Without a doubt amongst the iPhone5, EVO LTE, and SIII, the iPhone5 is the winner. I posted in the iOS forum regarding this. The external antenna is very well designed in comparison to the internal ones on the android phones.
That's interesting. At my house, my GSIII can get 2.5-7 mbps dl on LTE with a typical RSRP of -110 to -116. I can't even get an LTE signal on my wife's iPhone 5 from the same spot. She can get a signal on some areas of our property, so I'll take both phones there and compare them. I haven't compared 3G. Just my personal experience.

Here in the South Bay (San Jose), I consistently get 12+ Mbps on my Tri-Fi in LTE areas (coverage is just rolling out and still limited). In fact, I have received 10+ Mbps on WiMax here with Tri-Fi as well, although that is more typically 4-5 Mbps. EVDO performance, OTOH, is pitiful with around 100-200 kbps download on a good day.
Thanks for the info. If you have a Sprint phone, how does the EVDO on it in your area compare to the TriFi?
-
Nothing too impressive. about 1 MB down
I'm sure it'll improve as the market area builds out. I'm considering getting the TriFi hotspot but would like confirmation of it's performance before I get one. I've had a mixed bag of experience with Sierra Wireless.
Thanks for the response. Give a shout out if you get an uptick in speeds.

I have been getting LTE on my TriFi Hotspot in the Miramar, Florida area (Broward County)
How is the LTE performance on your TriFi Hotspot?

They are now out of supplies.

I live in Garland and work in Allen so my commute covers a lot of ground. In my 17 mile commute I'm on lte 90% of the time. , except the dead zone (still think my work is blocking signal somehow).
Sent via LTE from my Evo LTE s-offed by an overweight panda.
So stop working! Just kidding!
My experience in Collin County is very similar to yours. Coverage has improved consistantly over the last 2 weeks. I'm getting Lte where I never got Wimax and got only poor 3G speeds. Here's hoping that it just gets better.

I have a question for those who are connecting to LTE now; how's the signal handoff and throughput?
In my area I get 2-30 mbps down and .2-5 mbps up. Ping is 40-300 ms. Last fall my 200 kbps average dl bumped up to 600 kbps with occasional spikes to 1.4 mbps. My wife got an Iphone 5 a couple of months ago and it gets and holds LTE well. Handoffs are smooth and has not seemed to need to toggle. It will not get LTE at my house though and I've never been able to get Wimax here either (150 yards away but not here). I got a GSIII on Black Friday and was susprised to get a weak LTE signal in my house 2.5-6.5 mbps dl. The signal is not stable. It will go 3G/LTE and back but stays LTE most of the time. I can toggle it to LTE, but generally don't have to. I live in a mildly hilly terrain and yesterday I climbed up on the roof (I know, it's slightly obsessive, but I had to know) and got a stable signal and dl of 7-9 mbps. The den to roof switch changed the RSRP from average -114 to -107.
I know that's a longer answer that you asked for, but I wanted to share my experience with everyone.

Speaking of multi-view...
Is there a way to add apps to the multi-view side bar, or are we limited to just the ones Samsung has put there? I see the EDIT button. But only allows me to remove the ones there, not add any new apps.
I don't really need the list of apps there used in tandem with each other, but rather those apps in tandem with apps not shown.

Robert,
Here is an article about it. http://www.phonedog.com/2012/11/26/after-one-month-i-decided-to-root-the-galaxy-note-ii/
A couple of links there.

Make sure you get something with the g block support. If you have a broadband connection at home it is easier to just get a wifi router though.
Sent from a little old Note 2
Sprint Overdrive is my "broadband". No DSL, no cable internet, but other options are slowing getting better. Maybe next year.

Here's my install currently only one indoor antenna. Took my signal level on my Gnex from best -93dB to -75dB, and worst -120dB to -93dB.
Parts list:
805045 - Wilson Electronics dual band 800/1900 65dB Amplifier
304411 - Wilson Electronics dual band yagi
301121 - Wilson Electronics dual band ceiling mount Omni
952320 - 20Ft LMR-400
952350 - 50Ft LMR-400
P8AX09 - Citel Gas discharge surge suppressor(I had these on hand, can be substituted with Wilson PN 859902)
In the picture of the amplifier it is not yet grounded. I cannot stress how important it is to properly ground the surge suppressor.
How is your setup working for you? Does it help voice calls as well as data? Can you give an overall cost guesstimate?
My fledgling LTE signal needs some help in the house and I'm running out of aluminum foil.

Man, I'd be all over the GN2. Night and Day difference. ;-) There will be a price drop soon.
BB has had 2 $100 one day sales on the GS 3 in the last few weeks. A store mgr. (for what it's worth) told me they would do the same with the GN 2 in the not too distant future. Probably when enough of the 5" 1080p phones get to market or the GS 4 is announced they'll have a special. I've got 60 days to make that happen
-
I just ordered a GS 3 online at Best Buy. People at the store told me the GS 3 would only be available in stores for $48, but it was online as well today. The usual 30 day return policy has been extended to Jan 24, '13, so I've got 60 days to find a great deal on the GN 2 before I decide to keep the GS 3. No lines for me, I'm a happy camper!

