign on it. The upgrade is not there anymore though i just checked.
That's a Revol site and I think it was also a Nextel site. We are 100% certain they are on the light pole northeast corner of the football field. Cabinets are in the small fenced area slightly north.
-
Which part of the tower is sprint's? there is a lower part with small antennas and then on the very top the antennas are a lot wider.
Its the one on the northeast section of the field. On the light pole.

So once the non-upgraded towers are upgraded then the antennas will then be adjusted which would fix the gaps within the market?
While everything that dkyeager spoke of is true, it will only be true where signal makes it presence. The NV1.0 deployment was to upgrade the system, increase capacity and boost range of sites. There are several other phases in the workings to provide faster data and more data capacity gearing up towards Voice Over LTE where they will not need voice service only data in the handsets. So on the gaps, there are still gaps. The gaps are fewer because of more power coming out of the towers. There are problem areas that will just require more towers. Will Sprint ever add more towers? We hope so.
Drive through the areas outside of 270: Powell through to Westerville on Polaris Pkwy, that would be a good test for what to expect in an upgraded area. That is if you're not in an upgraded area.

I'm in the campus area and I've been having issues with not receiving texts until hours later, sometimes even the next day.
This happens when you are in a border area between upgraded sites and non-upgraded sites. It's a border that goes several miles. I can tell you that Sprint has aimed the antennas on the upgraded border sites inward towards the non-upgraded sites. They've done what they can to try and eliminate these problems, it's a compatiblity problem between tower hardware. Hopefully they get some additional sites converted and keep moving.

Take for instance Mahdi and all of the Cloudy ROMs. They were built around the Verizon version G2, the VS980. They've been ported to LS980 but when you flash them, there are operational problems the biggest being no cellular data. When you go into the settings menu, the network options are grayed out and if you were to go down to about phone and status you get a FC. There are patches and fixes suggested but they don't work. If you can live off WiFi then those ROMs are great.
Like I said, the only custom kk ROM that has worked for me at all was Liquid. The only problem with that ROM was having a stable kk kernel. That has been the one ROM I've considered a benchmark for kk.
Liquid was released as beta many weeks before ZVC was released. I had an expectation that ZVC would function somewhere between the Liquid kk beta and ZVA. I've read of problems for some, more battery drain, battery performance only better, the loss of IOT and my impression was ZVC was only slightly better than ZVA. I swore against taking the flash until I needed to be at stock kk to flash Cloudy so I took the plunge. My suspicions were right, only slightly better performance and slightly better battery life.
After having the taste of what Liquid did for kk, knowing kk's potential I'm left to say Sprint did the community a huge disservice with ZVC. Granted ZVC fixed some bugs definitely with Bluetooth A2DP function, it worked better in my car too. It still wasn't perfect. Audio playback was still accelerated enough that the upper frequencies in music sounded distorted like a blown speaker.
I'm the only person to experience this?

Thanks for your input. I think I'll heed your warning, and not flash a stock rom. I'll just use my n5 if I'm in a mood for stock. I basically wanted my g2 to be a n5 on steroids; better battery and camera.

The stock Rom is great already. The modded kk roms all show to be even more great, super speedy, more responsive and dramatic increase on battery life. I was getting more than 30 hours per charge. Once they get the kernel bugs worked out, things will get awesome. Never thought that such a great phone could be improved upon.
What Sprint has done with ZVC Though is ruined it. Maybe it was on purpose to drive sales of newer handsets. Maybe it was a byproduct of their engineering. Either way it was a disappointing move after seeing what the developers have done.

I long pressed the update and clicked "app info". It is now being pushed through Google Play Services. I just disabled notifications for that. Gone.

Took my lunch break sitting next to the Revol site at Grandview HS. The Sprint gear is still all legacy but I witnessed a contractor doing a site visit, identifying which antenna was Sprint's and wandering around trying to locate the cabinets. Great news!

Interesting you ask this.... I'm on a ZVC build and got the update 2 nights ago, it was weird! I have actually never seen anything like it though. It did some update, then a PRL update and then it was done. I have no clue what was updated though, I am still on PRL 51100 and no other visible updates.
What are you Band Preferences now? I'll look at mine and confirm. I stopped changing them since I had to tot so many times getting the ZVC stuff figured out so I know mine are the way Sprint/LG wants them to be so curious as to what yours are "now" and what you had them at "before".
I had them set at B25=0 & B26, B41=1 and then data centric. After Dave posted in chat about a PRL update overnight but the PRL not changing, then also band priorities being changed, I checked mine and found it that all band priorities were set to 1, my PRL was 51100 but still in data centric mode. I've since changed them back to B25=0 and flashed my 800 priority PRL. Then this afternoon I got this notification:
I checked my Google Services Framework and the notification was already turned off:
I remember the hack on the S3 last year and eventually the notification popped back up and then after a few days the phone forced the update.
I wish Sprint would just leave crap alone. I'm in a Motorola/Samsung market, work in a legacy area bordered by NV where I have to have 800 service in order to make/receive phone calls and when I'm mobile I get any LTE that's out there. It works for me since I'm stuck in a contract "for the handset not the service".

