  1. I'm almost smack in the middle of the tower on Norton road and another off of broad st. So I'm not sure which I'm actually on. Hopefully it gets better. Don't want to have to take my phone in.

Sprint is a nightmare for me, and had been for the past year or maybe two.

I've had a lot of data issues with Sprint in the past year, but hopefully these network upgrades will fix all that!

  2. I'm dying. I can't even use my phone for voice today. No signal anywhere near my house, within like 2 miles. This is becoming a consistent problem and the reps keep telling me that everything is checking back ok, and that there is likely work being done on the towers near me, but can't check for sure.

Can any of you see if there is work around the west broad street and Norton road intersection?

I'm working from home today near Galloway and Hall road and have no voice problems (iPhone 5). But perhaps I'm hitting a different tower from where I am?

  3. This has probably been explained countless times, but could one of you point me to, or answer how lte towers usually come online in a market? For example, if they complete a tower, will they turn it on before they complete the entire rollout of a city or will they wait and launch the entire new network for a city in one fell swoop? Seems like both would have advantages and disadvantages, but I'm just curious what other areas have experienced... And more curious because I'm close to one of these towers where new cabinets have been spotted!

  4. I'm around the 270 and West Broad St and my 3g speeds are better now also 1.5 mb consistently

I'll do a test when I get home tonight and see how the speeds look. That Norton Road tower is likely the tower that I use as my home is at Galloway and Hall roads.

No change this morning on the way into work - I even did the speed test within sight range of the tower on Norton, but I got 0.40 down and 0.07 up. Admittedly, that's a little better than before, I suppose.

  5. The new tower that went up there is for Verizon. Sprint has a tower caddy corner right behind the storage place and across from Walmart, its kind of hard to spot since its mixed in with the power lines. I usually get pretty good service there depending on the time of day, I'm sure it all depends on the network congestion.

Gotcha - I'm no expert by any means at identifying who's tower is who's, but it did cross my mind that the tower probably wasn't Sprint when service didn't change for me.

  6. I drive down to Grove city every weekend to work at Sprint, and it's safe to say that the service is absolute crap. It gets better once you get to georgesville and stringtown, but the area is quite horrible at times. I can't stream anything while in the car...pretty unbearable.

Yep - I thought that the new tower that went up at Georgesville Rd exit on the west side of the interstate would help, but no such luck!

  7. I am loving what I'm hearing here... I am near 270 and Broad in the Galloway area and didn't notice any speed differences this weekend, but I was also not around the area much and when I am at home, I'm on WiFi. I just did a speedtest without wifi and got 0.08 Mbps down and 0.11 up, but I'm also downtown right now, which has never had great service anyways.

I'll do a test when I get home tonight and see how the speeds look. That Norton Road tower is likely the tower that I use as my home is at Galloway and Hall roads.

Awesome to see some movement around the west side!

Side note: does anyone drive the southwest leg of 270 regularly where all the construction is? I consistently have dropped calls as I travel west to east around the curve where 270 goes east, just before the route 64 exit. Has anyone experienced that? I have an iPhone 5.

    Thanks!

I assume you installed the update that was released a couple weeks ago? Mine works as well as my wife's 4S. It still is slow on 3G but that's just how it is in Columbus.

Yep, I'm on the latest version, but I'm also on the outskirts of town, so Sprint service isn't as good because of my location. But I still have issues downtown which used to be just fine on my nexus s.

  9. The only time I have many problems with any of it is when I'm inside buildings (like everyone else).

Outdoors and near windows it usually works pretty good.

Sprint just doesn't get that building penetration.

Just ran speedTest again in the 3G mode, all to the same host on Sunday morning at about 9:15AM which I should think would be a very slow time for network traffic. I am located within 1 mile of the tower.

    3G in my house at my desk w/ 2 bars - Ping = 283ms, Down = 84k, Up = 43k

    3G outdoors on my patio w/ 3 bars - Ping = 97ms, Down = 180k, Up = 58k

    4G in my house at my desk w/ 2 bars - Ping = 110ms, Down = 4998k, Up = 1471k

    4G outdoors on my patio w/ 3 bars - Ping = 111ms, Down = 5296k, Up = 1512k

4G isn't bad but if I upgrade my phone to an LTE device I will have to rely on the 3G for another year.

Going to be a tough choice. My Epic 4G (SPH-D700) is still working great and it still gets great support form the Developers, but like most people I want a new toy to play with.

Any word on upgrades in Ohio yet?

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 5 even though I knew LTE was not going to be available for a while. However, I got used to WiMAX and now have figured out just how slow Sprint's 3G can be. For instance, I just ran speedtest and got 804ms ping, .07 Mbps down and it didn't even register an upload speed. It takes about 15 min for a picture to send if it sends at all. Honestly, I'm not looking to stream high def movies or anything crazy like that, but sending a picture of the kids to the wife shouldn't be too unreasonable.

So I wasn't just interested in LTE but a little 3G love would be great. According to network.sprint.com, the tower that is about 500 yards from my house had a data speed upgrade in the last 6 months. Like I said I know LTE is a ways off but I'm hoping someone knows something is coming soon.

    Thanks!

I've been seeing horrible 3G speeds on my iPhone 5 - LTE couldn't come fast enough. However, it does look like there is a known Sprint network issue with the iPhone 5, as documented in this discussion thread at the sprint user community. Hopefully resolution of this ticket will see better 3G support. My wife's 4S works better on 3G than my 5!