I can't speak on battery life just yet as I'm haven't run through a normal day yet of not setting things up like I like them. I still have some house cleaning to do on stupid apks that I don't want. Might take me a bit to dig through the Sammy ones though, but that's later.
I have noticed it does take a bit longer to switch from wifi to 3G than I am used to. It takes it a minute or two to drop and hand off. Questioning the data on this thing in a "crowded" area, the phone was really unusable all day yesterday at work, but that could just be a tower thing but I've never had it that bad on the Evo LTE or even the Epic 4G. I have some further testing to do of course.
I don't want to jump to any negative conclusions just yet and maybe I'm just WAY too subjective to radio performance after the EVO LTE biting me. But so far I think I'm keeping it.
Daily reports please! Thanks.

There is no mail in rebate on the S 3. Although there is one for the nexus and victory. I work for Sprint.
Thanks for the correction!

How likely is it that Best Buy will price match Sam's Club? Also, how hectic does it get in Best Buy on Black Friday evenings?
I don't think BB will match a members club. I talked to a BB mgr tonight in Dallas and asked him about Black Friday crowds. He said by midnight Thursday they will be lined up around the block. i said "so, 2-3 hundred"? He said over 1000!
He also thought they might have the GN 2 on a 1 day sale (in the near future) like they have had on the GS 3 recently.
Your mileage may vary.

Actually Sprint stores are offering the GS 3 for $49.99 for upgrades and new lines of service on black Friday.
i think Sprint is offering the GS 3 for $99.99 on BF with a $50.00 mail in rebate. I know it's the same, but I hate mail in rebates and you pay sales taxes on the higher amount. On the other hand I'm looking for any other way to avoid BF lines at BB.

Picked up one today already I have till Friday to decide on it or the S3. Leaning very hard towards the Note 2. Love it so far!!! Going to run it through some signal testing tomorrow.
You're not able to compare LTE are you?
-
I have seen a Sprint Lebron James Galaxy Note 2 commercial quite a few times. It is literally one of the most worthless commercials I have ever seen. You don't even know what is being advertised.
I think their idea was when he answered a phone call the phone looks "normal" in his big basketball hands.

Best Buy Rewards says they went live with the $48 price at 11:00 am EST today (Monday) for "Silver Rewards" members. On-line only.
Yeah, I got that too. After logging in I couldn't get it to show the $48 price, so I'll wait till Fri. That should push my return window to nearly Christmas eve. The later the better.
-
Just an FYI. In case you fellas want you new GS3 instantly on Black Friday.
Walmart - $129 and you recieve a $100 girft card with it making the phone essentially $29
Best Buy - $48.88
Sams Club - $0.97 (need to be a member of course)
i plan to purchase online from sprint to avoid the black friday madness
I'll get the GS 3 Fri from Best Buy. That will give me a good deal now and a 30 day return window in case a retailer puts some Christmas magic on the GN 2.

It's the RF output numbers from the FCC docs. Of course if you've ever dealt with wireless, power isn't everything.
Help me understand these numbers better. Do they mostly pertain to "send" strength or do they also apply to the phone's ability to receive the signal?
-
I couldn't be happier with the Note 2 but the GS3 is a great phone too. To be honest I don't think its worth 6x times more than a GS 3 for $50. You could get the S3, media dock, another battery, 100 nfc tags, mobile dock and more for the same price.
I think the new media dock only works with the GN 2 and I wanted to get one of those. Your point is well taken though, and I'm going to get the GS 3 on Black Friday. I need a new phone and can't pass up that price. I will look for Robert's report from his Thanksgiving tests and may return the GS 3 for the GN 2 if it seems warranted.
-
Hope Robert can let me know how the Note 2 LTE signal numbers and how well it hangs on to it compared to the S3 before Black Friday Sent from my EVO sometimes-LTE
i want the GN 2 also, but I'm in a marginal coverage area and LTE performance is important to me. i thought the GN 2 had an advantage there. It's going to be hard not to pull the trigger on the GS 3 on Black Friday.
(triggers are a little known accessory for the GS 3)
-
Was looking at some RF numbers on the Note 2 and various devices and the LTE 1900 dbm looked troubling. I know you can't go by just that but it was rather odd.
Are you saying the Note 2 might be better or worse than the GS 3. Most of the comments on this site so far have indicated improved performance on LTE for the Note 2.

North Arlington is quite hilly and I've found that to affect Sprint LTE speeds. Compare speed tests at the same locations at different times. Of course, network traffic volume at different times can also have an effect.