For the peeps that have not taken the ZVC update and disabled the notification from GoogleServiceFramework, have you gotten another update notification that won't clear? Like recently?
Additionally, anyone using a custom PRL, have you noticed that you got a profile refresh over the past 24 hours and now running stock PRL such as 51100? Also with the refresh have you noticed that your LTE band preferences have changed back to default?

Good luck with
Anyone have a suggestion for a rom? I'm feeling adventurous. Do any roms offer spark compatibility? I'd like a stock kitkat rom if possible, and have been looking at "Mahdi." Thanks.
Sent from my LG-LS980Good luck with KK ROMs. There's nothing 100% yet. I tried Mahdi, Cloudy* and one other one that I can't remember the name for and in those cases had no data connectivity. Those are ports from other LG G2 phones, the VS series. It supposedly has something to do with the APN lists but I've copied the APN list from stock Sprint KK and replaced the XML file and still did not have working data.
The only KK ROM I had working data on was Liquid Smooth beta. Everything worked except had a random reboot thing going on that was kernel related. It started with a reboot 1-2 days after flashing, then more frequently after that. After about a week it would happen during calls so I went back to stock JB.
Just my thoughts.

I think maintenance, I mean they aren't going to upgrade the stuff again...

Yeah that would be crazy right? Upgrade the upgrade. Who would do such a thing? I would be pissed though if it took a truck, trailer and 4 guys to do maintenance on a new system. Maybe they forgot their screwdriver?

I've noticed recently that there have been tower crews on Sprint towers lately. Sites that have been already converted to NV. I wonder what they're up to? The one by Kingy's pizza has been done for around 10 months. Nothing left to tune. Hmmm.

So I took my phone off the charger this morning about 3 something. I checked my battery at about 5:45am and my phone had already lost 12% with no streaming or screen usage in that time (I was sleep). Google Services was at 66% usage on my battery. Anybody else had any issues lately with Google Services?
I've read some phones will have this. It's a google thing. Just restart the phone. That's what I've read.

I've seen several covert pole sites around town. I've never seen one disassembled and have always been curious. I took some pics while at lunch. They're not the greatest pics because I just don't drive around sporting my nice camera every day. I think this is a Verizon site at Ackerman and Kenny Road.

Hello everyone, is this a known B41 site?

Yes. Dave has it logged.

All three bands 25, 26 & 41 make up Spark. Just because you have the icon does not mean Spark is active. It only means LTE is being received and your phone is using the LTE. Our market is not an active Spark market as of yet. However if you have the Spark icon, your phone is Spark ready.
That's all that I can say about Spark or B41 or B26 in this forum. In the Premiere forum it is already discussed.

Who's running G2 custom ROMs and problem free? I was going to try out Paranoid Android but it has an audio echo bug for the LS980. I really wanted to try any of the Cloudy ROMs but flashing the KK baseband plus the ROM gets me only to flashboot. Liquid Smooth has been the most functional and best I've experienced except for exponential reboot problems (start at 1 every 2 days, then progressively more frequently).
I won't use Sprint's stock KK just because of the IOT menu.

finally, after speaking to three different people, arguing with the last one about the G2 needing a sim (she said no), getting disconnected and then called back (that was nice), I have a sim on order. However, its on back order so it may be a little while until I get it.
thanks for the help guys, I'll be back when I activate the G2 and need to complain about something.
I had the same problem. After calling all the corporate stores and having the same argument "the G2 doesn't need a SIM", I called non-corp stores and they at least KNEW a SIM was needed. I did find one with the card in stock. I was treated better at a non-corp store than a corp store if you add all my corp store visits up, one trip outshined them all.
And with that I'll stop my rant.

Network upgrades...... They were coming at warp speed for a minute, but now its more like molasses ...
There are still to many holes in areas that are finished.. SE Columbus by the Reynoldsburg Walmart is LTE everywhere..
But as soon as you go to Cracker Barrel only a mile away LTE goes bye bye.. Even outside the restaurant my son was flipping from LTE to 3g on his LG G2 ( only 1.00 at best buy right now )..
There's nothing super secret to say about this. Sprint is upgrading towers. They've replaced old equipment with new, moved the RF amps to the tops of towers which has reduced cable losses and increased signal output. That much is noticeable in the field. What Sprint has not done except in a very few cases is to install new sites. Where there were gaps, there are fewer or in a lot of cases the gaps got smaller. They're still trying to cover areas with the same towers that were designed for analog service years ago that used to broadcast at many many more watts of power than the current technologies. Buildings continue to be built, spring has brought life to empty tree branches and most Sprint sites have their antennas on the lower sections of the towers. All of this equates to the need for Sprint to build new sites which thus far they have not done.
Also keep in mind all this new technology is working with between 0.100 to 0.0001 watts of power.

I was told by customer service that a tower near my work was down and would be until August. They implied August would be when the Grandview area will get switched.
