Most likely. It's when I'm between Pickerington Rd and Diley Rd. I figure there's not much load on it, but still cool to see those kinds of speeds.

That site may have M-MIMO on it and active. I drive near it every day just not past it. If you look back a page there's some pics of M-MIMO gear on a couple Columbus market towers. If you see similar equipment feel free to snap some pics of the antennas and get some bragging rights.

BTW, do you know anyone that needs a magic box so they get better data in their house or business?

Excited to see this. Columbus market seems to be doing pretty well for me lately. Already getting 120-150mbit at home/work and even see speeds around 250mbit along 33 southeast of Canal.

The site by Kingy's probably? That one tends to be pretty open. Depends on the sector and time of day. Up near Gender though still pretty rough right?

Of course now that it's been spotted AND known, anyone hunting will be able to spot them. Just like the clear to full build work. Seeing that more and more too however I wonder if those also include the MMIMO configuration?

Pulled up field test and I looks like I’m bouncing between a B41 and a B25 site with db strength over -115db all the time.

Which makes sense why my coverage is trash. Does the site ID correlate to the maps on the sponser side? (I still haven’t been upgraded yet)

Welcome to the area! I live in Pickerington near Meijer and frequent Pickerington and Canal. What you're experiencing is normal for that geographic area. The nearest site is a couple miles from that restaurant to the NNW. The next closest site is about 3 miles dues east and then the next closest is about 7 miles SSE. Voice coverage is pretty fair thanks to B26 coverage but data, not so much! It is sad because a huge shopping area and a water tower with every other carrier known to mankind does not have Sprint on it. There is a Sprint store in the strip behind the McDonalds which may have a MB or SC which might have been affecting you too. There was a store near Kroger that had an Airave at one time.

When you see the high pings nowadays, that generally is old backhaul like T-1 or T-3 lines and not fiber. As the case in Pickerington, there's a HUGE lapse in fiber. There is fiber going in down Diley Rd; I don't know who's paying for it so it might be for the cable companies. For instance going up 256 south of 70 was high pings and miserable speeds but literally north of 70 was low pings and tons of speed.

I hope that the merger with T-Mobile will open up some bandwidth in those areas.

  5. Only thing I'm going to complain about is that Sprint didn't seem to do anything special for being a loyal customer. I was a customer for 11 years and stuck out my contract when service was beyond miserable. For that reason I went shopping and found better deals. I tried TMO and found their service a lot like Sprint. I went elsewhere.

  6. hello all,

It's been a couple years since I have been here. I am trying to get some info on if the New LTE bands for Sprint that are on the IPHONE 6s and 6s Plus make a big difference. I am on the east side (Pickerington) and work at Easton. my Iphone 6 (non s) gets horrible data. I have been with Sprint 16 years I thought the Network Vision would help. Thank for the updates.

Welcome back! The iPhone 6 does not support Sprint B41 which is Sprint's spectrum to relieve the congestion of the other bands. They literally can dish out plenty of speed in that band. The iPhone 6+ does support B41. So this is technically why your data speeds are possible to be so slow.

Next is location, location, location! Easton is one of several difficult areas to get signal to because it has to maintain a certain look. Then anywhere away from the mall could be Sprint badlands because of the valley nearby. Pickering ton is also another place that towers have to be creatively placed. There are many around Pickerington and one in. Unfortunately everyone's dog and cat in Pickerington has a cell phone and it is one heavy user area. Not only so for Sprint but other carriers as well.

Your only bet for a great data experience on sprint with an iPhone is an iPhone 6s.

    Edit:

I looked again and the iPhone 6 and 6+ do list B41. Maybe the issue then is no carrier aggregation? Also keep in band B41 is short range, complete opposite of B26. Sprint is now converting Clear sites to B41 in our market creating a denser B41 experience.

  7. I live on Waterloo Road and I am about 1 mile south of the SPRINT tower that serves this area.  That tower is across the street from KINGY'S PIZZA.

Typically, I get 10 to 15 mb downloads and about the same for uploads.

However, recently, I have experienced several episodes where I have received downloads/uploads over 20 mb.

These speeds do not usually last that long, an hour or so.  Is this reflective of possible testing or something.  Just has happened in the last week or so (that I have noticed).

Could be second carrier coming online and/or carrier aggregation (CA) but CA speeds should be a lot higher. It may also depend on your distance and since you're going through a mobile access point may contribute to choking your speed.

The fastest I ever got from that site was mid 30's and it was night time. Are you using B41 or B26 LTE?

  8. How about we accept the fact that Sprint has network priority and management in place and that it does it's job. So who cares if someone runs a speed test or someone is watching YouTube. Network management prioritizes the packets as it sees fit for the defined profiles. So let's argue about another metric...my network has greater cell density than yours.

  9. First off, let's get a better anology going. Many places offer buffets for a flat rate, but also offer a menu you can order off of as well. Depending on how hungry people are, they may or may not get the buffet. Many times the buffet is more expensive then just ordering off the menu, and if I'm not that hungry, ordering off the menu is a better way to go because it's cheaper. However, many people that buy the buffet don't eat enough to make it worth while.

