  1. I doubt it, especially for optimum they don't service the entire NYC area. I believe it would be too much of a hassle to put 2 cable companies in one market to take care of the overhaul. I would think since Verizon has a footprint in all of NYC then it would be best to just hire one company to provide the backhaul. Cablevision's network is fiber up to the drop, from the drop on its coax; unless you purchase the pricey 101mbps service.

In NYC it is probably the major cable companies in many places. My understanding is that Optimum's network is fiber to the towers outside but they run a coaxial cable into your modem. I think the only places in Optimum service areas that aren't fiber are "last mike" folks that live on the edge of their service area.

  2. We had a tech trainer who had stated that some of these companies are not in a hurry to provide the backhaul site due to being in direct competition with Sprint. I believe in NY the company in charge of the backhauls is Verizon.

Yea this is the same thing I said and thought. I mean it does make sense that the back haul would take more time since it is dependent from Sprint. But Sprint should try and speed the back hauls, calling the companies early and letting them know ahead of schedules. But I don't really know so that's just my opinion.

  3. Really? I mean I'm sure that in my area 3g has enhanced due to NV upgrades. However, LTE is at a slow pace; my understanding is that in the NY market this is due to the overhaul.

Backhaul is actually ahead in most markets now. It's mainly the OEMs and supply shortages that are holding back NV. Permitting will always be a pain in big cities like NYC and the like.

Permitting + Slow Oems & Contractors = snails pace.

But it should be speeding up in the next couple of months as everyone gets their shites together.

  4. Yea NV can be done pretty quickly, the only issue is LTE. The backhaul can take some time, I believe this is why I don't have LTE.

I would say the towers yes, but the backhaul is probably done way before. Unless that can also be done in less than a week that would be pretty amazing.

  5. Yep, these are issues that are being caused by NV; according to our internal communications.

yes. where i work used to have good speed in terms of 3g and 1X reception, but for the last week, i get one or two bars and the phone keeps on toggling back and forth to different towers and dropping 3g signals.

  6. I've delt with quite a few customers who are having service issues due to NV, so Flushing is being worked on.

They told me that some towers in Flushing are getting LTE soon this month also! I'm glad to see Queens getting LTE soon

  7. Last time I checked Network Vision is being deployed in Brooklyn, but little to no LTE in that borough. I understand Manhattan might be going slow due to some unforseen variables, I do love the fact that at least the foundation to LTE(NV) is being deployed I've seen some improvements in my 3G service.

I need Brooklyn to catch up fast, near my college I always have unusable speeds. I rather have LTE in Brooklyn that Bronx cause if I am in Bronx I am home and on Wi Fi.

Like Robert stated in earlier in his post it makes sense that Manhattan is late on LTE they have a huge amount of towers and imagine for the tech guys getting around Manhattan it must really not be so productive. The traffic, the people and all the complications. I am actually happy at the progress, just that in certain places it needs to speed up.

  8. As an employee of Sprint and a New Yorker is killing me that the Bronx seems to be getting all the LTE love. Last time I checked Where I live(Manhattan) there's only like 3 LTE sites up and running. I did notice Flushing is getting some Network Vision love this month, Manhattan has been getting Network Vision but no LTE. In some way I'm glad that the Bronx is getting it first, I'm traumatized with the way NV was handled in Chicago so many customers I had to talk of the ledge due to these hand off issues. For now I'll be using my SG3 alongside my TriFi for some great WiMAX speeds.
