  1. So here in Tyler, East Texas, ATT has started expanding to new sites, 3 so far brand new monopoles. It seems these newer sites are being installed with WCS ready equipment. Anyone else seeing sites like these?

I saw a site being worked on in Tulsa, brand new panels were added with similar antennas and colored wiring. I wasn't sure what was going on, (still not but this may be a clue).

  2. Cellular One is shutting down service in Montana, and according to a letter it sent to customers in May, and will also shut down service in Wyoming as well. According to Gary Duncan, a spokesman for the Montana Public Service Commission, Cellular One will cease operations in the two states on Aug. 31.

Sprint spokeswoman Crystal Davis confirmed to FierceWireless that Sprint has purchased Cellular One's tower leasing rights in Montana, but she said Sprint has not purchased any of Cellular One's customers, spectrum or retail locations in the state. She declined to say how much the transaction is worth.

  3. One of the sites near my cabin is broadcasting 1x800 so now we can catch a sprint signal where we couldn't before. The problem is its unusable. Calls don't go through. I think this may be due to how weak the signal is.

Maybe if that stupid GMO was a full build the signal would be stronger.

  4. They are scared of their shareholders. They have enough cash and access to cash if they wanted to take the hit. And this is at a time when their original network is filling up, they have the least 10MHz+ contiguous spectrum and desperately need to deploy CA to compete on performance and Sprint is starting to outperform them in some key cities, like NYC. They need to just do it.

Not that I'm losing sleep because AT&T is making bad decisions. But I'd prefer to keep them over VZW.

It looks like Verizon has turned on AWS in Rapid City. Maybe they are better now than they used to be.

  5. The good news is US Cellular is rolling out LTE in the area so in the future if you have a band 12 device you might roam onto their network deep indoors for free.

There aren't any sprint band 12 devices yet. I bet the iphone 6 will be one of the first.

  6. I just watched a few video reviews and it doesn't appear to be active. Probably will be active when they announce public beta version of yosemite. They were that unstable? I mean it is a beta so that's to be expected.

On the video review I watched the guy said that when he started recording the video he was at 100% on his iPad and by the end of it, he was at 72%.

On ios 8 my download speeds were cut in half and the radio was generally unstable. My iCloud restore stopped midway for some reason and the app store would not allow me to be on any page but featured (and wouldn't work). Tethering was broken too (which is a big problem for me).

So as quickly as I could I came crying back to IOS 7.1.1

I still have Yosemite on my Mac but I plan to revert on it too. The application switching lag is too much.

  7. Mac OS Yosemite has a lag switching between apps for me (pin wheel for 5-10 seconds nearly every time).

I was about to install IOS 8 on my iPhone 5C then I heard about how buggy it is. I'm going to hold off on that unless its easy to return to 7.1.1

I've heard its possible but has anyone returned to IOS 7.1.1 after having installed IOS 8? If its hacky and risky to go back I'll just wait until the betas become more stable.

  8. Also supposedly one of the main Sprint guys was ask to summit a wish list for Oklahoma and that there are suppose to be 400-500 new sites getting deployed at some point so lets hope Sprint expands their coverage state wide and nationally if they want to survive.

That seems unlikely but what you might see in the near future is new LTE roaming coverage provided by US Cellular, which should increase coverage dramatically for the state.
  9. Saw a new tower going up here in Stilly but not for sure who's it is. What's the best way to tell if it's Sprints or not? Also hope they keep doing their upgrades to their towers. That's the two main things Sprints needs to be doing right now is upgrading their current network and putting up new towers to expand their coverage. I'm just afraid they made to many bad choices that cost them to much money and time that they are in serious catch up mode. Either they will get caught up or go under or get bought out..

There is a thread on how to spot network vision equipment here somewhere but you could also look at some of the pictures I've posted in this thread. If the cabinets look like what I posted earlier it may be a sprint site.

  10. I guess it's about time to get a tri-band phone. I really want a GS5 but I'm hearing that it may have some reception and LTE handup issues :-(

I'm afraid I've gone the way of the iPhone so my opinion on Android devices isn't worth much but maybe the LG G-Flex?

  11. I have the htc one m8 now, but have had horrible connectivity issues so I am returning it later today.  It may be a bum unit, but the issues I experienced so scarred me I am hyper sensitive to connectivity now.

So out of all of the current sprint phones on lte, which has the best connectivity?

both among sprints spark capable phones AND non spark lte phones (i.e. how is the note 3?)  if the csfb? issues are going to stick around, I may skip spark phones unless you all think there are better connectivity options with one of them.

I get signal with an iPhone 5C in places I've never seen service before, but then again I've never tried a Nexus 5 or a Motorola device (which are supposed to be the best for signal).

There are no 800mhz LTE capable Motorola devices yet so I would still avoid them.

The Nexus 5 is prone to csfb issues due to it being triband.

I've owned the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One (M7). The iPhone 5C is miles ahead of them both signal wise.

I know a lot of people hate the iPhone but if you don't, you might want to give a 5S or 5C a chance. They are immune to csfb issues, have great radios and support 800mhz LTE. The drawback is that they won't support the upcoming TD-LTE network.
