  1. Can the network handle that many new users at once? I can't imagine the majority of iPhone 5 sales going to verizon or att with sprints selling points. Everyone who wants unlimited data and a good price will probably no e to sprint. I sure hope that Sprint is ready.

  2. Things have gotten worse in Elgin. This morning speeds were really bad. Not even usable and now its kind of ok. I really have no idea why it fluctuates like this. I guess it can only get better. I hope sept 21 will be the day they flip on the new equipment.

  3. So for all my Chicago buddies on this site, how is the coverage and speeds on 3G in your personal experience? I'm porting my cousin over from T-Mobile to Sprint, but am concerned how the network is currently.

I checked the maps and he has a NV site a block from his apartment, but what about the rest of the city proper?

I'd wait until Chicago land is officially launched.

  4. I got some strange results today. I work near Gail Borden library in Elgin. I was getting great speeds this morning. 1.9D 07U with a 100ms ping. I was ecstatic after seeing Sprint press release today thinking that they hooked up the new backhaul. Then, around lunch time the speeds and ping deteriorated to the norm of what I’ve been getting the last 5-6 months of 0.2D 0.4U with a 280ms ping or worse. Now I’m about to leave and the speeds are spotty, sometimes good. Sometimes bad. Sometimes in between. I really do know what to make of this. I don’t know if I need to blame my phone for being crappy. I haven't upgraded my OG Epic and I’m waiting on the iPhone 5 announcement to make a decision. Or is it they are testing the towers near me to see what load they can handle?!? Or is the area overloaded and additional backhaul is needed?!?

I have no idea and want to know if anyone has any insight on the matter??

  5.

Once you pick up that signal and head over to noodles and company parking lot you will see a huge increase on the download, I posted a pic where it almost peaked at 38, but I don't imagine the signal being around to long as I'm hearing it's only testing. But I read somewhere that they should be done with about 50% of Chicagoland (when I mean Chicagoland, I am including suburbs) by the end of September. Also I called sprint and they told me they have finished all updates in Elgin and are moving east to Arlington Heights. So I'm praying 4g will be turned on and running in the Suburbs by months end or at least mid October!

I'm still not seeing the backhaul updates in Elgin. There was one day where it was amazing and that's it.That was about three weeks ago. I still have my og epic and og evo so maybe that has something to do with it.

  6. Calls are not dropping in Elgin. Calls usually drop at locations where they just start working on the towers and the areas where you transition from new equipment to old. Yeah it sucks, but it's not for long.

Waiting for the backhaul upgrade is a bitch. Still waiting out here.

  7. Actually, Apple is holding a special event on September 12, 2012. This is when they'll be announcing the new iPhone and possibly the rumored 7" iPad. If this will be anything like last years announcement, then the new iPhone will launch in October.

that event is still a rumor until we hear the official announcement.

  8. I have the feeling that sprint will loose many customers if they take too long on fixing these problems. I already have my wife begging me to to switch carriers because of all the problems. I've been telling her that the network will get allot better soon since I have this website to know what's going on, but what about all the regular users who don't go to sites like this?

Thanks, I've noticed that this thread has been spiraling downward into nothing but complaints. We know that Chicago has bad service right now, but there is a reason that Samsung has the gas pedal mashed to the floor on that market. Once backhaul catches up, Chicago should be looking sexy for coverage. Until then, please keep the conversation away from rants and pure negativity. As newspapercrane said, if you are having problems with your service, call sprint. Maybe you should consider asking to have your sprint account put on hold for a few months and go get a cheap prepaid phone. That will at least get voice services. You could still use your smartphone on WiFi...

I'm just making observations as the upgrades continue and of course venting some frustration.

Sprint is having tremendous problems in Elgin on some towers. I thought I'd voice what I've been experiencing to see if any other members have any insight on probable causes.

I'm also seeing the worst problems after 4pm. So maybe the problem is not just at the towers.

  10. I know the network is kind of crappy while we wait for nv upgrades to be completed but last couple of days have been horrendous in Elgin. Calls not coming through or going out. Same for texts. Also, no data connection or extremely slow. Around the river by the library is where I see most of the problems.

Any idea what's going on I thought the equipment on the towers were upgraded already and we where just waiting on back haul upgrades?!?

  11. So far in Elgin. I've only noticed the cell site at Judson college to have low ping and high speeds. This was when i was driving thru on the weekend. The same one I think QBKing might have briefly connected to LTE and then report on his video.

Otherwise, Elgin towers near the center of the city are still with no updated backhaul

  12. Ran a test today on my og epic running cm9rc1

This outside on the corner of Rt31 and wing park street. Results typical of Elgin. I haven't found a site yet to have backhaul updated.

This is a test I ran inside the Five Guys on Meacham rd in Schaumburg. This is what I used to get in Elgin prior to nv upgrades.

    The waiting is just agonizing!

  13. Still waiting for the updates in Elgin. I know the updated the towers but the backhauls have yet to be updated. My contract is up and I'm just waiting for iphone 5 and the results of nv before I decide to stay or jump elsewhere.
