  1. Just saw a blue pickup truck driving out of

    5229 Gunn Highway, Tampa

I was driving on fumes and didn't have my glasses on to see if anything was going on. I know the site is marked as owned by the water district so it could have been unrelated. It's also an internal flagpole mono tower so its hard to ever see if there is anything ever going on here. Theres a very tall tower that just had a bunch of trees cleared recently a stones throw away, I'd think they would upgrade that tower first but who knows.

  2. Who do we have on this thread that doesn't live in St. Pete or Brandon lol? Got a lot of you guys out there finding stuff left and right but i'm surprised nothing has lit up in the general Tampa area yet.

I've got Citrus Park and Carrolwood covered. I also take 275(from Gunn Hwy) to I4 to 75 down to Brandon Blvd everyday to work so I've got a lot of turf covered.

  3. Hi everyone,

Sorry about the slow updates today. Sometimes we have to do a little maintenance and this one took longer than planned. When that happens new data received doesn't get added to the maps and when we start processing the backlog of data, the servers get a little overwhelmed and have trouble receiving new data. Once the backlog is processed and queued for redraw, your phones can send easily again.

From what I see at this time :

    • the backlog of received data has been processed
    • most of the backlog of data has been drawn but zooms 13 & 14 are still late to the party (approximately the middle of the zoom range), I expect they'll be up to date in about 6 hours at most
    • phones are able to send the data without running into errors

Zooming in/out is a good tip because we don't update all zoom levels at the same time (or even areas within the zoom level) : there is some optimisation going on behind the scenes. The more you zoom, the more often it gets updated.

Let me know if you see anything missing tomorrow.

    Thanks

PS: Thanks to Rick for tipping me about this thread

Thanks a bunch for dropping by with that information. -Rick

  4. I stopped by a few sites in Citrus Park Today.

Corner of Gunn and Dale Mabry: Nothing to report.

Stopped by a monopole on Gunn Hwy. Since all these antennas are hidden inside I can't say much.

[First 2 photos] Sheldon between hillsborough and Waters. Looks like there may be a Mounting bracket up but it might be old.

[second 2 Photos]Tower behind Citrus Park Mall, nothing going on. I did see one of the panels said metro Pcs, I'm assuming that's the lower set of antenna.

Really not looking like citrus park is going to be an early rollout.

  5. Guys... Some interesting news. I picked up LTE on SR56, several miles East of Bruce B Downs. I cannot imagine that this could be from the same Land O Lakes tower I mapped earlier. I will do a drive later to see if there may be another tower live over in Wesley Chapel somewhere. The connection seemed to weaken as I traveled West towards the Wiregrass Mall.

Also, I do have a Galaxy SIII, but I'm often having to toggle airplane mode or mobile data to get LTE at the fringes of a tower's area. I did not do thi this morning. 4G just lit up all on it's own. More to come... :)

It's the same tower. That thing is kicking out an extremely strong signal.

  6. My wife has an iPhone 5, and IT has a much harder time connecting to LTE. It seems like the iPhone 5 needs to be much closer to the tower than I do with my GS3.

Yeah,iPhone works a bit differently than other phones when I comes to signals. It won't display LTE or 3G for that matter if its not getting fast enough speeds to support the title, even if it is using the lte or 3G network.
