  1. As of yet, we don't know. We have a few members out there with LG G2's, they have not been able to get Band 41 or Band 26 enabled successfully. So I'm assuming that until the update, we won't be able to activate those bands on our own. From what I understand, the correct APN values are not present on the phone to allow those bands to work. Without those (and there's no good way to guess what they are) you won't be able to authenticate on those bands.

    Makes sense.

I've gone back and forth with Sprint over the past few weeks expressing my displeasure with the experience I've had with them this past year. I want get into the whole sob story but it goes well beyond the glacial pace of the roll out of LTE in Denver. Through my work we get corporate discounts on all the big 4 carriers and have penciled it out multiple ways between Sprint and T-Mobile. I've been with Sprint for 11 years and really don't want to leave. Until the latest news picking up steam with Spark and other items such as one-up I was pretty convinced to leave.

Hopefully you're right, sooner rather than later on the devices being able to enable on band 41 or 26. I am supposed to be getting a call back from the person in retention handling my escalation today, not looking for roses to fall from the heavens but something of a gesture would be welcome.

  2. They are capable, but for an unknown reason, the TD-LTE side of the devices has been disabled for at least the next couple of weeks. So out of the box, no they will not be able to. However, Sprint says by early 2014 (hopefully sooner than later) they will push out an update to the LG G2 and Nexus 5 to enabled Tri-Band. No one is sure why this is, if we ever find out we'll be sure to let everyone know.

Thanks for the quick response on this. Is this device ID,map address (not sure if I have the right term there, forgive me please) or some other method of disabling. I guess what I'm asking is, is there a way (obviously unsupported I imagine) to get past this disabling? I'm a patient person, but you know...thought I'd ask!

  3. Here's a question. I apologize if this maybe a bit uninformed, but after reading this thread for months and following the Denver market closely (yes, I'll put in the obligatory it's been painful comment, lol) I wanted to pose this to the group here.

With the Nexus 5 finally becoming official today, and other Tri-Band handsets becoming available it made me think.....

A few months ago, Robert posted http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2172-network-visionlte-colorado-market-denvercolo-springsfort-collinspueblogrand-jct/page-30?hl=%2Bviva+%2Btri&do=findComment&comment=173065 that he was getting LTE via a Tri-Band Mifi device along I25, Park Meadows Mall was called out specifically.

Would these new tri-band handsets be able to pick up the signal from these acquired clear wire sites that have been converted or will we still be waiting longer?

  4. Funny you should mention it. Just drove it yesterday on my way home from Utah and did not get a single hit anywhere along 25 heading into Denver.

Back when that tower first went live I bolted up there that first weekend like the winning powerball ticket was waiting for me. I stayed around the area for a bit and never once got a hit so I wonder of it cycles.

  5. I JUST GOT LTE IN COLORADO SPRINGS!!!

I see your Sensorly contributions. Looks like a very weak signal. Did you get the Signal Check Pro app or check your signal strength in your dialer menus? I added some weak signal data on the way to work this morning around I-70 and Vasquez.

Oh wait, I'm in LA, not COS. Sorry for the confusion. ;) I just got LTE in LAX! <Insert evil laugh>

    Ha! Well played.

  6. I know that bars don't tell the whole story, but you can see on the speedtest that got about 4Mb that he was sitting on about 2 bars, while the 11 Mb speedtest had full bars. Would those signal strength bars still be showing 1xRTT, or are we getting voice over LTE on these towers?

Here is the rest of the detail from my 11.8 mb test this morning. Not sure this says anymore than is already known but thought I'd post it in case.

