  1. They will be open again next week. Super pumped. I can reach out to one of their admin to make sure they have them.

It turned out being another one of those weird situations where it just fixed itself on its own [emoji3061]

I plugged it back in after giving up on it after a while to try this command along with another suggestion from LTEHacks and it just..... worked? I didn’t run any commands or change anything, it’s just working now [emoji848]

No idea if it just needed a couple restarts or the modem needed to run an update or something. I’m happy it’s working now though.

  2. Got some bad news. While visiting the location this weekend, we saw reliability issues and unfortunately it's as I suspected, the temperatures are too high. I was seeing 88C temperatures at the modem which is outside the LM960's max operating temperature of 85C 😔

So I had to revert to the old setup with the modem inside the house and connected to the top two antennas in a 2x2 MIMO configuration with the two old 35ft LMR400 cables I'm glad I left in place.

Thankfully speeds haven't taken too much of a hit since I can still hit 90mbps downlink.

I'm thinking I will take the panel antenna with its components to my parent's house and use it there for 4x4 MIMO in their attic which hopefully won't see nearly the heat but I'll have to make sure to watch it.

  3. Edit: I’m an idiot, my connectors for my primary antenna cables were RP-SMA instead of regular SMA. I bought two longer SMA adapters and foolishly two shorter RP-SMA adapters. No wonder the LMR cable connectors didn’t want to fit [emoji37]. With the two longer SMA adapters connected to the primary modem ports everything connected! Now I’m just mad RP-SMA exists!

I got my new antenna, WG3526P and LM960 all assembled with the AT&T SIM inserted. I flashed the latest version of rOOter on the WG3526P and set my default APN to "broadband" which I believe is right for AT&T but I'm having some issues I think. The LM960 doesn't appear to want to connect. It's just stuck at connecting....

I'm not sure what steps I might have forgotten or if I messed something up?1350614555_ScreenShot2020-06-25at5_56_07PM.thumb.png.da53ed441767de6c5a48afe888e56e30.png

  4. I sell them for 150 plus shipping.   The proxicast is pretty sweet. Make sure to get the 5G model, it includes CBRS and the lower C-band going to auction this year.

I wonder how realistic it would be to expect any benefit from Low Band 4x4 MIMO on the proxicast? That looks to be the biggest possible advantage to the proxicast. (Edit: It appears the LM960 only supports 4x4 MIMO on mid-band anyway)

Your antennas look sleeker and have a bit higher gain on the mid-bands I would expect to see the most benefit from 4x4 on.

I’m in very much an Edge-Of-Cell area with this installation so 4x4 MIMO gains in general may be mostly wishful thinking on my part.

  5. Thanks for all the help!

I called, left a voice message and sent them an email.

Unfortunately it looks like they were pretty quick shipping since I already have a tracking number and an ETA of Monday. Hopefully you’re right and it hasn’t actually shipped yet.

I am in Oklahoma, so that’s part of why the shipping is so quick to get here. I guess that could mean returns are faster too. So at least there’s that.

Edit: just heard back from them. They want to charge a 15% to 25% restocking fee. I’m thinking I’ll avoid this group in the future. Is there really a huge difference between the two modules?

Edit 2: they decided not to charge me a restocking fee and they’re processing the RMA. Much happier now!

  6. I know a good vendor that makes all these custom cables I order, let me know if you need some. Good prices, free shipping. I just order new cables most of the time but having tools on hand means you can make mods now if you don't have time to wait, but that is if you anticipate needing to do this often.

Welp, I picked the wrong one. Is there a huge difference?

They charged me a Tariff and taxes which I may or may not get refunded so it could cost me at this point to switch to the second revision modem.

  7. I just built this PoE and USB 3 upgraded WG3526 with an LM960 in it today [emoji4]

I am testing it on the two Kathrein antenna I put on my TrashMonster[emoji769] tower.

    It works great so far.

I use 3 foot of LMR400 7/16 DIN male to SMA male.

    IMwqFGf.jpg

The cards are pretty on par with each other. They both get lots of aggregation combos, the Quectel is Eng samples only and the LM960 is on production revision 2, model A18 now. IMEI manipulation is more for Quectel if you need that for your plan, Telit I haven't figured that part out yet. The 960 is mPCIe so no adapters for most embedded router slots, the EM20 is M.2 so unless you get one of those fancy new routers I mentioned above you need an adapter.

What other questions do you have for me?

    Thanks!

Just ordered an LM960, it should make things easy and it comforts me a bit that it’s a final product rather than an engineering sample.

In my case, I won’t have to play with IMEI stuff since I have a grandfathered Original Unlimited Plus plan with official unlimited Hotspot access on the line.

That WG router you use looks like a good option except it’s out of stock at LTEFix. It looks like you did what I would do with that router too on the antenna ports (replace a couple WiFi ports with LTE ports for 4x4 MIMO).

I’m thinking in exchange for a little cable loss to feel better about it durability wise, I might mount my enclosure under the eave right under the antenna J-Pole so there is some shelter from direct sunlight and precipitation.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with my cabling. I’m considering either buying tools to cut and re-terminate my existing LMR400 cables to the shorter length or buying new cables at the appropriate length. It looks like new cables would be cheaper but maybe getting those tools could be worthwhile for future changes?

    Thanks again!