Either way, the restaurant doesn't tell me I am taking food away from other hungry mouths if I eat more from the buffet then the next guy. They also benefit when I order the buffet and don't eat much. If I decide to eat just meat off of the buffet, their costs do rise. But my mother isn't there either to stop me if I just want to eat desserts; I have paid for all I can eat, and as long as I'm not walking out with doggie bags under my shirt, it's my choice what I eat.

What concerns me is you are implying that occasional speedtests are hurting other users. Can you tell me by how much a speedtest umbrellas/slows the network down? Am I going to take an average speed of 50mbs at a tower and make it so everyone else gets unusable data from a speedtest or 2? Should I no longer stream radio/music?

If a restaurant serves lousy food, the restaurant either goes out of business or makes changes to correct it. This is precisely what Sprint did. Sprint was serving lousy data and lost a lot of business. They now have great data for most people in many markets.

All of the big 4 carriers also realized 3 things:

    1) People would order the buffet just because it was there.

    2) If they kept pushing/offering the buffet, it would not be viable long-term.

    3) They also realized very few people got their money's worth at the buffet and now try to help you order off the menu what you really need.

I'm the guy that keeps ordering the buffet and just has 2 pieces of cake. Sorry I cut in line in front of the people eating dinner first, but cake is what I wanted. Do I overpay based on usage? Yup. Does the resturant tell me I can't have dessert if I don't eat a salid first? Nope. But I keep paying for the buffet because I never know when I may want to eat a bit more.

So when you go to Frishe's you get the buffet and not the big boy? Because the big boy isn't on the buffet. Of course that was a silly question because you go for the cake and Frische's charges per slice for cake. Unless you steal the cake? To which you suck because their cake is not worth paying for but stealing the cake is still law breaking.

  10. I think it brings up a greater transparency as to how much data is wasted on frivolous speed tests. When I'm on the train, I want to enjoy Youtube without buffering because some jackhole is showing off his e-peen speeds by running speedtests again and again.

I'll just say that whatever I'm using my paid for data to do at the time is my business as long as I'm not breaking any laws. It's what is important to me at the time. Nobody has any business telling me what I can or can't do with something that I've paid for. On principle alone you have it wrong. It's like buying a sandwich, but only allowed to eat half because there are starving people in the world.

  11. Has there been anything done with the decommissioned iDen sites or in the works in Columbus due to network expansion announced?

The old Nextel equipment has been pretty well removed. I'll lean on completely removed as I believe that was a pre-req for the FCC sign-off of rebanding. Any new Sprint sites whether at an existing Nextel site or otherwise would have to be permitted. I haven't read of any new permits unless our crack permit searching team is taking a nap. Verizon has been deploying small cells all over town. It would not surprise me if that becomes the new fad for the rest of the carriers. These are similar to wireless access points and have a range of 500-1000 feet. Truthfully though, the only new sites I've seen are AT&T and Verizon sites.

  12. For the cell identity to display correctly, it needs to be set to bold.

Knowing his location and the PCI it should have been the site at Livingston and 256. This is based on the map information being correct. To backwards verify I took the physical site ID from that site in the map and converted sector 0 to decimal and got 140535296. There's enough digits to verify that. It does look like his phone was in transition between bands though.

  13. I think all Sprint has been talking about is Pico cells. Verizon has been putting Pico cells up all over Columbus. Sprint would do themselves well to build out full NV sites where Clear sites are and Sprint already isn't coexisting. Unfortunately I don't think they're too worried about voice, not nearly as much as they are data. They should just sell off their voice service to another carrier, become just a broadband service and call it a day.

  14. Wow, nice. ODOT project #140535 was awarded December 30 to Shelly & Sands. Looks like March 15 is a deadline, it must be a start date. That's the date all the utility companies say they will have their stuff relocated.

All the bid docs can be found here: http://contracts.dot.state.oh.us/home.do just search for project 140535. I just finished downloading the drawings. 1003 pages of all kinds of stuff, elevations, properties, etc. It will be nice when it's all done.

  15. I'm just guessing but that work could be anything. They're getting ready to build an overpass/ramp at that intersection this spring. They've been doing lots of underground stuff. They ran fiber last year to that pole from winchester road around McDonald's to the tower.

This was a fiber crew the likes I've not seen. I forget the company name now but recognized it then. There was around a dozen trucks complete with orange flags. Maybe fiber from a competing telecom to the one that Sprint had construct a drop.

I'm intrigued about a new interchange in Carroll though. You sent me looking. I know there's nothing on the bidding page for any work involving US33, that was easy to search. I couldn't tell from the awarded projects though without clicking through every ODOT awarded project. I did find a section on MORPC about a 270-Lancaster bypass though. It looks like based on plans from 2003 (or earlier, saw a reference to 1997) there is a year 2025 and year 2028 construction plan in place and some of which has been completed. Projects like Diley Rd off-ramp, Diley Rd widening. A link here, it's a long read http://www.morpc.org/trans/Hwy_US_33_Major_Investment_Study.pdf
