  1. The site shows no towers for me.

Again just to reiterate its not about the towers its about an AT&T customer stating they get no service on 54th street right in the middle of Manhattan on a daily basis and the sprint customer who never had at&t who constantly complain about sprint and think that AT&T will work perfectly and that sprint is the only carrier who has complaints. This is obviously not directed at your or most other sponsors on this site but to those who think definitively that sprint is the devil and at&t or Verizon will fix all their problems. THAT SITE IS STRICTLY FOR NOOBS WHO WANNA RUN TO VERIZON BECAUSE ITS PERFECT IN THEIR OPINION! It just gives a voice to subscribers who are on the other networks who aren't lucky enough to have s4gru.

  2. I don't give this site much credibility. Most of the people giving reviews don't know anything about how cell phones/wireless networks work. Their tower locations are also very inaccurate, not even showing half the actual towers. I'm 99% sure it just pulls them from the FCC database. Bottom line: don't go by what people say, judge a carrier by your own experience and get what works.

It seems like sprint has about 60% of the towes at&t does in my area, but still works fairly well (still some holes I'll admit, but I think NV will fix that greatly). I've had access to at&t's internal mapping software, so I've seen their towers.

Yes I generally agree with you 100 percent. That site is just for complaints and not nearly as accurate and complete as this one is. I just posted this to prove a point. Some people complain even on this site about how bad sprint is and how great Verizon and AT&T is etc. How they wanna switch etc..Speed test this and speed test that always talking as if sprint is the worst and somehow the other carriers don't have complaints. (no joke read through the NYC market and u will go insane with what some people post) so I didn't post this to say its scientific or even accurate just to make aware what most of us all know as common sense. Sprint is upgrading and overhauling the network do its improving and I'm satisfied, but no carrier is perfect.

  3. Came across this website today that compares customer complaints to all carriers and locations. You will learn that every company has issues and significant ones. It will also help those people who want to switch carriers to see what reviews the other companies got. I learned sprint in NYC is rated 2nd and of all four carriers and every carrier has dead zones. (only about 500 ratings in total so far) Check it out and add any thoughts. Each person adds their location under the carrier name for specific coverage area complaints. Everyone has a different experience with carriers so what works for one may not work for others. Just interesting info. Add your reviews.

I don't wanna drive this thread off topic so i made a new one here so respond here if possible

Click on your city at the bottom of page..or put zip but i learned clicking on city works better.

I recommend adding your review and spreading awareness as well.

  5. I think significant parts of the Upper West Side have lte but are unmapped on Sensorly. Anyone on the forums have an android device who can spend some time mapping there? I walked up Broadway from 66th to 76th with lte.

Also just received a brief period of lte on 50th and 7th this morning.

Will do I live in the area. Just came back from a business trip but I will map at some point this week when I get some time.

  6. I'm currently sitting in Chicago airport traveling for business and man is sprint sweet. LTE all over the airport great signal speed 4mbs down with -105 and just made my first call on 800smr. Calls are super clear (may just be placebo cuz I'm kinda excited lol...I have an hour before I leave on my connected flight so and I intend to kill off my battery...lol can't wait for this to hit NYC...

  7. Wouldnt it be great to live in the expidited Chicago market where lte and 800mhz voice and NV is virtually done. Granted in the beginning it was a mess (calls constantly being dropped and the network was virtually un usable) but i would live with that for a few months to have the market upgraded as fast as CHi Town. lol backhaul delays yeah right...If sprint lit fire under them they would get things done they way they did in chicago..Its all business and unfortunatly they are working at their own speed. More billable hours i guess.

  8. Is it just me or is Samsung better at deploying NV than alcatel. The Samsung equipment seems more efficient. Samsung is used in Chicago where LTE and 3g goes live faster than the alcatel equipment that we use in NY. Here a cluster must be complete before NV 3g Goes live then after that 4G lte goes live but it takes some time.. some people have been saying that Samsung doesn't need to wait for clusters to launch 3g and lte can go live at a site much faster. Also much of Chicago gets 800 voice faster than we get as well. Hoping in the end the results will be the same...Any thoughts?

Ok just answered my own question...

its not efficiency its method..Samsung is deploying using a better method in my opinion.

Difference in vendors. Every vendor is installing both 3G and LTE equipment at each site at the same time. However, the 3G upgrades have to be brought online in clusters. LTE does not need to be brought online in clusters.

So Samsung and Ericsson decided to bring up their LTE first. Alcatel Lucent decided to bring up their 3G clusters first and then come back and bring up LTE. I'm not certain of the reasons behind the decision. It's just the way every AlcaLu market has been, except Norfolk, Raleigh/Durham and Charlotte.

  9. If they announce NYC market, that means they finished converting the whole market. That is quite fast compared to the speed which Sprint is going. That would matter to people. And now t-mobile would be a lot more attractive in NYC.

Yeah that is not remotely true. Sprint launched chicago at about 60% network vision sites live an about 40% lte live. Just means its widespread enough that most users will be able to experience it somewhere around the city. Means nothing

  10.

not sure but one of the member spoke to network infrastructure workers came to his building and he noticed they took down 8 old panels and installed only 4 new panels from what i can remember. maybe the new panels do not require to put that many facing the same direction?