  8. It’s been a while since I’ve posted here since I’ve switched away from Sprint but I happened upon your thread while researching an upgrade to my Rural Internet Setup and I thought you might be able to help some

I currently have a MoFi 4500 with two 35ft long LMR400 cables going from inside my cabin up to two panel antennas on the roof https://imgur.com/a/NpOjzwM

It’s working ok but I think I’m missing out on a lot of bandwidth since bands 14 and 66 have been added to the area and I could get better signal with a modem mounted behind the antennas (eliminating a lot of line loss).

I’ve been looking at mounting a Telit LM960 or Quectel EM20 in a panel behind the antennas outside along with a Golden Orb compatible router powered by POE and adding another pair of antennas for 4x4 MIMO.

Since you’ve tested both the EM20 and the LM960, which do you prefer? It appears the LM960 actually has better CA combinations for AT&T’s network even though it’s theoretically not as high level of LTE technology category as the Quectel.

It appears to me most of the higher order carrier aggregation on the Quectel is with CBRS or LTE unlicensed which I don’t think I’ll ever see in this rural Edge of Cell area.

Also does it appear to you that having these installed outside would be a reliability issue? It gets really hot here in the summers with plenty of severe weather and it can be cold in Winters. The LM960 at least appears to have a pretty broad operating temperature range.

    Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

  9. Why Robert? What is taking them so long? Camping season is coming up soon and I need that US Cellular coverage in central Oregon.

U.S. cellular thinks they're big and bad like Verizon, so they are demanding Verizon roaming fees. Idiotic but that's how they work. Roaming probably accounts for a significant portion of their revenue.

  10. I put a Mid Range Full Screen Radio/Nav/DVD deck in my Isuzu VehiCross in 2008 and it had HD Radio. Most of the stations in Northern CA I listened to sounded like Sat Radio. Clearer, but tinny. Most had 2 or 3 stations per channel. And that is likely why.

I have since bought similar Mid Range Full Screen Radio/Nav/DVD decks for my Suburban, my wife's Isuzu Ascender, my Isuzu Trooper and my son's Chevy Impala in 2010, 2012 and 2014. And none of them have HD Radio. So, in after market radios, maybe the HD Radio fad is already over? Or maybe at least now just being offered in top line decks?

    Using Moto X² on Tapatalk

My 2014 Mazda6 has HD radio and I only have the mid-trim (touring). I actually really appreciate the better sound quality. More and more stations are becoming HD in my area.

I am somewhat disappointed on how long it has taken for HD radio to become popular. It really should be standard equipment by now. It's been around since I was in high school (graduated in 09) yet it's still a special feature for aftermarket receivers.

We just bought a speed boat (for the opulent price of $750 lol) and I wanted to add an HD radio capable receiver to it. I assumed that was the standard tech these days, but it isn't. You have to buy a special optional component to add on to a higher priced receiver. So it's still in the early stages for that market segment, which is a damn shame. They've had years to get the tech in their products.

I guess part of the problem is that I expect the evolution of all electronics to be as rapid as it has been for cellular technology.

  11. I'm glad about the expanded coverage (and the map for Michigan looks perfect. Its not Verizon-level coverage by any means, but it's close enough that 98% of people here will have zero problems).

But Page 23 is concerning. Based on the Dallas example provided, it looks like they're planning to increase "coverage" using low-band, but do so by removing rural sites, and un-densifying the network. (In the photo TMO provided, 35 / 35-W / 35-E from Hillsboro heading north. "Mid-band only" shows 7 cell sites. "LTE + Low band" shows only 4. Similar patterns are visible on all the freeways heading into the city).

I really hope that's just an artifact of band scoping (all 7 sites will remain, but not all necessarily run low-band) or just mid-network upgrade weirdness in the photo.

But if it's not -- if the removal of sites shown in their photo is an accurate reflection of their strategy -- that's a huge mistake.

More likely not a removal of sites but skipping them for 700mhz. They will probably stay online just broadcasting mid-band PCS and AWS.

  12. I have good call quality and don't normally miss calls, i rely on my VZW ipad a lot again now though. It depends on the time, your location and how you hold your mouth to it all work. Im not renewing with Sprint again this time. The clock ran out. Tired of paperweight smartphones. Sad

Tmobile has a lot of new rural coverage now. They will be pretty great (except deep indoors) soon (and mostly already are).

  13. So my parents want to save some money on their land line. I found out Sprint has released a new version of the phone connect recently and we're probably going to get one. I've heard the previous models had issues. Has anyone tried this new one yet? Any issues?

edit: I didn't know what section to post this in, I figured hotspots and modems was the closest.

  14. I'm already at over 1 gb in speed tests on ookla >.>.....Good thing for unlimited data. And hey! Sprint should be happy. I am curving Orlando's speed test for the better. I wish sensorly didn't suck on iOS. I would map like crazy. I could give root metrics a go considering their most recent reports showed how much sprint has improved. Perhaps I'll help curve the results and we can get back above TMO.

  15. Apple Store is down on computer, at&t is now 14-21 days on all iPhone 6+ configs, Sprint says online that shipping times for 6+ 64 & 128 GB are 3-4 weeks to ship, and 16GB is 4-6 weeks, iPhone 6 all models are September 19 for now. Talk about crazy today.

Edit: Apple store is back up.

    Shipping times are:

    iPhone 6: all models 9/19

iPhone 6 Plus: 7-10 business days. It appears that Apple produced less Plus models for initial ship than they did of the 4.7" models. How totally predictable of them, unfortunately.

Verizon 6+ now doesn't ship until October 14. I'm glad I ordered mine extra early.
