Interestingly it shows I can purchase with 2 year contract unlike any other phone on Sprint's website. Still $450..

I see that too and I am on the sero plan. But they want a $25/mo fee for a 2 yr contract.

EDIT: Just signed a 2 yr contract again for the lg v30+ for $450+tax+shipping = $490. If they start charging $25/mo on top, I'm out.

Anyone buying the v30+ tomorrow on sprint? If we go to another carrier (after paying off the phone in full), are there different versions of the phone to use on other US domestic carriers?

  1. Are you also from the area?

Verizon has so many oDAS nodes all over Jamaica Plain, Brookline, Chestnut Hill, Newton, West Roxbury, etc

Used to be a long time ago. Moved away and considering moving back. I was talking to a sprint store rep about your results above. He wasn't surprised :) . I had really hoped sprint would have improved over the years, though doesn't like much has changed in Boston.

Did some testing at the Sprint store on Harvard Ave in Brookline

Thank you for posting this. I have a sprint SERO plan for $50 including a subsidized phone, but given the screen shots above you took, I think it may be worth giving up on sprint despite the sprint subsidized phone included at that rate. Going to Verizon's unlimited would be big jump in price, but xfinity mobile seems like an option (as much as I hate comcast, I'll be stuck with them @ JP). Thinking I'll wait for a while until xfinity mobile allows me to bring my own device though.

  3. I was in the DC Market and I saw plenty of B41 but where it's not available, LTE is useless. In downtown Silver Spring, B25 wouldn't even successfully connect, but 3G was fine and pulling 1.5Mbps.

Does Sprint have spectrum for a second B25 carrier in DC? They really need it.

Can confirm speeds < 1 mbps on band 25 in downtown Silver Spring, MD (zip code 20910). This evening I did a PRL update and for the first time saw a glimmer of band 26 though it was ephemeral and doesn't hold onto it for long.

I have seen band 41 at dca reagan airport, so it looks like it is patchy.

The sprint PR news report says Washington. Not DC, though who knows what they are referring to.

  4. In no particular order:

    1) Modem supporting LTE-A : Carrier aggregation - combine across and within bands (lte 25/26/41) for faster throughput

    2) Modem supporting LTE-A : 8x8 MIMO

    3) CPU supporting native h.265 encode / decode (for 4k video recording)

    4) Support Sprint's upcoming 700 mhz band 12

    5) Voice over LTE (VoLTE) - probably not functional for public use in 2015?

For Items 1-3, snapdragon 810 cpu which is a 64 bit cpu that would leverage android lollipop 64 bit os natively, support carrier aggregation through it's integrated 4g lte cat 6 (supporting upto 300 mbps) through 3 x 20mhz aggregation. It would also support h.265 natively? 4k display support (both in built and external) would be nice. 20 nm build should mean better power efficiency. LPDDR4 should get us faster ram. Not sure about support for band 12 support though. Anyone know?

TLDR: We should be looking for a sprint phone with snapdragon 810 for our next phone in 2015? Thoughts?

  5. Make sure you have a ticket open.. If not it can just be another level 1 bs.  I had a site down for 6 weeks and nothing but level 1 bs.  It took upper management 1 day to fix a 6 week issue.

Spoke with sup, apparently the tower can't be repaired as there is asbestos that needs to be cleaned at the tower location which will be done by a third party. In the very least it would be 60 days or so. My contract is coming up for renewal. My sprint sero plan used to rock back when it was $30. Now paying $50/mos, especially with no sprint service (for the most part of the day when I am at work), I have to question what I am really paying for. I have been with sprint for over a decade and would like to continue, but not sure it is prudent to pay for service if there is no service.