On an lte note, the speculation about service interuptions indicating lte work.. . Add federal and mineral area of Littleton to that list. Was at a buddys place this morning and the signal strength was goin ape poo on me. Max to nothing back to max.......and yes.......lost 3g down to 1x.....here's to hoping

  8. The Dish/Sprint/Softbank news keeps coming in!

I agree with S4GRU, regardless of what happens with the buy out topics, the LTE project has been paid for previously. They're not on a "pay as you go" construction plan. =)

    Here is the latest:

Sprint and SoftBank today announced an amendment to their original merger agreement that makes the deal more attractive to current Sprint investors. Chiefly, SoftBank is upping the amount of cash it will pay to investors by $4.5 billion to a total of $16.64 billion. The amount of cash being pumped into the front-end of the deal is being offset by a $3 billion reduction in the $4.9 billion investment SoftBank planned to make in New Sprint after the acquisition was completed, as well as new financing on SoftBank's part. The companies together believe that reworking the finances is a win for Sprint's shareholders and reflects Sprint's Network Vision progress and profitability improvements. However, once the deal is done, Sprint's current shareholders will have 22% ownership of the company, and SoftBank will have 78%. Under the previous terms, SoftBank would have had a 70% stake in Sprint. Separate from altering the SoftBank transaction terms, Sprint today also announced that its Special Committee evaluating Dish Networks' proposal has concluded that Dish's deal is no good. "We have expended substantial time and energy engaging with Dish over the past nine weeks, including an extensive due diligence process, but these efforts did not lead, in the Special Committee's view, to a proposal that was reasonably likely to lead to a proposal superior to SoftBank's," said Sprint. In light of these changes, Sprint has delayed its planned June 12 shareholder vote to June 25. Most U.S. regulatory bodies, including the Justice Department, SEC, and FBI, have approved SoftBank's proposed equity acquisition of Sprint. It is now awaiting review from the Federal Communications Commission.

  9. I was in a car on wildcat reserve parkway and I lost signal first time ever so I wonder if there tower being worked on in that area. It has strange wimax coverage where I have walk to get wimax signal

I've lived off Wildcat for 5 years and have dropped calls daily. I drive the length of wilcat on my way to work and there are several very poor spots that have minimal to no data and at times no voice. What you experienced is more than likely standard and not indicitive of tower work. One can hope though!

  10. For what it's worth...I filed a complaint with the FCC over some billing issues I was having with Sprint. An executive services analyst contacted me to take care of the issue, after getting it resolved she asked if I had any other questions. I asked her about 4G LTE in Denver, she said that she knew someone in the department that was responsible for putting up the 4G towers, she told me she would email me what she found out, this was her reply:

I researched the future launch of Sprint LTE in the Denver, CO. area. Future network enhancements outside of six months are subject to change; therefore, we only publish network enhancements scheduled within this timetable. Unfortunately, we do not have Sprint LTE scheduled to be launched in the Denver, CO. area within the next six months.

I really hope that this isn't true, people in the Sprint store in downtown Denver told me that Denver would get 4G LTE at the end of May or beginning of June.

I run a call center in the Denver area for a different industry, but some former employees of mine do work in the Sprint Call Center and they've heard similar word internally. So hopefully that's the story but at this point I've lost hope and will just be patient for the launch.

I think the frustrating part for a lot of Sprint users in the area, many of us had WiMax phones and while the WiMax service was less than ideal, it was excellent compared to 3G, at least where my office is. When the LTE handsets started coming out (such as the GS3 or the Evo LTE or Note 2 etc) many of us jumped to those handsets because the feature set was a much richer experience, with the trade off being a wait for LTE service.

I can't say whether I would've waited on upgrading my handset if I knew the LTE wait in Denver would've been this long but it certainly would've been something taken into consideration. Probably would've upgraded either way, end up on WiFi most of the time anyway so it's a little bit moot.

Watching with great interest right now though, thank you to all of you guys for sharing your knowledge. Learned a lot from you.

  11. Well if the church lady says so, then it must be God's will that COS will be getting an LTE install. Don't hold your breath, there are many instances of NV being installed and nothing being activated for weeks or months afterward.

I'm guessing once the install is done and there is no LTE broadcasting, we'll get to hear more of your "woe is me" for the duration of the blackout? That should be fun. Looking forward to that.

I fully understand his frustration, but agree, enough is enough. Just be patient like the rest of us damnit.

That being said, the Sprint call center by Centennial Airport is on the way to and from a friends house and I've stopped by a couple of times to see if I can get the LTE hit on my phone but as others have pointed out, no such luck.
