  1. Possibly the actual rate is $0.0003 per kilobyte, which makes a little more sense. Wouldnt be the first time a rep can not understand decimal placement. Anyone remember that Verizon issue from several years back? The caller recorded the convo and it was pretty funny. "But sir, there is no such thing as 3 hundredths of a cent!"

    That's probably what happened.

Now, if it were 3 cents per mb, wouldn't all of you roamers be willing to pay that? That would be 30 dollars for an additional 1gb of roaming data. Sprint and USCC could make some additional revenue and everybody wins.

  2. So yesterday I called Sprint customer service and asked if they would remove my 300mb roaming data cap since I am going to a USCC area this weekend and Sprint coverage is not good.

They said I have already reached my limit and they would remove my limit if that's what I wanted.

They warned me that it would be 3 cents for every kilobyte over the 300mb limit. I told them no thanks.

That would be 90 dollars for an additional 300mb. Holy cow!

  3. Just returned home from my annual camping week at Lake Billy Chinook in central Oregon. Service was so much better this year than previous years. The USCC 3G EVDO worked great. I streamed Spotify on the boat until my 300 MB roaming limit was reached. To get it to work I had to set my phone to only use the 850 cell CDMA band in the hidden service menu. The phone kept finding 1x sprint service that was only good for talk and text which was an improvement from last year but still not good enough to listen to Spotify. Sprint LTE even worked great when out of the canyon. I think a single small cell with band 41 wireless backbone and Sprint could be the king of Lake Billy Chinook.

  4. This pseudo native evdo means what exactly? When I'm connected to US Cellular and on their EV-DO, is that counting as roaming data or native data?

If it was pseudo native then it would not count against your roaming data allotment. However it is not pseudo native.

  5. I think they're saying that USCC might be angling toward eventually being bought out, but they would have no leverage in any related negotiation if they allow potential suitors full roaming access on a pseudo-native basis.

Okay, I agree with your point about the buyout scenario but they better hope that buyout comes before Verizon steals all their customers. They will have very little leverage if they have very few subs. Their network and spectrum assets will still be worth something I guess.

  6. USCC doesn't see themselves as a national carrier. They see themselves as regional carrier, albeit a large one. If a customer spends enough time outside their footprint that it's a problem, they have no problems telling you to find another carrier. I'm not sure where you think they're bleeding customers. They only had a churn of 1.5% and made a 161 million profit last quarter. They don't seem to be hurting.

I see Verizon continuing to expand into USCC territory as they have been doing for years. I see it all over central and southern Oregon. As this continues, Verizon is going to be the new carrier in these small towns and USCC customers are likely to join Verizon for better service in the cities. The only way that USCC will be able to compete is to team up with a Sprint or a T-Mobile who has the LTE in the cities all over the country.

  7. The Carlson's aren't that stupid. Why would they undermine their own business like that? I don't see the incentive from a leverage point of view. If Sprint or T-Mobile would be interested in buying them out, I think they'd listen at this point, but their motivation has always seemed to be control over their own network experience. US Cellular still has higher ARPU than anyone else at this point, so their model still works.

You're not looking at the big picture and maybe the Carlson's aren't either.

  8. And adding on to that, US Cellular has little commercial incentive to offer pseudo native roaming. Since Sprint and USCC overlap a lot, allowing unlimited roaming would open up the risk of losing a lot of customers to Sprint. Sprint is a true national carrier and is often cheaper.

I think there is commercial incentive for USCC. USCC has been losing customers to Verizon and AT&T for some time now because people want that nationwide LTE coverage. If USCC and Sprint teamed up to provide pseudo native LTE to each other, USCC customers would have no reason to switch to Verizon. They would be roaming on Sprint LTE when they go to visit their relatives in the big cities. They would have to create a contractual agreement between each other that prevents subscriber swapping but that could easily be done.

  9. No complaining at S4GRU. Consider yourself warned. The "f*** you Sprint" and "heads out of their ass" are unwarranted. You do not get to break the rules and talk like that here.

Sprint is not obligated to build out its network to suit your needs. That just may not be cost effective. The same goes for large roaming quotas. Sprint may not be able to afford the hundreds of dollars that you could rack up in roaming data charges. And even though you claim that you would pay per MB, would you be willing to pay, say, $.10/MB? Because that is in the range of what Sprint pays for roaming data.

If Sprint does not provide you with sufficient coverage, go right on over to VZW or AT&T. We do not care. The duopoly has paid hundreds of billions of dollars to buy up 30 years of wireless network deployment. You will pay their rates to support those acquisitions, and you will abide by their policies. Enough said.

