  1. OK, so it turns out the site at Girl Scout Rd and Meridian in Glen Carbon is not a false alarm.  The cable was back yesterday as I drove to work, and I thought I even saw a dude up there at the top of the tower as I sped by.

Stopped by this morning, and there was a crew at the site.  They said they were doing some shelter work for Sprint.  I asked if they had new cabinets, and the guy said they were in the shelter.  There was also a trailer there with three antennas and some boxes.  They crew didn't know anything about them, and said they weren't doing any of the tower work.

Not sure I can confirm that these are NV from this angle and with the lack of visible RRUs.  Anybody?

  2. I don't think that blip could be from any other confirmed 4G site.

Yea and that site is hard to look at the base driving by it and has that huge fenced in area around it with the other tower.

I wouldn't doubt it if that's from the Ballwin site.  Some of the sites (e.g. North Lindbergh behind Aldi and Riverview) seem to have crazy range.  That, and the blip looks pretty weak.

  3. Ok, so I was heading south on New Halls Ferry coming back down from the Lindbergh site behind Aldi.  Completely forgot that I would be driving right by the New Halls Ferry & Parker site, until I saw a guy up the tower.  Pulled over and snapped some pics.  Two antenna/RRU sets on a trailer.  One up on the tower being worked on.

The worker on the ground was clueless.  I asked if they were doing work for Sprint, and he replied "I have no idea."  Detective McSmogg would not be much help.

  4. It's not unusual for me to have 4G on I-270 between McDonnell and I-170, due to the I-270 & (North) Lindbergh site.  However yesterday and today I actually checked the SCIDs on the way to work.  East of I-170 I get 220 and around Lindbergh I get 51.  No surprises there.

However somewhere between Lindbergh and McDonnell, It switches to 455!  I would have expected 389 if I was still on the Lindbergh site.

Not sure where 455 is coming from.  I don't see that SCID in the MO spreadsheet.  Maybe the flagpole right there there by Dunn & Howdershell?  There were crews working on that site a couple months ago.  Seems like a pretty short range, as the signal disappears by the time I get to McDonnell.  Or maybe it's a long range shot from the newly accepted site up further on Lindbergh?

If I get a chance I'll investigate on the way home...

The N Linbergh site behind Aldi makes more sense.

Mystery solved.  Turned out it was the site up Lindbergh, behind Aldi.  Approaching from the south on Lindbergh, SCID = 455.  Then as I drove past, it changed to 286.  I'll just assume that there was another sector up north and that it was 117.

Made another little discovery on the way back down to I-270.  But I'll save that for it's own post...

  6. New blips around 367 and chambers....possibly one of the 2 new sites over there?

That was me when I was looking for 4G at the Lucas and Hunt & New Hall Ferry site earlier in the week.  Got absolutely nothing near the site, but picked it up for a brief instant on chambers heading toward 367.  It's kinda downhill there, pointing toward the Riverview site, so I assume that's what it was.

BTW, the is also a blip of mine west of 157 on 270.  I had picked that up once before, and finally got it while Sensorly was running.  I assume that was the Riverview site as well.  That thing has legs...

  7. Just yesterday afternoon, I drove down New Halls Ferry from 270 to Chambers with LTE Discovery running in cycle mode.  I was curious to see if that site was on.  My phone cycled out of airplane mode within sight of the tower.  No 4G.  Maybe I'll make another trip.

Are you seeing that it has been accepted?  4G?

Drove back down to the site at Lucas and Hunt & New Halls Ferry this afternoon looking for LTE.  Still no joy.

  9. Visited the site at Lucas and Hunt & New Halls Ferry yesterday.  It had new panels & RRUs, new cabinets, and a black SUV with dark windows parked inside the fence.  Orange wires from the window of the SUV to the cabinet.  I asked the guy inside if he was testing the new Sprint equipment and he said no, he was programming it.  Asked if he knew when they would fire it up, he said probably within a week or two.  We'll see.

  10. Found crews working at the site near the American Legion, at Enclave and 157 in Edwardsville IL.  The site is at "The Enclave" student housing complex.  (For some reason, that makes me snicker.)

Anyway, the guys there confirmed the obvious, that they were installing new Sprint panels.  This was around noon.

  11. I don't take my eyes off the road. Fire up LTE Discovery in Cycle when not connected to LTE mode. Go into LTE engineering, hold back to open split screen, drag Sensorly over, or Google map with KML of sites loaded to the bottom screen. Slide up split so I don't see garbage below the signal numbers. Slap the phone in the dash mount and drive. Serving Cell is a simple split second glance, hell a speedometer or mirror check takes longer.

Now if only I could do voice control for the palm swipe screenshot but that is very easy to do anyways.

    Sent from my little Note2

Sounds like you've got the process down pat.  As for those of us new to these apps and me new to this phone, we'll exercise a great bit of caution while driving.

  12. How were going 75 MPH on 270 this morning, it has been backing up to 157 lately because of the Clark Bridge closure?

I've seen some delays on 270, but nothing major.  Starts getting slow at around 111, right where you go from 3 lanes to 2.  (I actually had to come to a complete stop there this morning.)  I came through at around 8:30 or so this morning.

That said, I have been going in to work later than normal this week.  Maybe it's worse earlier.
