  1. Hey guys, good news. I woke up this morning (I live on the corner of Econ and Lee Vista) and I had a great LTE signal... looks like Sprint turned one of the towers on that was completed.

I mapped the area around my apartment complex and Lee Vista, and will map more after work. I mapped a good 350 points on Lee Vista all the way to Narco and the 528 that should show up on Sensorly soon. Extremely excited, I had the following speeds inside of my place:

  2. Its on conway and hoffner.

There is also another tower with panels up on south orange ave. and landcaster rd.

Semeron and Curry ford has panels up.

Colonial and Alafaya on top of the hotel are lte panels.

Dean and curry ford has lte panels.

Chickasaw over 408 has lte panels.

These are from the towers Ive noticed.

No backhaul is my guess on why none of these towers are active.

Yet none are active... I wonder why?

If the Dean/Curry was active I'd get 4G where I live for sure.

  3. No. The dean and curry ford tower does not have a birds nest. Goldenrod and curry ford has the birds nest.

Oh ok, so the Dean and Curry Ford is done just hasn't been turned on yet.

Boy that tower is HUGE, I think it'd have a lot of coverage once on. It'd pretty much fill the gap between the Avalon tower for UCF/Vista Lakes area... can't wait.

  4. Yes, dean and curry ford has been done as well as the Christmas tower and the Daytona tower. I wonder if they will all go on at the same time. They all are reportedly completed but not active. Ive seen the tower on curry ford and goldenrod and it has a birds nest on top so that tower has no chance of being upgraded anytime soon.

Wait, so the tower on Dean and Curry Ford is done but has birds nests on it? Would that still stop them from activating it?

  5. I have to say, after spending a weekend in Tampa I have no IDEA wtf is going on in Orlando.

While I got absolutely no LTE anywhere in Tampa (I was close to the airport and downtown), the 3G there is incredible (relatively speaking).

I was getting 1.5mb pretty much everywhere and I was able to ACTUALLY use data on my phone w/o having to sit and wait for things to load.

WOW, not sure if the backhaul in Tampa is set and going strong but it would sure seem so as the speeds there are great. Makes data speeds in Orlando look even more horrendous... come on Sprint lets get some LTE to the West side of Orlando already! SIck of these slow speeds.

  6. So I went to the tower by Lake Emma and I4 today in Lake Mary, all of the LTE stuff is there, and its somewhat hooked up, but they cant climb the tower and install it because there is a birds nest sitting on the top of it, and there are baby birds in it. and it mating season. I spoke to the guy, and he said there is some Federal Law that prevents them from climbing it, and if they did, the person that climbed the tower would get fined $100,000 and anyone that was in the fenced in area would get fined $10,000 each, and he said there are usually about 6 people there. It might not be until JULY that it actually gets going, but said it could be sooner. The nest was HUGE, it literally was all over the top of the tower. Hopefully one of the other towers in Lake Mary can get worked on. I am going to visit a couple more of them tomorrow and see what I can find out. Just sucks that the LTE is there (I could see the 'cords' ran up the tower part way, and the guy was explaining to me what basically the LTE part was) but a damned birds nest is stopping it from going live. They could turn it on now, but it would basically have no reach since its practically on the ground. =/

Thanks for this, as much as I'd like to be angry at the birds they were probably here long before humans were so gotta let them do their thing... we already destroy enough animal habitat as it is, this must be their way of payback! LOL

  7. I know it's been mentioned here before but Avalon Park in East Orlando has GREAT 4G coverage. Just for comparison's sake, I reinstalled an app that I knew took around 1 minute 15 seconds to download on decent 3G coverage. The same app took less than 10 SECONDS to download!!! It's ridiculous to think that I live less than 2 miles away in Waterford Lakes and I get mediocre 3G knowing what's on the horizon. Hopefully, this 4G spreads very very quickly!

I got great LTE out there too a few weeks ago... it can't come soon enough!