I am not complaining, I am making a point. As I said, I am spending 45 dollars for 5gigs of data to use on a one week camping trip and that is not including the initial investment of the nexus 5 and the sim card. Sprint and USCC could team up to take my money but instead they are allowing the duopoly to rake in more cash. Sprint is the best option for me 95 percent of the year but they could very easily and cost effectively make it even better. They want that ARPU to go up and that would be an easy way to do it. If my sprint bill was 50 bucks higher for the month of camping and roaming I would be happy with it. Better than giving my 50 bucks to AT&T for that month.

  10. You would still be subject to your roaming limits of 100 megs or whatever it is for your plan. it is not shown as native on your device. Never the less, this is still a huge deal.

If that 100 Meg limit is still in place then all I have to say is f*** you Sprint. Either build out your coverage or allow your customers to roam. I would even be willing to pay per mb for the data roaming. He'll, I'm paying 200 dollars for a used Nexus five, 7 dollars for a straight talk sim card, and 45 dollars for 5gigs of straight talk AT&T data. Sprint and USCC could have my money if they would get their heads out of their ass.

  11. USCC roaming... Oh my God I am so excited right now. I am leaving for a week of camping at a lake in central Oregon this weekend and USCC works better there than Verizon and almost as good as AT&T. I just bought a used Nexus 5 so I could throw a Straight Talk AT&T sim card in it and use it as a hot spot at the lake. Now I don't need it. Thank you Sprint and USCC!

  12. I don't think you get the micro SD card anymore unless I missed it in the new promo details. And yes, activate your device first. They'll need your IMEI or ESN or whatever number they asked for (at least for the June Promo), so I think they might actually check if it's an activated device.

I would rather have the leather back. You can pick up a 32 gb micro card on Amazon for less than 20 bucks.

  13. Does anyone have any update on who US Cellular is in negotiations with for an LTE roaming deal. It's seems like a year ago that the news article came out saying that Sprint and US Cellular were performing network testing. Then not too long after that article it was reported that US Cellular was in negotiations with an undisclosed national carrier for an LTE roaming deal. Also, I have observed that most US Cellular handsets that have been released since then have been identical to the sprint models with band 26 and 41.

If they are in negotiations, what would be the hold up? Could it be MFBI deployment that they are waiting on?

  14. So far, only the international EU version of the LG G4 (model H815) even has the ability to unlock the bootloader, which is the first step to gaining root. They also have TWRP support for their version of the phone as well, so they can just flash supersu and they have root already. Nobody else is close, as LG only officially released the method to unlock the bootloader for the EU international version.

    Read here:

    http://www.xda-developers.com/no-root-is-not-coming-to-the-lg-g4-just-yet/

There is a bounty thread on XDA for finding a safe method for unlocking and rooting the Verizon/AT&T variants since those are usually the two hardest versions to achieve full bootloader unlock and root. Them (AT&T/Verizon) getting it may also mean us (Sprint) getting it since they should be similar, if not easier on Sprint's side. If you want to donate money or help out yourself, or even if you just want to track the status of it, the XDA thread is here:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/bounty-root-method-exploit-bootloader-t3130989

Yeah, I have been following that thread daily.

  15. I finally received my free SD Card and extra battery after two weeks. I honestly don't know when I'll need the extra battery as I'm one of the customers happy with the current battery life, but it's definitely nice to know I have a spare. Definitely sign up for the promo if you haven't already.

I got my battery and card yesterday. Makes me even more pleased with my decision to pass on the S6.

And as for RF performance, it seems I am connected to band 41 a lot more than I was with my G2.

Another great thing about this phone is the performance of the GPS radio. I use my smartphones as GPS units to navigate through the Oregon back country on my dual sport motorcycle. On my previous phones, S3 and G2, I would occasionally lose GPS signal. This last weekend I went on a 3 day ride and not once did the G4 lose GPS signal.

  16. Honestly, the phone is a beautiful piece of hardware. I think it's problems were software related. The screen seemed to use up a lot of power when on. Then with the screen off the system software was just eating up the battery. Nothing I did made any difference. I did factory resets twice to see if something I installed was culprit.

With some software engineering to get power consumption down, it would be a spectacular phone.

I was having issues with battery life on my G4 but they were caused by apps that I had installed. I installed Greenify and the battery drain problem went away. The cool thing about the LG operating system is Greenify doesn't require root because LG gives the option to add Greenify as a system service.

  17. Not quite that easy. I'd have to give up the freebie microsd card from LG and the $100 gift card from best buy. Plus note is more expensive. Tough choice. 9 more days to decide.

    Stick with the G4.

  18. Thanks for that info. I'm definitely leaning towards the app that I uninstalled being the cause of the issue. You didn't uninstall any preloaded apps did you? I just wish I remember exactly what app(s) I touched. I don't want to factory reset my phone because I already installed all my apps and did a bunch of customizations, but it might have to come to that if I can't figure out what I did.

I've haven't uninstalled anything yet. I'm waiting for root to become available.
