  1. Well, I'm sure glad to see this, because it might explain why Sprint has been so completely dysfunctional for the past few days. I just drove to Orlando & back yesterday and today along the Turnpike, and was seeing 40-60kbps down and 400-600kbps up most of the way (not a typo). Yeah, after it became obvious that I couldn't even sustain a useful connection to Pandora, I spent the rest of the trip (with wimax and wi-fi disabled to prevent thrashing) running Speedtest over and over all the way home.

I'd say about 50-60% of the tests were about 200-250kbps down and 400-600kbps up, about 30% were 40-60kbps down and 400-600kbps up, about 10% (mostly Palm Beach county) failed at some point, and 4 or 5 spots threw me freakishly-fast EVDO results out of (seemingly) nowhere... like, 800-1500kbps down, and similar up (in fact, they were the only instance where uploads weren't 3-10 times faster than downloads). For anyone who's curious, the "freakishly-fast" spots were approximately:

West Palm Beach near Southern Blvd (on Tpk)

Somewhere around northern Boca (on Tpk)

Eastern Coral Springs (several miles outside the current 4G wimax footprint), on Sawgrass

Near Oakland Park Blvd on Sawgrass

Just south of Sunrise Blvd. on Sawgrass, heading into the big interchange.

Near Royal Palm Blvd. on 75 east of Weston.

Pembroke Pines, however, seems to be almost as bad of a mess tonight as Palm Beach County was. Wimax works flawlessly in my driveway and inside my house, but 3G can barely even finish Speedtest half the time, and is limping along at 40-60 down/400-600 up the rest of the time (I'm by the mall, in solid 4G wimax territory).

I didn't get aggressive about speedtest until tonight, but for a real-world example from yesterday, I bought two songs from Amazon mp3 shortly after getting on the Turnpike from Sawgrass. I was north of Port St. Lucie -- almost an hour later -- before they finished downloading... and I was actively "nursing them along" and cracking the whip behind Amazon to keep it trying over and over the whole time.

The local dysfunctionality of Sprint in South Florida was even more painfully obvious compared to how well Sprint worked once I was north of Kissimmee -- I had 4G (wimax) even in areas that looked about as urban as US-27 near I-75.

I was starting to get seriously worried before I saw this thread, and was starting to think that Sprint had just abandoned us to entropy -- not wanting to spend any money fixing something they were going to rip out and replace in a couple of months, and leaving their data network here to progressively deteriorate and fall apart in the meantime.

Awesome. Thank you for this post! Makes me feel somewhat better. I just hope the Orlando Market NV/LTE is happening soon, I live in the central Florida area (Polk County) and can't even use speed test without it saying "Network Error", "Communication Failed". It didn't used to be like this up until a year ago, a lovely theme park named Legoland moved in and there is a Sprint tower on their property that is just horrendous! I've heard different things about the tower and what they're supposedly going to do with it but nothing as of yet! Please NV help us! Lol.

Yup. But the first article is delayed. It will either be tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Pretty close. I'm starting a schedule update series for each market that I have a schedule for. First article posts in the morning.

Will this just be posted on the wall?

If you aren't tied to needing WiMax, I would go for it. Providing, of course, the SGS3 meets all your needs otherwise.

    Robert

Well no Wimax in Winter Haven, FL lol. Well hope I can sell my E4GT tor a decent amount.

Outstanding! You must know about the Orlando Market! Exciting! lol. So does this mean I should get the SG3? lol

  6. I can see them all. Looks like they are starting right on time. Where is this specific site? I would like to compare it to the schedule. Dothose trucks say Goff Wireless?

Hey Robert, how closely should the Orlando Market follow?

  7.

You can certainly tell when you turn on Super IPS+ mode. But I rarely use it on my Prime. For the most part it sits on good ole IPS+ and at 50% brightness and the screen still looks great. If anything I would just turn up the brightness a little bit as opposed to turning on Super IPS mode

Well the TF300 only has IPS not IPS+. Also would the Prime see more ROM/dev support than the TF300?

Well hell ASUS might be producing the Google Tablet and it might be out this summer? Hmmm.....

I have the Prime and I love it. Though I've never called it the "Tranny" lol, I unlocked the bootloader, rooted it and put a pretty 'stock' rom on it. And have have zero problems with it since I've owned it.

I've never seen the low wifi or gps issues that some are reporting. Also that first report you listed was for the original Transformer TF101, and not the Transformer Prime, which is the TF201. Comparing my Prime and the wife's new iPad, our wifi signal was pretty much on par with each other in every part of the house.

The Transformer Pad 300 was just released, and it has similar specs to the Prime, minus the Super IPS+ display, and slightly lower clock speed, but still has the Tegra 3 quad. They also got rid of the alum casing, and replaced it with plastic. Which should help with GPS/WiFi signals. Price is @ $399 brand new.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 2 is also priced at $399, but like cletus mentioned its really just a refresh of the original 10.1, a friend of mine/coworker bring his original 10.1 in, and its a pretty solid tablet as well.

I have no experience with any other manufactures so I can't weigh in on those. But I think an ASUS or Samsung tablet would be a nice choice also

Yea I was definently looking into an ASUS tablet. I was just looking over the TF300 actually. Is there really a noticeable difference when it comes to IPS and IPS+? Or the brightness difference they have between the two? I will for sure be installing custom ROMS on it.

Yeah absolutely a tablet would be okay for you then. A tablet as it currently stands is really for consumption of media and not suited for production of media. For having around the house to watch Netflix on a bigger screen wherever you are it is cheaper than buying a second TV, etc. However, if you are just buying a tablet for this purpose then keep in mind a new Ipad is probably more than you REALLY need power wise so I would recommend a used ipad 2 or a comparably priced android tablet. The Kindle fire is unsuited for HD video watching (loaded DVDs, Netflix is compressed HD) and stutters occasionally so I do not recommend you consider that tablet.

Wonderful! Thanks! However I think I would rather have an Android tablet... Any suggestions on one of those?

  10. Thanks for all the replies guys! I do have a desktop at my home and really the only thing I NEED it for is Microsoft office, torrents, music, DVD editing/burning, internet browsing etc... oh also rooting and flashing with my ET4G! So what would be a good tablet to look into. Wifi only would be just fine

  11. As the title states... Are tablets worth the money? For instance at this moment I am out of a laptop due to a hardware issue and am looking into to buying a new one. However, I'm also interested in a tablet, (not sure which one though) my question is. Can a tablet replace a laptop? I love the portability idea of a tablet, but can it function as a laptop? I use my laptop for word documents, music, internet browsing, the basics really other than rooting and using ODIN for my phones. Any input would be awesome! Thanks!

You are correct. Better voice and 1x penetration with 800 CDMA in NV deployments in 2012 and 1st half of 2013. Second half of 2013 NV deployments will have 800 LTE and then they will start adding it to existing NV sites.

Thanks!! So I'll be waiting on 800mhz LTE for another year or more since I'm in the Orlando market huh?

Since you are in a relatively early NV market, I would definitely ride it out with Sprint. And since you are in a Non-WiMax area, probably not much harm for you to upgrade to a LTE device.

So being in a non wiimax area, you think I'm more LTE prone? Oh yes I definetly plan on getting an LTE device, maybe sgs3. If LTE comes here soon after. But I really need better service inside buildings. That's my main concern. As long as that's better along with NV and LTE I'm good to go!