  8. So my data speed of full bars of 3G service at home has gone down from 1.5 - 2.0 to .3 to .5 ... from what I know I believe that the tower I am connected to is getting updated or something because it never gets this low

    Near John young / 417

I live near the intersection of 528 and 417, and I probably get the most decent 3G speeds here than anywhere else in town.

That said, when I work from home sometimes I'll notice consistent 3G speeds of 1.5-2mbps down.

As SOON as rush hour hits, the speeds drop dramatically to what you're getting. Around 10pm, they jump back up.

I doubt it's usually anything to do with "upgrades", probably tower usage... That said I could be grossly wrong.

  9. On my Iphone how do I map LTE on Sensorly?

You can't map with an iPhone, only an Android device.

I hit LTE (didn't have a chance to do a speed test) on Dean and University.. mapped it on Sensorly.

Not sure if it was already mapped previously but it died off a bit before Highway 50... I also mapped a bit on Econ and Highway 50 but the speeds were really slow and it didn't last long.

  10. I am hoping for it to come soon as well! When I look at Sensorly, it seems to be ALL around me, but not here =/ Oh well, it will come soon enough. And hopefully the 3G speeds get better before then. I keep switching back and forth between an LTE phone and a WiMax phone because I really can not handle the 3G speeds, if I am out, its slower than dial-up. But, hopefully soon.. I saw them working on a Tower by me a couple of weeks ago, and someone spotted LTE in Sanford a couple of days ago, so I really hope that those towers are complete, and that the switch turns on soon!!!!

I feel your pain... in most of the city I don't really use much data because of how slow it is. Usually I end up frustrated and just put my phone down.

I have faith in Sprint, hopefully in a few months this will be a distant memory.

  11. Yeah.. 3G and Voice in Lake Mary are horrendous at the moment. Hopefully that tower will fix it. Its so close in all the surrounding areas that I HOPE it comes soon because man its boggggggged down at the moment

Hang in there! I used to feel your pain when I was close to the FL Mall area with horrible 3G speeds. Lately, I've been seeing 1mb down at a minimum with like 1.5 as a max and it has made life a little better.

Still was hoping to see some LTE love more in the City of Orlando, but who knows when that starts becoming more of a reality in terms of exact time.

  12. It's hard to make direct comparisons between devices. I do agree the EVO 4G radios aren't the greatest but I haven't noticed that on 3G. You may have connected to a different sector accounting for the speed difference. Glad they gave you a GS3 though!

    Makes sense.

I loved most things about my EVO, outside of the connection issues. I have a week or two before i need to send either back so ill be testing out the GS3, if it does in fact work better ill have to send my EVO back.

Sometimes Sprint really impresses me with taking care of customers, they listened to the complaint and actually offered a reasonable solution.

  13. I contacted Sprint recently to state the trouble I had connecting to 4G in 4G markets with my EVOLTE, they were nice enough to send me a replacement GS3 to use.

That said, last night, before I received the GS3 I did a 3g speed test in my house. Like usual, I was at like .45mbps DL and .3mbps UL.

I just did it in the exact same spot with the GS3, and the speeds were 1.5mbps DL and .6mbps UL.

Could it be possible the EVOLTE radios are that bad? or could it simply mean my EVOLTE just had bad radios? I am blown back at the difference.

  14. Yesterday I flashsed the new modem that is out for the s3 and now my network type is back to evdo Rev a:8 as opposed to the erphd that I had. Does anyone know what to make of this? Tia

Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

I had that happen to me a week or two ago, seems like within a day it went back to normal reading eHRPD...

I would also make sure you're network type is set to LTE/CDMA as if that is set to CDMA only it will read EVDO Rev. A

  15. Hey guys I caught LTE outside of the UCF Library today 1/28/2013, and it needs to get on Sensorly. If anybody is ever around the center area of UCF campus, keep your Sensorly Maps running!!!

If no one else does, I live close enough to hit that up this weekend... My phone has yet to see any LTE in Orlando, would be nice to "pop" that cherry.