Yeah that was one of my older post. That was a bit of misinformation on my part. I did not see all the panels when I first posted that info here because they pushed some of the panels back from their original position. So indeed my location had the same amount of panels as pre nv install but they were a bit harder to spot.

  11. i think the ones of the left looks like sprint towers but the ones on the right corner looks like other carrier?

Yeah you may be right..that would explain why there are so many panels up there. I just learned that sprint was up there because I saw the techs with their equipment in the lobby and I asked... They confirmed sprint nv is updated at that site..but they didn't mention if there were any other carriers up there.

Here is another pic of just the ones on the right...

If the panels are directly over your head, I'm curious if your phone would even connect to them, or pick up another tower nearby.

To answer your question I used the signal finder app and noticed that I am not connecting to the panels on my roof but rather a site one block north from me with a signal strength of -75.

  12. Geez now that that's finally taken Care of, here is a pic of my newly updated nv panels on my roof upper west side...sorry these are the best pics I could get with my evo. Panels along south east and south west as well as panels circling the roof and more on the north east n west that you cant see on the photos

  13. I had tried Signal Finder but have switched to OpenSignal.

Yeah open signal is the one that is unresponsive on my evo lte but ill try signal finder.

Take those apps with a grain of salt. They only attempt to show your 1X connected site. Some areas it works, I've never seen it work in my area. The only way is leg work and using your debug screens to figure out your site.

Yeah agreed...Will do the legwork and see if im indeed connecting to my tower on my building..I can say my voice service works well in my apartment (all bars and even on the elevator) so i very well may be on that signal.

  14. If the panels are directly over your head, I'm curious if your phone would even connect to them, or pick up another tower nearby.

Is there an app i can download (android) that will show which tower i am connected to? I tried one in the past but it didn't work. I assume that it will connect to another tower that is two blocks away when i'm in my apartment tho. I will do a signal strength test later as well.

  15. This should hopefully help clear up the confusion from some members here with the launch market theroy..As stated before the launch is just an official press release. This was taken from a sponsor in Chicago with inside info from December. Chicago was launched in December.

    Posted 04 January 2013 - 03:59 PM

~75% of the Chicago market towers have received NV upgrades of some kind, either 3G, 800 SMR, or LTE.

~45% of Chicago towers have had LTE upgrades.

~25% of Chicago towers have 800 SMR upgrades.

This information is from mid-December, so the numbers may be slightly higher than that now.

So in conclusion sprint will launch the market with a press release once enough sites have been enhanced but that doesn't mean that LTE will magically appear everywhere or get stronger instantly until most clusters are upgraded..

I recommend instead of posting hear say and speculation just read the other forums and RESEARCH. You can learn a lot from reading through this site..Me personally im more excited about the 800mhz switch for voice which will greatly enhance where we can get service on our phones and how strong the signals will be indoors. internet on my phone is bonus and it works well enough for me in the meantime.

I will post some pictures tonight of my newly upgrade NV panels on my roof. There are about 15 panels up there and it was completed over a week ago and still no LTE or faster 3g but that is expected.

  16. i was just browsing through http://www.clear.com/coverage and all the towers for wimax 4g is also a sprint site. they have towers exactly where sprint has towers for at least for flushing and LIC in queens. does this mean if you have had good wimax 4g service, you will have better LTE signal since it uses lower frequency than wimax?

Hey that map from what I can see is accurate. I would assume that the signal strength will be the the same once its completed.. my signal has been weak as far as 4g LTE because i Know the lte towers have been pretty widespread but once done it should improve. Only one tower out of the 4 in my direct area has 4g LTE live so the signal strengh is poor in my apartment but it should get better

  17.

And people have to learn have more patience. Focusing on the trouble spots won't help because they will slow down the rest of the market.

I'm saddened by the fact that people still don't realize what it takes to upgrade a site.

noted....new to this site and nv upgrade process

  18. For those you who live in NYC yall are so lucky im really hating live on the borderline of Queens bc non of my towers have been upgraded . I feel like Long Island isn't gonna get the full LTE experience until the NYC market is officially unlocked I don't understand why they can't just do it all together you know , .

Yeah i feel for you bro...at least queens bronx and bk get upgrades quicker than manhattan...They should focus on trouble spots first then the rest of the market. Like 57th street in midtown is the absolute worst on the west side...Well patients got us this far..

  19. Wow samsung makes panels too? What dont they make? I know that they make cars also but sold the division to renault or something

Yeah i dont know they may have had samsung empty boxes that had some equipment in it that that they were putting the old panels inside. Man i know half of the users on this site would kill to catch a tech in the middle of an install and bombard them with questions..i was caught off guard when i saw them in my lobby and couldn't think of all the tech questions I would normally have. lol

  20. I am not sure but if you live right below the tower, do you get good reception?

Funny thing is i never knew my tower was sprint owned until today when I asked the techs....Never had any issues with connection before the upgrade...I always had full bars of reception in my home and even on the elevator. At night i would pull about 1.5 down and 1 up of 3g coverage before the upgrade but during the day 3g would be .50 down and up. It will be interesting to see what my numbers are like when they turn it on.
